Vancouver Canucks fans riot

BU freak

What a bunch of sore losers. They actually booed the Stanley Cup when it was rolled out after Boston spanked them at home to win it all. Then they go out and riot, turning over cars and setting fires. Let's hope they NEVER win a Stanley Cup!

I don't begrudge a team just because they have horrible fans -- BU even has a few -- ;)

Latest news reports state that the riot was started and stirred up by anarchists using Canucks jerseys to hide themselves. You can't get a car to start burning without accelerants, so it wasn't just normal people. The people who were arrested for burning cars and doing the most damage were arrested in anarchist protest during the 2010 Winter Olympics. Many were armed with masks, goggles and gasoline.

these were real anarachists using the shiled of either a loss or Championship win to do damage. Don't blame Vancouver fans for the riot.

Yes, you are somewhat right. The riots did not entirely represent normal Vancouver residents, or Canucks fans. Vancouver is a very liberal city, similar to San Francisco, and is home to a large group of anarchists.
Here is one of many websites dedicated to organized anarchist activities (seems like an oxymoron)-
Vancouver Anarchists Online
There were public demonstrations last summer during the G20 Summit, and during the Vancouver Olympics, but police limited them and there was little violence. And there were even riots the last time the Canucks made it to a game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals and lost in 1994.

The post-Stanley Cup riots were apparently fueled by the anarchists, and were unexpected by the police. However, a large number of ordinary citizens and fans did get involved in the rioting and subsequent looting, so the anarchists can't be blamed for everything-

The Vancouver police chief showed gas masks that had been confiscated from some in the crowd. So who brings a gas mask to a hockey game?

I agree T! I was just in beautiful Vancouver and most residents were disgusted over the events and are chipping in to help those stores that were vandalized and looted. Vancouver is a very beautiful city and I would recommend anyone who has a chance to check it out.
