Thank you Braves

I have a suggestion. I was against coach Les's firing but have never been against coach Ford's hiring. All of us who still wish to keep up with Jim's coaching can simply go on UCDavis's website which I do. No reason to bring up past history one way or the other. Too bad that many on here can't let it go. I did and if I can anyone can because no one was a bigger Les fan than myself.

I don't see why there would be any problem talking about Les here. We talk about Coach Mo, Versace, Albeck and Stowell here. My issue is the bickering that has taken over some of the threads here. Another poster and myself were suggesting that maybe we can designate a place for any discussion surrounding him, but not necessarily to eliminate talk about him. But that's up to the mods.

How often are the other coaches you named talked about negatively? If any of the others were talked about as often as Coach Les, I'm sure there would be "bickering".

Whether they are talked about negatively or not was not my point. I was talking about the arguing going on regarding one particular coach. But seperate from that, you suggested that we should go over to the UC Davis board to talk about Les. I'm saying that wouldn't be necessary if it was done in a civil manner, and perhaps a seperate thread would be a good thing for those that don't want to discuss him. Just a couple of suggestions from me. :)

I'm trying to remember exactly what we do disagree about. :D Though I suspect it has something to do with the direction this program took a couple of years ago....oh wait. I better not post that. :D

I think we may disagree fundamentally on some issues, but agree with how people should conduct themselves when discussing these issues.

Well, your optimism just seems to exceed reality sometimes, though you've come down to earth a bit more lately.

Another difference is our views on what it will take ISU-blue to dance. If we met in the middle, it's not far at all from both of our views.

Actually, I didn't want to see Coach Les go after coming on strong at the end of his last season. But when it happened, I got over it quickly. I have been pretty neutral about the situation, but tend more towards "a change was needed", though I was getting excited about the prospect of the following year.
I really like Geno, and even more now knowing what he's done with this team (but that's basing it off of what he did last year, which was not good)

Coach Les was here 2 years ago. He is a huge part of BU history and to exclude any mention of him on the Valley best message board is absurd in my mind. I echo the sentiment that threads should not be plagued with arguments centered on coaching differences.

A separate thread could make people happy that they can waste their time trying to influence the other side and debate all day. The thread could be tens of thousands of posts long, while the majority of posters could just stay away from that thread.

I'm pretty sure this isn't going to fly, but I hope you see my point. We have seen that there is not a break from the debate - it will live on...and on...and on. But would you rather see it on 1 thread or half the threads when you didn't expect it to come up?

Wow. I'm surprised you believe I'm over optimistic (which I am I admit), when there are others who said they don't care about wins and losses this year, and the same people who think we will automatically win 20 games next year. But I have been saying from the beginning that next year could be a bit shaky with all the new pieces in place and with the loss of two key seniors. So we will be deeper next year, but inexperienced. But yes, I probably have come closer to your views on this even though I have thought from the day Geno was hired that this would be a 4 year project just to get this team back to the NIT at the very least.

Regarding Indiana St., I never said they would definitely be in. But I also said that they should not be written off either with those two great non-conference wins, and now great Valley win. They will get a very long look at the very least providing they don't lose more than one additional game against teams below them.

Agreed about Les as well, and I got over the fact he was gone quickly as well. I think there are a lot of people on here who think otherwise because I bring him up a lot, but that's mainly to defend him when the need arises. But I agree, he's gone, and Geno has been here for two years. Why should we spend all our time discussing the past when we need to support Geno fully? I hope Les does well, and I will defend his history here, but he's not the coach here now.

You probably didn't see my earlier post. I agreed with the person who suggested the seperate thread for exactly those reasons. :D

Maybe you should reread my post. I didn't say "to talk about Les". I said to keep up on him.
My point, I guess, is Jim is gone and everyone should get over it and stop comparing him to Geno, one way or the other.

That's kind of splitting hairs though. Talk about a former coach can pop up in any topic. I can use Coach Mo's first two years here to compare to Geno's first two years, hopefully without a lot of sniping, but the point is, there will always be references to former coaches. I don't think all talk about former coaches and players for that matter should be banned.

But for "keeping up on" former coaches, maybe current news would be found in more abundance on their current websites. But I'd like to think we can have some civil discussion on their current situations here too.

Didn't this thread start with a positive comment about how sports affect our lives? *sigh*

Were you referring to my last post? I'm not trying to inject any negativity into this thread. Am just continuing a previous discussion regarding suggestions on how to stop the bickering here in regards to a certain subject matter that keeps coming up. I figure discussing how to handle this problem now will keep this subject matter from "hijacking" other threads that have nothing to do with this subject. Again, I'm not one of the mods here, but I for one would like to either not keep revisiting this subject, or at least keep it in its own seperate thread. :)

Nono! Just the general direction of the thread. Somehow trailed from a Braves win to JL's name being brought up again and this whole ruddy argument passively aggressively started again. Maybe start a dedicated thread to figuring out how to stop the hijacking? :D

Okay, great. Just trying to clarify things. :)
