Rienk Mast at Nebraska

Nice to see Rienk Mast and Nebraska basketball having success.A win against Michigan State. His basketball skills are a credit to him and coach Wardle’s staff.
Enjoyed Stephen Bardo’s comment during game with Michigan State yesterday. (‘ Rienk Mast is a man ‘ ) I think Rienk has
honed all of his skills. Go Huskers!

Between Mast, Marcus at Illinois and the kid at Purdue the Big Ten should send a thank you letter to the MVC for helping their teams get better

This is what stinks about paying and bidding on these players. You end up training and coaching players to help them get better only to lose them later when they can help you the most as far as winning games.

Right, and not in the B-10, but 2 former Valley players, Noah Carter (UNI) and Sean East (BU) are killin it this season for Mizzou.

Still think it was a mistake NOT to try to keep East (17.5 ppg and nearly 4 Apg). Among other things he's good at, guy hits his FTs!

But the other options are:
Build your team with portal transfers from other teams- which too often turn out to be disgruntled or uncoachable kids
Or recruit kids who don't have the potential to ever be very good, ensuring that other schools won't try to lure them away

And neither of those two options will lead to a winning program.

Exactly. The other one is bring in freshman recruits and hope they only improve so much that the bigger schools do not poach them. It is pretty much a no win situation for the smaller schools.

Right, and not in the B-10, but 2 former Valley players, Noah Carter (UNI) and Sean East (BU) are killin it this season.

There is also Antonio Reeves, former ILSU guard, who is averaging 18.0 ppg, which leads #14 Kentucky, and which ranks 4th among SEC players.
And Valparaiso's Ben Krikke, who leads Iowa in scoring, and is 8th among Big Ten players.

Here are a few other former MVC players who are distinguishing themselves elsewhere, though not at the highest major level.
Among them--
Jonathan Mogbo, a juco transfer who was underwhelming in his one season at Missouri State, is now at University of San Francisco. He is averaging 15.2 ppg and 10.3 rpg , and USF is 6-3 with wins over teams from the Big East, the Big Ten, and the SEC.- Jonathan Mogbo Career Stats - NCAAM - ESPN

Skylar Wicks, another former Missouri State player, is now at University of Incarnate Word after spending a couple years at a junior college. He is one of the top 30 scorers in Division I, averaging 20.0 ppg and 7.2 rpg- Sky Wicks Career Stats - NCAAM - ESPN

Sy Chatman, formerly at ISU, is now at Buffalo and averaging 16.3 ppg and 7.0rpg- Sy Chatman Career Stats - NCAAM - ESPN

Curious if Rienk will take his COVID year and stay at Nebraska. I forgot that he had redshirted his freshman year. He's had a few down games at Nebraska but even when he's struggling to score he seems to be rebounding and making an impact.

I suspect that it will come do to where he can make more money - staying at Nebraska, or moving on to Europe.

I know we like to follow our former Braves, but this thread is breaking my heart. We could really use Reink’s leadership, scoring, and toughness and Zek’s athleticism right now. Just a tough pill to swallow.

Yep. Just like we could have really used Roberts last year as the guards weren't real strong that season either. There seem to be some mid-major programs still thriving through all of this though. It's something the staff is going to really have to work hard at in the future.

Mast is said to be out until at least early January after minor surgery on his left knee - same knee he had ACL surgery before he played at Bradley.

He is averaging 13.0 ppg, 9.9 rpg, 3.0 apg
