St. Farm Tourney/Bloomington, Max, PND, etc..

Can you name an "over the rim" player who has ever played in the MVC?

How many do you want me to name? Jackie Carmichael, POB, Lawson, Dinma, Egolf, Slack, guys like that.

Should teams be holding out until they find a post player who is an "above the rim" kinda guy

It depends on the team. UNI has no problem running their offense with guys like O'Rear and Eglseder. Same with Mo State with guys like Creekmore and Patterson. None of those guys would be considered "above the rim" guys.

I think the answers are obvious...Bielfeldt is putting just about every critic to shame..GBE is a Top Ten team from Class 4A....what does Max have to do to convince those who still think he is possibly the best post player in the state.
Maybe a guy like Anthony Davis of Chicago Perspectives has a higher ceiling and potential, but if PND played them today, Max would absolutely dominate the kid and Notre Dame would win by 50.

And, yes, if Max was from Glenbard East and I had seen this much of him, then I would say the same, and he'd obviously be the best player on their team, too.
Tell me again, when the chips were down, in the 2nd half of the Championship game, where Max scored 22 points --
......how many 2nd half points did Glenbard's star, Hill, have??

Come on Tornado, that was one game. If you are going to use that as a sample size Aaron Carter of Indiana State and Andrew Warren are the same. And some guy named R.J. Mahurin (10 points) is 5X times the player Prosser (2 points) is. Now we know neither of those is true, but if one looks at simply ONE game.....

Max has done it in every game this season...or did you just wake up from a long, sound sleep?
and Max can dunk -- so if that's your criteria for putting Lawson, Egolf, Slack, etc as "above the rim" players, then Max belongs there too..
Anyway -- none of those players was dominating, none won a title, none were any better than Eglseder, Coleman, or Falker.
Personally I wouldn't consider any of those players as "above the rim players"...

Not one single player in the Valley in the past 25 years has gotten even 10% of his points on dunks, and even the ones you listed likely never got much more than 20% even inside of a single game..
I stand by my statement that the most successful centers and post players in the Valley in our lifetime and NOT "above the rim" players.

Hey I am not trying to take away from Bielfeldt at all. I am on record as saying he is a good player and will be a steal with whomever gets him. I've seen him #'s too Tornado. Didn't he only have 12 points against Manual? Everyone has an off night in their careers.

Alex Rubin can dunk too. Does that mean he is an above the rim player?

POB wasn't dominating? Maybe not, but he was a game changer with his ability to alter shots and more importantly block shots. Can Bielfeldt do that?

Dinma wasn't dominating?

The fact that neither has a title says more about the players around them, IMO.

Who would you rather have? POB or Dinma or Coleman or O'Rear? Heck you could include Fay in with those guys too.

Above the rim guys has more to do than dunking. Do not forget about the other end of the court. The ability to alter and block shots cannot and should not be discounted.

Here's the deal. Max is a great high school ball player. He has great height for a high school player and put in a lot of time in the weight room that many kids his age haven't at this point.

He is tough, smart, and consistent. He finishes strong and keeps the ball high in the post. He also has his limits. He is a true post player, but is only 6'6. In the Valley and on up he would be guarded by a player that is taller and has more athleticism.

He was the 2nd best high school player at the tournamnet this week, because his skill set is hard to match at the high school level. He was a man amongst boys. In college he will be a shorter man amongst taller men.

Yes, I think he would be succesful at Bradley, but there is a reason that more teams haven't offered. He's not a project, because his game is tight, but he is a risk.

At best, he would be a player like O'Rear which any Valley team would welcome with open arms.

If he wasn't from Peoria no one on here would be having this discussion. If he was from suburban Chicago he'd be just another good, low D1 HS player, and if he was an inner city kid he'd be just another good, low D1 HS player.

well -- of course the fact that BU has recruited the kid gets him more time on this board...but same for Chasson Randle, Iman Shumpert, Stan Simpson, etc...so what??

but I think you're wrong about whether he came from Chicago -- and I think even the closed minded, "never-notice-anyone-downstate" press will soon be talking about Max as well......
BTW-- there are numerous threads on several U of I boards about Max, and ChicagoHoops, Illinois prep Bullseye, and others are starting to write about the guy every day...

and even tho we love Will Egolf here on the Bradley forum..it does no good for your credibility to claim he's an above-the-rim player.

And as for getting above the rim -- Max sure doesn't pick those 17 rebounds a nite up off the floor!!

Where did I ever cite Will Egolf as being 'above the rim'? I think you have me confused with someone else.

Sam Singh averaged a lot of rebounds in high school as well, and had some great games against BCS-bound players. Just sayin'...

So no inner city kid gets credit for being a high Div 1 prospect? Ever hear of Frank Williams, Howard Nathan, Griffith, McClain, etc.?

Didn't mean Peoria kids. Was referring to someone of Max's size and skill from the inner city in Chicago. If Max was an inner city Chicago kid, this conversation wouldn't be happening.

Max is a downstate non inner city kid and Chicago fans probably don't know about him. It's only logical that fans from this area know the local kids and fans from Chicago know the Chicago kids.

I would disagree in this day and age, and I think you're kind of missing my point on this.

Maybe I gave Egolf too much credit. The times I have seen him play live and on TV / Computer he can get up pretty good.

He did high jump something like 6'6 when he was a HS SR, but maybe the knee injuries have hurt his leaping ability some.

Here is a picture of Will in high school before his knee injury/reconstruction. He was quite a leaper, but I think he's lost a little vertical since the knee injury.-

Yup. Still waiting for that talent to be realized. It's gettin' awfully late for him...
