St. Louis University fires head coach Brad Soderberg

And one more........gee, these people are really impatient...or maybe there's more beneath the surface....especially suspicious
due to the timing.
SLU has a couple fine young players in Tommie Liddell and Kevin Lisch, and had
two fine incoming recruits in Anthony Mitchell & Marcus Relphorde.

Also...the St. Louis message board is a fairly old-type format, but is an amazingly active and busy board, and already has hundreds of posts in more than a couple dozen threads going on all this.

Some people are happy and most are shocked and very angry.
Here is a very represenatative post from a shocked and angry poster

Maybe they waited til recruits signed their LOI's and now they won't be able to back out as easily if they had just been verballed committments.

I hope they pick someone good. There's a good chance I could end up on the SLU campus next year and in the middle of the Blue Crew.

True, but the best he ever did was get to the NIT. It's been along time for the Billikens since their last trip to the dance.

And that last trip wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for Kenyon Martin breaking his leg and Justin Love taking over the C-USA tournament. I believe they won four games in four days.

Here's a link to Bernie Miklasz's message board on the P-D Web site. Bernie is a P-D sports columnist and really goes out of his way to hos this board. He does a great job and give lots of inside info. As you can imagine, there are plenty of threads about the Soderberg firing and who will replace him.

Here's a thread with a list of possible candidates. Many seem to be longshots or short-term finds.

I think Cuonzo Martin or Kim Anderson would be a good hire. Stallings would probably be the ideal choice (local guy, successful at Vanderbilt), but he'd have to be crazy to leave the SEC.

Sounds like this was the work of Father Lawrence Biondi, which helps explain why the firing was made so long after the season. As far as I knew, SLU AD Cheryl Levick was willing to give Soderberg another chance.

Early rumors list guys like Rick Majerus, Steve Lavin, Pete Gillen, Fran Fraschilla, Chris Lowery, Brad Brownell, Mike Montgomery, etc. to be the next coach.

Lowery said he wasn't interested in the link DC provided.

I would love to see Lavin, Majerus or Gillen at SLU! That would be very exciting to be a part of a new era, beginning with a beautiful new arena and a big name coach. Don't take this the wrong way, but I hope SLU does not join the Valley, only because it is not fair to some of the other sports. I am a swimmer, and the MVC no longer sponsors that particular sport. The A-10 allows conference play in all of SLU's sponsored sports. Outside of basketball, the Bills have had seen some success.

Why would Clo want that job? It seems to be a huge step down from SIU when his name was being thrown around for much more attractive jobs.

Good point. I agree that this would be a huge step down, plus he just got another raise.

this is not yet an official report, but a statement from another site quoting an insider at St. Louis.

Rick Majerus was one of the finalists for the Long Beach State position

If true, let's get SLU on the BU schedule (home-and-home) in upcoming years. I'd love to see Majerus roaming the Carver Arena sidelines.....

Heck I'd just like to see him at a local restaurant for his pre-game meal - bet that would be just as fun as watching him roam the sidelines & maybe more dangerous.
