Why did we spend millions of dollars for new buildings if we are going after kids that are being recruitied by Western and Army? Give me a break.

I will never understand people who follow sports yet find every little thing to get upset about. If it's something that makes you so upset rather than enjoyable why waste your time.

Patrick O'Bryant was also being recruited by a bunch of little guys..
..and that's just the nature of mid-major basketball --- every Valley school does it -- you gotta go for kids based on potential and speculation because if he's really good, Duke is going to get him.

I am just saying we spent all that money to bring kids in that aren't good enough to play right of way. And we aren't going up against other mid majors we are going against low majors.

Given the other recruits whom have given their verbals for this recruiting period, I look at the Wells commitment as us taking a flyer on a 7' plus player. I have no problem with that. It is hard enough for a Mid-Major like Bradley to land 7' players.

Is your goal to start a bunch of threads just to complain? We landed several potential high-major caliber players the last couple of years - DSE, JP, DS, Remy, etc. Many of the players that end up being very succesful at mid-majors are those who weren't heavily recruited, especially big guys, POB, Gordon Heyward, O'Rear, etc. Anyone know what major powerhoueses were in on recruiting Hersey? IU? UNC? KU? UK? Please fill me in.

Not hardly... Hersey was playing center at Westinghouse and the coach invited Versace to Chicago to check the talent of his player. The Hawkins comparison on a talent level is not a valid one when compared to Wells. imho We know that Wells will be a project. Versace knew from the start that he had a major talent with the Hawk.

What was the purpose of building everything then if everyone like recruiting projects? When I give them my money for the project the told me it was for purpose of ramping up are recruiting.

That's my point. I actually knew how The Hawk was recruited, my point is you can't judge someone based soley on who was recruiting them. Dick knew he had something, but no one else did.

again... The recruiting class has to be judged in its entirety not solely on one recruit.

Thought you knew, but wasn't entirely certain.:) I don't mind the Wells signing as if it turns out positive for us, we have a difference maker in the MVC. We should not be overly optimistic or pessimistic about this signing.

I know it's early, but does anyone have any thoughts on where our 2011 class stands next to other MVC schools. I don't much keep up on other schools commits, but I'm sure others do. I think that's the best way to judge the millions we spent on ramping up recruiting.

You cant compare JL to Dick Versace, you just cant.

Very few top players who have come to Bradley were heavily recruited. Hawk had offers from Eastern Washington and ISU. Jim Les had only an offer from Cleveland State, which he took, because BU wouldn't offer him. Danny Granger chose Bradley over Yale. Roger Phegley had no Division I basketball offers and came to BU to play baseball. And the list goes on.

And, as far as Hawk goes, Versace knew he had a player, he just didn't know how good of a player. Even after inking Hawk, the thought by man around town was that Jerry Thomas was the prized recruit for the Braves that year.

Two more points:

1. I think the fact that this kid was being recruited by Coach Mo at WIU is a great sign. First, Coach Mo was a strong recruiter. Second, Mo did the unimaginable and transformed Jeff Rabey (remember him?) into a stud of a post player his senior year so he must have a pretty good eye for what kind of project can be developed into a quality contributor.

2. Notable exception was a guy like JJ Anderson, who led the nation in scoring.

The Army spends far more on recruiting than Bradley ever could!

I wouldn't get upset over things like this. Plenty of big schools and NBA teams miss on players. Just because little schools are looking at them doesn't mean they aren't good players. Get upset when we don't get talent or players don't get better.
