I would have to believe that Ga Tech, Wake, and Texas Tech were offered CBI bids....wouldn't ya think??
Both GT and Wake finished above Virginia in the ACC.
Texas Tech finished ahead of Nebraska in the Big 12 and Nebraska is in the NIT.

I know Wake declined.....I think the Big 12 also agreed as a community to decline bids, but I'm not sure.

IUPUI and Wright St not playing? I thought this was the problem the CBI was trying to solve! I'd have to bet they both balked at the 60k figure they were staring at.

It's clear that's there's an NIT bubble, and there's a good, solid 8-10 teams who deserve a postseason who need the CBI.

There's heavy talk about Illinois turning down a bid over on the Illinois boards, and a lot of people are
kinda upset, since almost all the teams in the CBI are roughly Top 100 teams RPI-wise,
and many people see nothing wrong with playing in a tourney that has all Top 100 teams!
More than half the Big Ten was outside the Top 100 in RPI, so the CBI is actually in a way,
a better deal than playing the Big Ten conference season!!

What was the real word on that? Did BAM say no? I doubt the players said no, but maybe it was them. Was it the Athletic Director who said no?

Was it because they might have to play Bradley?

Was it because they might have to play AT Bradley?

I don't think we will ever know for sure, but rumors have held that because of Illinois' losing record (like Cincy had) they would be expected to be a road team throughout the CBI, and might have to go somehwre like Bradley, Ohio, Valparaiso, or Tulsa.

What a dissappointing year for Providence. I thought they were supposed to be a young team(last year) that was going to break through this year.

Wright et al

Wright et al

The Wright St one really surprises me. They must have declined because of the $60,000.

Wright State AD said no and then retired a week later. Cited 60K and inability to fund. Can not find the original article appeared on 3/17 IIRC

Coach took a different approach pointing fingers at the "back Room" Not what I would expect from a candidate for the IU job.

Fanboard has several mixed emotions from Cusack being right to him making a mistake to the kids being "to tired and worn out to play". Several threads on the subject

Just got to Atlanta after leaving Peoria and switching cars in Muncie IN. Hope you guys do well down in VA. Will be pulling for ya. Hope to put up an impressions thread a bit later. Had a great time visiting with Andrew and the Warrens. After 4 summers of AAU ball and kids going different ways it always seems life is too short when good folks are involved.

Plus, remember, the Illini played 4 games in 4 days just 48 hours prior to the CBI tipoff..
