i am disappointed with the red pride turnout. will other students please post on this board that are a members of the red pride.i have ask other students and they say i have no interest. maybe i am missing something. thought this was a great idea. please tell me i am not wrong.

Supposedly student season ticket sales are through the roof compared to in the past. I don't know how this ties in exactly with 'Red Pride', but it sounds like the students are excited about basketball this year. Let's see it on Saturday!

I'm going by what someone very high up in the athletic department told me today. You can take it up with them. Perhaps they was just referring to tickets for the DePaul game.

That's true, but almost 500 sets of student season tickets have been sold. They are $15 for the whole season and you get a shirt with your tickets. I know that every seat on the floor has been bought and that tickets are now being sold in the middle bowl for students.

As far as red pride goes, I think it's flawed. There isn't enough marketing done to get people excited about sports other then mens bball.

Thanks 06. I guess the individual I spoke with was talking about season tickets, although the number they gave was significantly larger than that. Sounds like SEASON TICKETS are selling at a rate we haven't seen in a while!

They are. The number I heard was from a few weeks ago as well, so I'm assuming it's over 500 by now. Props to the Coach Les and Coach Vogt and the rest of the basketball department they have really taken an aggressive approach to getting students pumped about attending BU basketball games.

I dont know if I would say pumped. We lost a lot of good seniors from last years student section, like I posted before there were some a couple promising freshman, but nobody else seems to be "that guy" who is loud and always yelling. I know you guys sit by the visitors bench, but I was the only person on the other side that was standing all game against NWMS. I wont even be at most of the games this year due to hockey. If more people go it looks good, but if they all just sit and do nothing it doesnt contribute to the atmosphere much.

I know it is gonna seem off topic, but it IS related... Do some people still think the Student Body should vote and decide on the new mascot - let it be up to them?

Ya, I sit in the front row in front of the opposing bench, and it always seem much louder on our side. My first game freshman year I sat on the opposite side, and I'll never sit on that side again. Hopefully when the reg. season starts the students start to show the excitemen that having sold 500+ tickets would seem to show they have.

Personally, I couldn't care less what the mascot is. We are the BRAVES, so to have a mascot that represents something else seems stupid and pointless to me.

No. Alumni dollars are what drive the program and keep the university alive, so they should have a larger say than the students. Their donations earn them the right to have the most influence IMO. They choose to remain involved with the university even after their time has past. Putting the decision in the hands of a group that is only there for a short time and may be more influenced by fads and trends doesn't seem to be looking at the big picture. If it's a decision for the long term future and well-being of the university, it should be made by those who are thinking that way, i.e. alumni and the administration. I do though welcome and encourage student contributions. They definitely should have some say, if not the final say.

that is partly correct. any student can get in for a dollar and be general admisson, anytime.we need to have more student involvement from current students.not from non-students or former students who think they know better than us why we don't have more current students attending the games.just my opinion as a current student.

What's the bitterness with students buying season tickets? I would think as a current student you'd like the fact that students are starting to care again. Sounds like your cynical about it for some reason.

not cynical. disappointed. in my senior year after last season i wish there was more excitement with our student body. i am excited and i will be there. i just wish there were more students like me. that post and go to games and have fun.

It is true that student season ticket sales are up. I've heard from the BU Athletics Dept. and marketing people that sales are upwards of 400.
And it is true that the lower bowl is completely sold and they have multiple sections in the upper bowl reserved for students. BUT I think those numbers may be a little misleading because they sold a large number of season tickets over the summer to incoming freshman at orientation.
I think it's more a result of freshman gobbling up season tickets instead of people getting excited about BU hoops.
About Red Pride: I think it's a great idea, but, like you guys said before, I don't know if it's really helped generate excitement about all the sports. But I do think this is a step in the right direction. The marketing department is doing more this year than in years past to get students more involved. There's a monthly roundtable meeting for students to voice their opinions about BU athletics and how to improve things. Email Kim Liddell in the marketing dept. for more info.

Nothing wrong with wanting that flipper. Hopefully we'll have a few more winning seasons with postseason appearances and there will be more die-hards like you, me, and others on this board.

Here's to throwing back a few and getting a 'W' on Saturday.

They're over 600 as of today. That's about 10% of the student body. I think that's a good start for a program that's on the rise. Percentage-wise, I think that would compare very favorably with a lot of places. But like flipper has said, we need MORE!

sounds great. i enjoy the games. really had fun last season and i am sure i will this season. braves are going to surprise many. can't wait until saturday night.

A larger say given to alumni? Even as a new alum myself, I think thats a load of bull. And in the spirit of this election season, terribly undemocratic. I'd prefer keeping it simple, one person, one vote. And just like it is in all elections, those who really care will make their voices heard. Oh and just so you know, those students will be fellow alumni one day.
