SM Chitter Chatter

Back to the topic, I think it would be a mistake to SM to go to U of I. They already have so many talented guards there as it is. He would not play more than 20 mins a game and would serve as a back up point guard at best. His limatations defensively would also show a lot more in b10 play IMO

That's not hard to do. BU only has 1 in 50 years. Not hard to take that side of the bet.

How much would you wager that BU doesn't compete (ie. top 3) in the league for 5 years?

I guess it's how you define success. For me, it is making the NCAA tournament and having at least some success there. I guess some people would rather have isu's last four years than Bradley's last six years. I would not.

I reccommend we stick to factual stuff and not personal stuff.....

and.......

If he leaves, it's because he decides to. Nothing else.

I disagree....I personally know Sammy, his family...
Sam absolutely does not want to leave....and only a mountain of extremely undesirable circumstances could every force him or his family to even consider it....

so to say "nothing else" ..is wrong as there is not only something and not 'nothing'...there's a mountain of something...

ISU no....... Witchita St, UNI, Creighton perhaps....

I disagree. I think he would start at PG and play very well for Illinois.

Here's the rule from the NCAA website. Perhaps they revised it or I am not reading it correctly? It doesn't seem like he'd be able to transfer if he was going to play basketball for Bruce. Maybe this only pertains to scholarship players and Sammy would walk on?[FONT=&quot]

Graduate Student Eligibility

A student-athlete who is enrolled in a graduate or professional school of the college or university which he or she previously attended as an undergraduate student may participate in intercollegiate athletics, provided he or she has eligibility remaining and is within five calendar years of initial full-time collegiate enrollment for Division I and within the first 10 full-time semesters of collegiate enrollment for Divisions II and III.

Also, a student-athlete who has eligibility remaining and is within the specified 10-semester period may participate while enrolled in a graduate or professional school at a Division II college or university other than the institution at which he or she completed an undergraduate degree.

Finally, a student-athlete who has eligibility remaining and is within the specified five-year period may participate while enrolled in a graduate or professional school at a Division I college or university other than the institution at which he or she completed an undergraduate degree, provided he or she meets the criteria of the one-time transfer exception to the general transfer residence requirement. That exception is as follows:

The student-athlete must be seeking to participate in a sport other than baseball, football, basketball
and men's ice hockey, except that a student-athlete who seeks to participate in NCAA Football Championship Subdivision may use this exception only if transferring from a Football Bowl Subdivision program.

The student-athlete may not have transferred previously from another four-year institution unless he or she transferred previously and received an exception to the transfer residence requirement because his or her institution either discontinued the sport or did not sponsor the sport in which the student-athlete is a participant.

The student must have been in good academic standing and eligible to compete had he or she decided to remain at the previous institution.

The student-athlete's previous institution must certify in writing that it has no objection to the student-athlete being granted an exception to the transfer residence requirement.

NOTE: This exception does not apply to a student-athlete who attends a Division III institution for graduate school, unless the student-athlete is attending the same institution at which he or she was an undergraduate.

NOTE: If the student-athlete transfers to the certifying institution from a Division III member institution and meets the above-mentioned conditions, he or she may be eligible to compete but may not receive athletically related financial aid during that year.

Please contact the certifying institution or conference for additional information. You also may contact the NCAA academic and membership affairs staff at 317/917-6222 if you have further questions.

I don't want ISU success, but I would gladly trade our 1 sweet sixteen run for Creighton-like success over the past decade. Competing in our own conference every year and having a decent chance at the NCAA every year. That's what I want. I loved the sweet sixteen run, but if we can't have consistent success, then was 1 year that great?

I do believe we HAD a chance next year to win or finish second in the valley, but if Sammy leaves, then those chances are gone. We'll be lucky to get back to Jim Les invitational (The 4/5 game on Friday in the tournament). Even if Taylor can come back, I don't think him and DSE can lead us to a conference title on their own. JP will help as well, but we're still going to be lacking that true point guard that SM would give. DS can play PG, but I don't think he'll be ready to be a starter his Freshman year. DSE can play PG as well, but he's more of a natural SG. WL could play point as well, but nowhere near as well as Sammy. I really hope SM's back next year.

I was responding to the post regarding finishing top 3 in the Valley, which isu has has done in three of the last four seasons.

I would rather have our last six years than their last four.

I think everybody is forgetting SM will GRADUATE from Bradley (Once a Brave Always a Brave will ALWAYS apply). He is now moving on to Graduate school.... Maybe Bradley Grad school does not have what he is interested in. EVERYBODY should be happy for SM if he moves on and we should only wish him the best. Basketball elsewhere or not!!

Sammy - Congrats on graduating from BU (Not enough has been said about these players and their academics) and best of luck whatever you do!

Carl M.... the same applies to his dad. Thank you for everything you have done!

I wish him the best whether he plays for us or not...as long as he doesn't leave like Danny Granger did. ;)

Well I for once would like to go into consecutive seasons feeling like we're the team to beat and go into tournaments in STL feeling like no one can stop us and the automatic bid is ours to lose!

The former hasn't happened since the mid 90's and the latter has never happened! I have never once felt like we were destined to win the tournament...while Creighton feels like they can and should win it every year!

Everyone hates them in STL but truth of the matter is that we all probably wish we were as cocky as they are going in to Arch Madness

Have you ever watched DJ, Brandon, or Crandall try to bring the ball up the floor? :-o

If this nucleus of players came back I think they could make a run with the right coach. DSE looked good at PG in the second half of the year and I think he would be ready (with Stewart's assistance) to handle BU's point guard duties.

Now, whether these players come back is a whole other topic for debate. :?

SO WHAT? I'd rather have our last 100 than a lot of other schools...duh. Would you rather have our last four or their last four?

Better finishes, stolen recruits (although I wasn't really impressed with wilkins) and we only won 2 of 8 vs them over that time period. I'd rather have their last four years.

Ditto -- the Maniscalcos are the finest Bradley fans -- loyal, dedicated, tireless in doing extras to support and help Bradley thrive...
However you define a loyal devotee, a fan, or a BRAVE, the Maniscalcos are the best....
we could use hundreds -- even thousands more like them....

Sammy is finishing up and will get his degree in two months...he is looking at graduate schools and also still has a year of eligibility.....
yet we have so-called Bradley fans who are criticizing and attacking...so you decide where the lack of class is.........
