Using a time out

If BU needs the $$ that bad the program is in bad shape. The only thing the opposing teams need to dread now is getting hit by a twirling hula hoop in front of their bench. Who dreams these goofy things up? The most common quote in our section is "boy, that will get the crowd in the game." Play the fight song every time the opposing team has to call a time out. The crowd is already on their feet and that always keeps or gets them up.
I hate to hula hoop. Never could do it:!: I agree with you Chico.
Hell, if I want to see some butt shaking, I would go and pay for it and watch the girls at
Big AL's:roll:

I enjoy watching the girls dance. That means the band is actually playing and its more like a college basketball game. Play the fight song often.

I'm sure I'd like to watch the young women dance also. Let's make a petition to have the band more involved during these critical TOs. There are probably 3 a game that can make a huge difference.

Get the band more involved at all times, have the cheerleaders, instead of holding one another in the air, actually run through the crowd like the ones at Indiana St used to when I would drive over for games. The crowd was always in the game. Finally, have all the goofy promotions at halftime, if at all.

the thing about the band (this is when i was in the band two years ago, not sure about now), but vroman is always ready with music and can belt something out. He would often try, then some commercial would appear on the video screen as he attempted to start, so he would stop and you could see a small glimmer of annoyance. In my humble opinion, during any called timeout, i.e.-any timeout that is not a media timeout, let the band play. Don't announce 50/50, don't announce attendance, let the band play. Keep the crowd in it, as there is nothing more annoying than hearing the arena rocking, then everyone sitting down during the timeout.

I use to post wishing the same thing about improving the situation to keep the fans pumped up, I have given up. The almighty dollar rules.

Yeah, and the band didn't even get to play at halftime the other night.

Rather they not play at halftime instead of not playing during timeouts. They should play right through the PA announcements. The 50-50 winner is on the scoreboard and the rest is usually stuff nobody cares about anyway.

I just wanted to say, that it is really noticeable how good the BU band is!
I get a chance to travel and see a lot of basketball at different colleges, and the BU band is as good as any I have heard anywhere.
I urge everyone to watch and listen to them whenever they do get the chance to play. They are fantastic!
Good job band members and Dr. Vroman!

So after reading where this thread has gone its safe to assume JL probably should not call any timeouts unless the band can play or cheerleaders are allowed to cheer and all advertising is done on the scoreboard with no actual crowd participation activiites on the court. :)

No, coach Les should call timeouts when he feels he needs to. The rest of your post is right on.
