Post game comments

Was listening to post game with Dave Snell. I live a half an hour from Carver Arena and coach Wardle never made it for his post game for comments of the game. Anybody know what he had to say following the game. Any thing of interest that he said.:?:

He made it, just came really late. Can't remember the details, but I think the gist is that he was happy they won, but wanted to reinforce with the team that they need to play 40 minutes. I think he was disappointed in letting UIC come back and letting Rivera go off like he did. I'm sure others on here are better at remembering details than I am!

Glad he sees it and is addressing it. There are still numerous TOs every game that make no sense, even from the starters and players getting a lot of minutes. Things have to get cleaned up and he knows it if they want to win in St. Louis.

These are accurate comments related to the post-game interview... and Coach is not going to "air his teams laundry" on a post-game interview... yet my interpretation of what Coach referenced after a long wait for the post-game interview... they had a team meeting & everyone spoke. It sounded like the primary topic was "player accountability". Coach said it is good to have these discussions after a win (vs. a loss) (albeit yesterdays win was frustrating)... He also referenced they have to find "joy & celebrate"

Here is Mike Boynton, Oklahoma State basketball coach, in comments to the press yesterday (Thursday, Feb. 15) where he addressed his losing record this season and rumors that his job is in jeopardy. He is whining about how hard it is to recruit and keep players in college basketball these days with NIL, transfer portal, one-and-done players, and other changes, and the fact that the available NIL money at Oklahoma State, which exceeds $500,000, is not as much as some other Big 12 schools. Poor guy. His salary is $2.8 million per year, and he is signed through 2028, despite having only 1 winning Big 12 record in 7 seasons.
The athletic department budget at Oklahoma State is well over $100 million, and the basketball program alone has a budget of over $10 million, one of the largest in the country. That is many times what Bradley's athletic department budget is.

I see what you are saying here but we need more D-1 coaches complaining about this play for pay situation because it is hurting pretty much all of the teams including us in recruiting and retaining players. With Mast we could have won another championship plus we do not know the next valuable player that leaves because of the money. I realize Mast might have left for the competition yet the money to me was a defining factor. I hate the fact that you have to re recruit your players after the season. We are never going to be able to match these BCS schools in paying our players.

With Mast we could have won another championship plus we do not know the next valuable player that leaves because of the money. I realize Mast might have left for the competition yet the money to me was a defining factor. I hate the fact that you have to re recruit your players after the season. We are never going to be able to match these BCS schools in paying our players.

They could help fix it by adjusting the amount. Congress said they had to pay the athletes but did not say how much..Set an amount to pay all the players the same for everybody. That would put all schools on an even level theoretically.

I am not against coaches or administrators pushing for changes with NIL and the transfer issues, or changes in the NCAA Tournament selection process. I wish they would do more of that. But it they only complain when it affects them or their jobs. But it's the mid-major programs who are affected far more than the big boys, and they are ok with that. The major conference programs continue to pull in hundreds of millions of dollars of NCAA money whether they win or lose, while the smaller schools get squeezed and get very little of that money. Plus, the only changes that the major schools like Oklahoma State ever seem to favor are ones that benefit them and help them take even bigger slices of the pie like when the selection committee switched to the NET instead of the RPI after the mid-majors "cracked the code" and benefitted from the RPI. That lead to even fewer mid-major schools getting at-large bids.

It's interesting, I think there is a lot happening that few people predicted. For instance, some of the top athletic programs in college are not actually the richest. For instance, Alabama. Many speculated that Saban retired because he saw that he was unable to compete with some of the other very large schools (I'd guess Ohio State, Texas, etc) with NIL. In other words, the prestige of the greatest college football coach of all time could not overcome the lure of money to the top players. Alabama was already appearing to be eclipsed, and while nothing can last forever and especially not a dynasty like Saban's, it is strange the timing of his downturn corresponds with NIL.

I don't think the impact of NIL has been as large on college basketball as football, primarily due to the ability of the basketball players to go pro after just 1 year as compared with 3 years in football, but we may start seeing some of the historical blue bloods suffer more as really rich schools start to "buy" players. Can Kansas or Duke compete with the biggest, richest schools in the country? Will history and prestige still carry them or will players go for money first all of the time?
