This kid is about as far under the radar as you can get. That ESPN link is the only mention I can find of him, and it is from a year ago when he was at Norview High School in Norfolk, Virginia. He is not listed in the databases of Scout.com or Rivals.com, nor is he mentioned anywhere on a dozen other recruiting sites, including several premium recruiting sites, even ones focused on East Coast prep school kids.

SIU has a lot of new players on their roster this season.
Here is a rundown of this year's Saluki players from a blogger, using quotes from Chris Lowery.

I think a few sites have his name wrong -- as it actually appears to be "Bryer" in most sources..
and your NCAA "clock" does not start until you enroll in college, so he should still have 5 years to complete four seasons athletically..
If prep school were to use up your redshirt year, then Dodie Dunson wouldn't have been able to redshirt, nor Chris Cornelius..
ESPN's database appears last year to have him ranked as the #171 SF..

He appears to be doing a 5th year of high school at the military school --
and he is on their "Post Graduate Roster" (as Antonio Bryer)
http://www.fishburne.org/page.cfm?p=409&teamID=6&display=Roster

They also have three kids from Illinois...and a lot of height (6 players of 6-7 to 6-11)

BTW- Coach, if you dig for Antonio with his last name spelled "Bryer" then you do find a bit more..and they all say he's 6-5..
so either he has since changed his name or someone has it wrong and we're onto the right spelling.. ;)

Several people have always said MVC schools have a difficult time finding big players.

They also have three kids from Illinois...and a lot of height (6 players of 6-7 to 6-11)

Doesn't Lowry know the MVC is a guards league? Bombs away....

Lowery is doing what every other MVC coach has to do -- he has to find those "diamonds in the rough"...
most Valley schools are not going to load up on Top 150 and 4, 5-Star kids..
Lowery must think this kid fits the needs he has...
with so many juco kids, one of the down sides is that right away he's got to fill a whole bunch more slots...

This link says he is 6'7

The 6-foot-7, 205-pound forward averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds last season at Norview (Va.) High School. Caissons coach Ed Huckaby, a former assistant coach at Wright State and Hampton, said Bryer may be able to produce similar numbers at SIU.

Other links list him as 6'7 as well:

The Norview Pilots (4-7) beat the Granby Comets (6-9) on Friday night behind a monster game by William Todd. Todd scored 21 points, grabbed 3 rebounds, and had 1 steal. He got plenty of help from the athletic Antonio Bryer, who recorded a double-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 steal. Bryer, a 6'7 power forward, is ranked #147 in the nation

SIU got a third recruit for 2011-2012; 6-7 forward Antonio Bryer of Fishburne Military School.

The yearly tuition at Fishburne Military School is $25,400 per year, and one of their claims to fame is that they are the alma mater (1964) of WWE guru Vince McMahon.
They just started their post-grad basketball program last year, and 2009-2010 was the post-grad basketball program's first season.
They actively recruit players that have already finished four years of high school but who want to develop further and get D-I interest.
They play purely as a top prep school and do not play in the Virginia High School equivalent of IHSA.

SIU's four 2011 recruits are 6-7, 6-7, 6-8, and 6-11. I know some sources say shorter but it is nice to see some height coming in. They are the saviors that the 2008 class was (sarcasm) but it is nioce to see all four year players unlike the last couple of years.

SIU has had at least 11 other players since 2007 that are as big or bigger...

..so it's not the height that is important, since I am sure you know well, that Chris Lowery has only played four of these guys (Boyle, Shaw, Falker, Fay) any significant minutes..
(Evans, Teague, Booker... played sparingly, only 15-17 mpg but Teague is going to log a lot of time in upcoming years)...
Nick Evans 6-11
Gene Teague 6-9
Jordan Myers 6-8
Carlton Fay 6-8
Anthony Booker 6-8
Tony Boyle 6-8
Chris Cornelius 6-7
Randall Falker 6-7
Matt Shaw 6-7
Kobby Acquah 7-1
Jamal Foster 6-10

Nick Evans 6-11 (Averaged 15.7 minutes last year)
Gene Teague 6-9 (like you said, will log lots of minutes)
Jordan Myers 6-8 (red shirt freshman, never had chance to earn minutes)
Carlton Fay 6-8 (like you said, lots of minutes)
Anthony Booker 6-8 (Averaged 16.9 minutes last year)
Tony Boyle 6-8 (like you said, lots of minutes)
Chris Cornelius 6-7 (1st year red shirt, second year out with knee surgery, knee never fully recovered, not Lowery's fault)
Randall Falker 6-7 (like you said, lots of minutes)
Matt Shaw 6-7 (like you said, lots of minutes)
Kobby Acquah 7-1 (one year transfer because his previous school dropped major, never expected minutes)
Jamal Foster 6-10 (14.1 minutes was best year, not great but he didn't just ride the pine)

Lowery will play them if they contribute.
