since when do you get a technical foul for yelling at your player to get up ?

The ref didn't even LOOK at Jim.....until AFTER he made the call..

This right here is part of what I talk about all the time when I watch Valley games...

They don't just do it with technicals but they did it with foul calls last night and have been doing it for a few years now...

Our officials are SO BAD that they even make anticipatory calls when they assume that a foul will be committed...

Prime examples last night...

Will getting called for the illegal screen before he even checked the guy and the charge/block call that was already decided even before Hill went over one of our guys...

I believe the Lemon/Rubin collision at half court was also one of those where the guys got caught in each others feet but the ref blew his whistle early and then obviously had to make a call...

As Ive always said it, our refs do the best job at visualizing fouls before they occur...

Yeah, Valley officials "Imagine"

shwoooo...glad that's over....that was my point...heck if they miss 2 ft's the T doesn't cost us anything

That's how I see it as well. If we didn't score the next time down and they hit a three then now JL's technical resulted in a 7-point swing?

I really thought he hung on the rim and there was no need to hang on the rim. No one was under him.

Personally all 3 T's were rediculous. Janks was on a bigtime bad call. Les well his was at one of the worst possible times and simply was not directed at anyone other then his own player. Unless Les goes running on the floor or gets in an officials face you dont call a T with 1 minute to go when you know full and well his reaction was not directly at you.

The 3 that called that game really had no business calling a D1 game. Both teams got scr*wed.
I talked with a long time ref. (retired) today that watched the game last night . He said last night when you have two teams playing so bad that it also effects the refs and the way the game is called.

Anybody post video of Les Technical?

Anybody post video of Les Technical?

I'm a 20+ year season ticket holder -- been frustrated for the last couple of years. I was at the game. When Les got the technical, I heard him and figured it was for voicing his opinion/stomping about the couple of travels on ISU that weren't called after Egolf was stripped / gave the ball to ISU. I actually thought it was very poor timing. I understand what his stance is -- he was urging his player to get back.

I'd like to see the video from that sequence at 1:19. Can someone post to youtube? To either confirm or negate my observation.

(I recorded the game but forgot to extend it past 9pm so I didn't get the final minutes).

One thing I haven't seen on the board yet was the missed goaltending calls - there was definitely one (blocked after hitting the board -- Warren shot I think). And there was another that I thought was on the downward flight.

Sorry. Doesn't change my opinion. You just don't put yourself in that position as a coach. It's called self control. There's a time and a place to throw a whiny temper tantrum...... That was not it!

B4.....he was coaching his players. I mean WE is laying on the floor and slow to get up...is he suppose to sit there and stare at him...no he turned toward Will, stomped his foot and basically told him to get his A$$ in gear.

Not trying to change your opinion but personally I don't see that as throwing a "whiny temper tantrum"

Never mind on the video -- I see it was already posted

Thanks -- sorry for the premature post

You are right, he did hang on the rim.

He also had Egolf hanging on him. And another Brave about to lean into him.

Watching the game on TV, they showed the replay, and after the chin-up (same thing that got Cellus a T a few years ago). Carmichael continued to hang on the rim with his left hand and reached for the ball with his right, as if he hoped to slam it again with out ever letting go of the rim...that's a T.

That doesn't make sense. They are getting well paid to officiate the game.

Yeah. You guys are probably right. You were there and I was not; I'm simply going by what I saw on video which certainly doesn't tell the full story. I guess I'm just still so pissed off at BU blowing a game that they had already won. Frustration has definitely set in for me. :(

Les Probably Didn't Deserve the Technical

Les Probably Didn't Deserve the Technical

After watching the youtube video of the technical, I agree Les can be seen stomping his foot at Egolf to get up. The ref was not too far away when he was doing that and he T'ed him up.

I'm not a Les fan but have to give him the benefit of the doubt after seeing this video....

Has there been a public statement by the officials/MVC as to the reason for the JL T?

One of the other aspects is JL came out on the floor right behind the official when he stomped....

That may have influenced the official with his bad call...

BU still up by 6 after the T FT's then split like the red sea when ISU drove the lane for an uncontested layup to cut it to 4. Followed by several BU missed FT's by their guards....

I think we all know what led to the loss, but are looking for a convenient scapegoat to ease the pain. Try Tylenol instead!

Are you referring to people who would blame Jim Les getting the T for the loss, or people blaming the ref calling the T for the loss?

Can anyone say they wouldn't expect a BU win leading by 6 with one minute left after leading wire to wire?

Poor defense by BU players down the stretch and missed FT's by BU's Guards down the stretch resulted in the eventual OT loss. BU could of, and should of, buried ISU by 20 way before the final 1.5 minutes...

BU AD and Prez will have to decide if/how much the Coach is culpable for this game and the rest of the state of the BU MBB season.....

My only other comment is the old saying, "You can't fire all the players, but you can fire the coach!" ;-);-);-)

That's the problem...

You can't base things on just one game...

But this game was an awful lot like many others which you can judge as the broader spectrum of it all...

It's been more than 24 hours since the game ended and I'm still shaking my head at some of the things that happened in this game. I thought Jank should have gotten a 2nd T after his over the top reaction to his getting T'd up. The make up call foul on Egolf on the next possession was pathetic. The T on JL was absolutely bogus as he was yelling at Egolf to get back on defense. It does seem like JL's reputation with the refs is at it's lowest point if all it takes to get a T is to stomp your foot. I thought when DD got fouled it should have been called an intentional as he was fouled after he passed the ball and the ISU player grabbed him. Still no excuse not to make at least 1 FT. Same goes for DSE. Big ups to Will for knocking down the 2 FT's to send it to overtime. In OT it seemed like we forgot how to play defense. AW then hits 3 straight 3's, each one longer then the next, to put us up 1 with 13 seconds. That brings up 2 points. The 1st is did AW take the shot too quick giving ISU too much time. Obviously it didn't work out to well but I still think it was the right play. The 2nd is why in the world would JL take our only timeout there. Granted ISU probably would have called a TO to set up their offense so we would have had that TO if we needed it, which as it turned out we could have used it. The fould call on Hill's drive was terrible as he jumped into DD when he went up for the shot. Then the coupe de grace was AW getting mugged by 2 ISU defenders and no foul was called. It almost looked like ISU was trying to foul AW as if they were down by 1, not up by 1. I'm still shaking my head.
