UWM 86 Bradley 74- stats

I did not see any of this game but come on we take 23 more shots only turn it over 13 times and we get beat by 12.

If anyone tries to tell any of us it is a fallicy that this team can not shoot the ball, that type of defense of this team is just completely wrong, this team can not shoot especially the 3 6-27 thats just embarrassing and 16-23 from the line is equally embarrassing. This team is incabable of winning any games by shooting from the 3 pt line but on the other than hand it can not win a game by going to the basket and getting the line for free points.

23 extra shots in a game and you get beat by 12 thats terrible.

Should I even get into this conversation again...?

Maniscalco, Roberts, and Wilson are also all playing too many minutes....

Taylor Brown and Darian Norris should both have more minutes than they did....maybe you tell DN to drive the ball more when his 3-pt shot isn't falling, but both deserve more time as does Thompson.

Once again, when is our leader going to realize we don't have the personnel to chuck from 3...:?: Not only do we not have the shooters, but we will get massacred on the glass unless BOTH Wilson and Brown are in....

As evident, our best lineup on the floor tonight was:

Brown (best rebounder we have if given the minutes)
Wilson (should be playing more inside the FT arc)
Dunson (best shooter we have)
Maniscalco (could be replaced by Norris)
McCain (the ONLY PG we have)

Even though MSU beat Norfolk St. (284), and Evansville beat NC A&T (202), and Indiana State beat DePauw (DIII), and Creighton beat Southern (336), and Wichita beat northern AZ (227)...all of them DROPPED in RPI!!

SIU loses to St. Mary's (21) and yet their RPI climbs.

Hmm....ISU is 11-0 and still not within the top 80 teams in RPI!

Bad year for scheduling in the Valley...only 3 Valley teams have SOS inside the top 70 (UE, BU, SIU),
it's pretty amazing the Valley isn't lower than 10th in conference RPI!!

Ok, can we finally accept we're not a good shooting team? Can we finally accept that shooting 25+ 3's a game isn't going to get it done with this group? I think we could win games if we were committed to going inside to Wilson, Brown, Collins, and Thompson and grinding games out defensively. Why do bad shooters get to continue to chuck 3's and our posts don't get a passing glance? We commended the staff for adjusting to our personnel 2 years ago, why won't they do it now? JL's stubborn, 'can do' attitude has made him successful at everything he's ever done, I hope his committment to a certain style of play isn't getting in the way of doing what's right for this group this year.

On a side note - I like Darian Norris a lot, but I think it might be time to go back to Dodie. We aren't going to beat anyone starting 3 midget guards, and Norris is struggling quite a bit with the perimeter shot. He'll be OK, but Dodie has earned it.

On a positive note, McCain continues to improve. Last night he looked for his shot a lot more, and I thought looked good doing it. He also can really rebound for a kid his size. We've allowed him to play through his mistakes, and I think are seeing some benefits. I wish we would take that same attitude with AT and TB.

Agreed! In pregame, JL was patting himself on the back for the development (some of) the freshmen (re guards) have shown because they were "thrown into the fire" Why can that not be applied to bigger players?

Our O may not be great, but we did score 74. That should be enough to win.

What those stats don't show is the 10+ missed shots from within 3 feet of the basket. Many missed layups and chip shots on offensive boards. There was a time in the 2nd half that BU missed 2 easy layups when down by 10 points, then 2 minutes later the deficit was cut to 6 points. Could of easily been tied shortly thereafter. BU makes half of those layups/chip shots and it's a win.

Who are we to decide who the best players in practice have been? Apparently, some of our guys are great practice players!

Right now I'd be happy if JL takes into consideration game time defensive effort and results. I'm sure SM looks great at practice considering who's guarding him, who he guards and there is no doubt he probably busts his tail off but having him guard Boyle last night was a huge mistake.

Him taking ANY game results into consideration would be a big step forward...

Practice may win guys playing time at BU, but nowhere in America does how you play in practice win games...Period!

So you scored 20 in practice, big deal...practice is a good thing for confidence building exercises, but scoring 20 in an actual game that counts means so much more.

You can run the most efficient practice in the entire world, but if it doesn't translate well into the game and against your opponent, it won't matter all too much now will it.

Eventually everyone will get tired of the moral victories...

Moral victories don't win Valley Championships:!:

Just wanted to say to all you BU fans:

Thanks for coming up. It was amazing to see 200+ Bradley fans brave the storm to come see the Braves. I maintain that if I could model my fan base after a mid-major, your school would be at the top of my list.

I wasn't certain we'd win until Maniscalco fouled out. Say what you want about his numbers, but the guy always makes the smart, intuitive play. I use a play from late in the second half as an example: when the ball careened away from the rim on an odd bounce and was definitely going out of bounds, Maniscalco slapped it back to a teammate for a heads up play. He draws fouls when he needs to draw fouls, he hits the open man, and he rarely makes a bad pass.

Granted, I've only seen 3 of your games this year, so you'll know better than me, but I think any school in the country would be pleased to have a Sam Maniscalco on their team. Hell, he might be the kind of player UNC is missing this year.

Once again, your fans were excellent; I'm glad you guys came out to Goolsby's after the game, and I talked to a couple of board members here.

We shot the lights out in the first half, and down 21 is hard to come back from no matter who you are. And they almost did.

Take care, I'll be checking back every now and again to see how the season's going; don't be afraid to come by our board at www.gouwm.com

Good luck in the MVC. Go Braves!

One last thing, and I don't want to be a pain in anyone's side, but this is something we've been trying to get out for years.

The athletic program is simply named the Milwaukee Panthers; so, if you would be so kind as to refer to us as Milwaukee from now on instead of UW-Milwaukee or Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Thanks Braves

The numbers that stand out from the stat sheet are; 1) our 3 point shooting is not good and 2) our big men only played at total of 65 minutes. DC had 14 minutes, AT had 7 minutes, TB had 13 minutes and TW had 31 minutes.

65 of 200 minutes went to our bigs. On and conventional team 120 minutes would go to bigs. If our outside shooters don't hit the 3 then we need to drive to the bucket. We did drive to the bucket in the second half but it sure would have helped to have some bigger guys in to draw defenders and clean up the misses.

The average height of our team had to be pretty short last night. Wish we would shoot better and go bigger when we dont shoot well.
