Scott Sutton anyone?

Two interesting points in there-

"Meanwhile. Loyola has hired former college coach Eddie Fogler to handle their basketball search and are planning to conduct their interviews at the Final Four in Houston next week."

Eddie Fogler- blast from the past... and interviewing at Final Four... How novel...

Anyone know if Barry H. is still a candidate? Personally, I'd take him before SS. Interesting they've both coached at ORU.
My guess is we'll land BH if he's interested - just a hunch - not sure how strong though.

Hinson's a good coach but, if memory serves, he never made the NCAA tourney once as coach of Missouri State, right?

I'd have no problem at all with Scott Sutton. Have you checked out his conference record at ORU? Holy smokes - 136-58 (.701). Pretty hard to argue with that, even if The Summit League isn't the MVC. In the last eight seasons, he's finished 1st four times, 2nd three times and third once. A winner.

This would be the kind of hire that I would think-"Well at least we didn't strike out" Not exciting to me, but decent. I think his record may be overly impressive for who he played, but he would do OK.

I don't know that much about Sutton-but substantial head coaching experience and a good record-would sound like an option very much worth investigating. However, I believe he pulled out of the Wichita State search a few years ago. He may want to stay at ORU. WSU is a good job-fairly close to home-I don't know the background but he may not want to leave.

I'd take him in a heart beat! I just would have to believe he is waiting for a big boy to come calling.

I found this info on coach Sutton from his ORU bio. Interesting that he lost 3 starters and had 10 scholarship players available and still managed to win 20 games.

The 2009-10 season was a roller coaster ride for Sutton and the Golden Eagles. Despite losing a pair of all-conference starters from an underachieving 2008-09 squad, the Golden Eagles were confident they were about to return to their championship ways. But three season-ending knee injuries in the span of three weeks -- including two in the same practice -- made ???09-10 a year of two steps forward, one step back.

Point guard Hunter McClintock and forward Tim Morton suffered knee injuries during a late October practice and missed the year. Veteran point guard Rod Pearson, who was just hitting his stride after sitting out the previous season under NCAA transfer rules, went down with a knee injury of his own in on Nov. 21 at Virginia. In a cruel twist of fate, the injury occurred one game after Pearson??™s 20-foot floater knocked off Stanford at the buzzer. Before the season had barely started, ORU was down to 10 scholarship players and no true point guard.

But the season wasn??™t a waste for the Golden Eagles; far from it. Highlights included wins over Stanford, a thrilling buzzer-beating home victory over Missouri, and an impressive win over nationally ranked New Mexico. ORU did reach the 20-win mark for the fifth time in six seasons and finish third in the Summit League.

Sign him up!!

I replied to you on PJStar...terrible comparison and JL is gone leave him alone!!! grrrrr

I do not understand why people continue to attack Jim Les. I have no idea what good can come of it.

Kaplan seemed to be in the know about our administration... Personally I love to hear as much as I can about Bradley coming outside of Peoria and I was actually sort of surprised the Tribune has had as much coverage on it as there has been.

Wouldn't mind Sutton one bit though. Hes won conference championships, gone to Ncaas, and has a good last name for basketball.

Looks like he would be a perfect fit..I think his success in league play and reaching post season is just what we are looking for!! I hope he is really interested in BU and not just rumors!!! We need a guy like this for sure great coaching pedigree...

..Sutton ..lost 3 starters and had 10 scholarship players available and still managed to win 20 games...

--they did not win 20 games...they were 19-16, but only 6-11 against non-conference opponents...and they played a very weak non-con schedule with the likes of UALR twice, Rice, IUPUI, and they play in one of the weakest conferences in the US -- and even lost to IPFW, Akron, ND State..

--of their five starters -- three of them were healthy enough to play all 35 games, one 34 games, and the other only missed four games and played 31-starting 30 of them. So can someone let me in on who those 3 starters were who were injured?

--if by chance you are referring to 2010-2011, then the only key player, point guard Rod Pearson - ACL, still was averaging only 4 ppg, 2 apg when he went out...(even now - a full year later he's a 5 ppg, 3 apg player -- not at all the same as losing SM + TB)
They had at least other guys of equal talent to fill in...and no other starter missed any significant games.
Again, their 20 wins were largely a result of playing games against D-II's and whupping up on their conference opponents (13-5) who consist of WIU, Centenary, IPFW, ND State...

They played the MVC's lone NCAA team this year and also lost at MSU. I saw them a lot this year...they'd have smoked Bradley...good athletes and good shooters. That weak non-conference schedule included games at Missouri State, Tulsa, Utah, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Miami. I didn't even include "weak" NCAA teams like Indiana State and UALR. Obviously we have very different definitions of "very weak non conference schedule". How can anyone say their non-con schedule was weaker than Bradley's? Not even close...

So he obviously recruited enough players into his system that could give him depth...Also did a good job of developement with ALL the players on roster not just some of the favorite pets...Remember what ever league you are in you are coaching at a DI school and you are required in todays NCAA to win win or be dismissed in any league..If you remain successful at any school for an extended period of time you keep your job or get offered better jobs!!! This is not a JL SLAM!!!

..weak non-conference schedule included games at Missouri State, Tulsa, Utah, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Miami. .....

Those might be name schools but they are NOT a strong non-sched when you consider this..they lost to all those guys.....
You can't brag about the power of your schedule unless you actually beat someone!!

-Missouri State..They LOST by 17 and Missouri State might be the upper crust of the Valley, but really much more than NIT worthy
-Tulsa..ORU got creamed again
-Utah.. Utah was pretty weak this year, 18 losses, we almost beat 'em and they finished at the bottom of the MWC
-Texas Tech -- again, ORU lost to a pretty mild Texas Tech team who fired Pat Knight for how bad they were this year
-Oklahoma -- ditto -- there's a reason they also fired their coach -- Oklahoma was BAD. Ordinarily HAD THEY BEATEN Oklahoma it's a feather in your cap, but not this year, anyway -- they lost by double digits.
-Missouri -- tough team I agree -- but again they got smoked by 20 -- so I really can't buy that this helps your argument
-Miami -- smoked again...so they went 1-6 against the seven teams you named

Oral Roberts non-conference SoS 93

IUPUI isn't even a non-con game and they finished ahead of ORU in the league. UALR was a tournament team, Rice a CUSA team, if that's the worst you can list...

And that very weak non-con includes road trips to Missouri and Missouri St...Tulsa...traveled to 2 Big 12 bottom feeders, sure, Miami, Indiana St...

I mean, think what you want to think about the coach, that's not my place to tell you, but at least represent the facts correctly. Or at least try.
