The 2013-14 coaching carousel starts

Yeah. I thought with the terrible experiences Indiana State had with Knight when they had to cut Tates Locke and Royce Waltman loose, they might not want another Bobby Knight associate again. It's just too much drama and trauma when you have to fire them.

Interesting that this is taking place even before the Horizon League Tournament - and there's no discussion yet among anyone on the UIC board

Kirksey is a lifetime Chicago guy and had a lot of connections - but obviously could not help them get the best Chicago talent.

Al B.'s career record as a D-I assistant is 121-184 - including the years he spent at Bradley.

The guy they kept is Stew Robinson, an Indiana guy and Bob Knight disciple but does not have a lot of long time Chicago connections, which is obviously what they really need.

Despite his win over Bradley, Todd Howard of IUPUI gets fired - gone after just 3 years
Firing a guy after just three years is a bit unusual but he had 70 losses over those 3 years (we have 62)

"... the university has begun a national search process to hire a new coach..."
This is a great opportunity for Rob Judson if he wants to get back into head coaching...

Hey - here's an interesting thought....
There's a discussion among SIU fans about the possibility of assistant coach Anthony Beane, Sr. possibly leaving to take a job either as a head coach somewhere or as a BCS assistant....
and if he does, would Anthony Beane go with him? - which would mean SIU could lose both Desmar Jackson & Beane and be devastated next year.....interesting....
The presence of Beane, Jr. in this equation makes Beane, Sr. a VERY attractive target for some school to hire!!

and here's a coaching carousel story of a different kind involving an MVC school...

Missouri State just hired a new women's basketball coach - who brings in her HUSBAND as her assistant coach...raising some question of whether this violates state "nepotism" laws...

Interesting situation. Of course there are a number of Division I coaches who have had family members on their staff.
In fact, most people don't know this, but the top candidate that Bradley sought out, interviewed, and offered the job to for the open men's head coaching job, almost exactly 3 years ago, wanted to bring his brother and possibly his father onto the staff with him if he agreed to the job. But that was not agreeable to Bradley, who maybe wanted control over his staff selections. That was one of the reasons he withdrew.

Loyola Marymount fires Max Good and they are trying to hire Charlotte Bobcats' Mike Dunlap

Loyola Marymount hires Mike Dunlap as their new coach less than 24 hours after firing Max Good.

How can they fill that job so fast? I thought the job opening had to be posted for 2 weeks to fulfill the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission requirement and be subject to other minority hiring rules. Mike Dunlap is not a member of any of the government's defined minority categories.
I wonder how they can manage such a quick hire without going through weeks of committees, coaching searches, multiple interviews, background checks, and paying $50,000-$75,000 to a search firm?

Auburn's Tony Barbee, who has been on the hot seat since last year, was fired tonight after Auburn was knocked out of the SEC tournament in the first round by South Carolina.
