Sam gets release...

Oh I know. I've said all along that it happens with a returning coach, it's almost guaranteed to happen this offseason. Just wanted to point out that as of right now (since nobody has said they aren't returning/coming in) that we do not have an open scholarship.

Instead of making snap judgements, stop and think about how the flow of information works. The PJStar quoted Cross as saying Sam hadn't asked for his release in a story that was published yesterday. That means that the reporting for that story was done on Wednesday. In all likelyhood, Sam didn't file the paperwork asking for his release until yesterday, which Cross then agreed to and the PJStar reported today.

In other words, at the time Cross gave that quote, he still hadn't recieved the paperwork, but by the time the story is published, he had.

The firing was not handled all that well, at least IMO based on what has been posted here and written in the PJ Star. But I think you make WAY too big a deal on how the SM release has been handled. And besides, he may still yet choose to come back. This release gives SM the chance to talk with other schools and explore other options. He can test the waters and still decide that Bradley is the best place for him.

But I doubt that the paper and/or MC was purposely trying to hide anything or mislead the public.

Very much agree with your post. Things do not seem to be handled in a very professional manner over the past week! Actually, things appear to be in disarray.

I do not think that anyone was hiding anything... However, maybe Bradley needs a better public relations person.

Exactly.. Very rarely does a player ask for a release and then come back to the college. I would be extremely shocked if that happened in Sam's case.

With that said, Sam has a long, prosperous life ahead of him whether his last year of eligibility is in a Bradley uniform or not. I wish him the best on his endeavors

I wish Sam the best and don't have any problems with him leaving.....BUT I doubt he leaves if JL is still here....then maybe he pursues his masters elsewhere after next season.....if he plays somewhere else and doesn't finish his masters then we'll know he only wanted to play at BU if JL was coach.
 
I guess my age has caught up with me in the Sammy saga. I was brought up that you finish what you start. You don't quit on others that mean something to you. I can see his reason for transfering because BU doesn't offer the Masters program he wants but I would bet alot of money that thought would never have crossed his mind if JL was still his coach. NO WAY he bails on Jim and his teammates.

He did finish where he started... Graduating from Bradley!
He did not quit on Bradley... the Bradley admin quit on him!
People do NOT understand that Sam and Carl are VERY close to the Les family (not just Jim, but others that played for BU also).
All Sam was asking for was one more year of Jim Les. It could have been a great year. Just read and listen instead of typing a personal agenda. Some of you may have understood it was more than just wins and loses of a year.

I personally agree with you, but still think that BU clearly made the right decision with Coach Les.

I thank Sammy for his three years, and will root for him wherever he goes.

I don't think being happy for Sammy, and not hating the administration are mutually exclusive.

I don't suppose that I dare dream that Iowa State is one of the ten teams he is looking at. With Chris Allen (Michigan State), Chris Babb (Penn State), Anthony Booker (SIU) and Royce White (Minnesota) all pushing for starting spots next year and the graduation of long time starting point guard Diante Garrett, Iowa State will have the talent to be much improved next year, but we need a point guard and do not seem to have a true point guard on the roster outside of a freshman. Sam could start and have a team that he could help turn a program around with. We took a player in a similar situation in Jake Anderson, a fellow Chicago native, this year and he did well in his one season at ISU. Have no idea if ISU is anywhere on the radar though. But I do hate to see Bradley losing players as I have always enjoyed my time on this board and you folks are good people.

Sorry sounds like a real mess. Can't see them putting it together in one year.

By the way nothing against Iowa State. I would like to see them do well. I actually attended Iowa State for a whole 6 weeks. I was injured and had to drop out of school. I never went back, but I liked the school.

They have already been together for a year and were abusing our starters every day. Supposedly, our redshirts would routinely win in practice scrimmages by 20 plus points and while our record did not look good this year, our starters held their own all things considered. We lost something like 8 games in which we were either tied or led the opponent in the final three minutes. Had we won half of those we would have been a 20 win team, but we did not because we lacked depth and could not close things out as the game wound down. ISU will return senior Scott Christopherson (a two year starter), soph Melvin Ejim (who started every game this year as a freshman) and part time starter soph Calvin Godfrey to go with all the transfers as well as adding a JUCO guard in Tyrus McGee who shot 45% from three this year and a few freshman guards. Lots of potential for things to come together due to the increased depth next year. Will it blend into a top 20 team? I doubt it, but an NCAA tourney team does not seem completely impossible. But as I said, point guard will be the weakest spot as Allen, Babb, McGee, Sledge, Odunsi, Chrisopherson, etc are not experienced point guards.

IMO, evaluating this as the right decision is a little premature. If BU makes the right hire with a coach who can retain the key elements of the team, and recruit, then and only then, will I agree with this statement.
