Nice to see someone else on here that has done his research, Purdue recruits locally because there is so much talent in this area, we didn"t and look how that has worked out, one of the many reasons why I was not happy with A.Brooks III as our recruiter, no connections in this area.
I understand your point, but Purdue and how they recruit is a world away from Bradley and schools like Bradley have to recruit. Purdue can pretty much get whatever recruit they choose.
Bradley, otoh, will miss on 95% of the kids they target, no matter who is coach. And though there is a lot of talent in Chicago, every one of the top 50-100 programs in the country recruit them. I will bet that whoever the next coach is, they will not be able to recruit Illinois and especially the Peoria area kids any better than Jim Les did.
Just look at the rosters of schools in Chicago-Loyola, UIC, Northwestern, etc. The majority of them are not from Chicago, and a lot of them from outside of Illinois. Also, not many kids that BU could have gotten, or would have benefitted from if they could have.

And there are plenty of guys Bradley missed on that teams like UNI, SIU, Indiana State, Drake, and others have taken that were in a fairly narrow radius to BU...so what's your point?
I believe a good coach and great recruiter with ties to the area should be able to get more talent to come to Bradley...

Besides, if we are being compared to Loyola and UIC then we are in a whole lot more trouble than I thought...
My point is using Purdue as some example of how we should recruit is not comparable, IMO. They simply can pick and choose their players like a smorgasbord. We can't and never will.
And what kids should Bradley have gotten that teams like UNI, SIU, Indiana State, Drake, and others have gotten that would have made a significant difference here above the players we did get. You won't come up with many. And I'll spot you Rayvonte Rice, though BU did recruit him.
Maybe those schools should have recruited Chicago better considering their records. We are not saying we can get the same recruits that Purdue does, but I guarantee that Lusk knows of some players that are good mid-major material.

Purdue can offer and land just about anyone they want...
they wanted Lewis Jackson out of Illinois -- they get him..
They wanted JaJuan Johnson & E'twuan Moore from Indiana ..they get them..
they go after Ryne Smith out of Ohio -- they have him...
Carl Landry out of Milwaukee, they get him...
But when they wanted Keaton Grant out of Florida -- they get him
and when they wanted international players like Nemaja Calasan (Bosnian), Sandi Macius (Croatian) ....
so Purdue goes where they have to but have no trouble getting the best local kids...
Bradley is NOT going to get many of the best local kids...nobody did any better getting the local kids than Jim Les did (Dyricus, Crouch, Donivine, Prosser, Ruff, Cellus, Sammy, Walt...) but the next coach is almost certainly going to brought in from out of this area...and I am going to stick my neck out and say he will have at least some difficulty landing local kids....
Da Coach...I disagree with you..We have to start thinking outside of the box. If we take the attitude of, "we can't and never will", you are probably right, we never will. However, the Butlers, Gonzaga and other top mid-majors seem to get pretty good players. Illinois doesn't offer complete advantage over Bradley. Bradley does have some advantages over Illinois; ie, smaller classes, new training facilities, big fish-small pond syndrome, etc, etc, etc. I am sure that other people on this board could come up with a major list of advantages that Bradley has over Illinois. Wasn't there a time some years ago when, in fact, Bradley did out recruit Illinois?

Bradley certainly doesn't have the recruiting pull that Purdue does, but to say Purdue doesn't have trouble getting the best local recruits is a bit of a stretch.
They didn't land Eric Gordon, DeShaun Thomas, Mike Conley, Greg Oden, Luke Zeller, Tyler Zeller, Jordan Hulls, Jeff Teague, Chris Thomas, etc.
Purdue has plenty of competition for the guys they recruit.
I just hope the new coach can recruit guys to fit his system. There are numerous examples of having great "talent" but having it be misfitting talent and team results reflecting that.

Purdue is one of the few schools that seem disinterested in going hard after the one and dones...thus three of your examples just might be kids Purdue didn't covet as much as kids like JaJuan Johnson..
Then your examples like the Zellers & Hulls -- clearly Matt Painter thought they were not suited to the banging of Big Ten play as he really didn'teven offer those guys or go hard after them....
Painter has gotten almost all of his prime target over the past 4-5 years....Matta and Wber have, too for the largest part...

My point isn't about who Purdue does or doesn't recruit, it's that they have the same or stiffer competition for players that Bradley does, just typically for different players.

You and I disagree -- Hulls saw that he would NOT be the starting PG at Purdue and might not for a couple years to come..
at IU he saw immediate time as starting PG! If Painter wanted Hulls that badly he'd have matched Crean's promises..

Baloney, Purdue desperately wanted both Zellers and that's the weak link on this years team. Painter's been trying to get a banger inside for 4 years and he spent tons of time on both Zellers, esp Tyler. Purdue got Lewis Jackson because Weber didn't pull the trigger on him in time. Nothing comes easy for Purdue in Indiana, the competition for the top players is intense between them and IU and you get Kentucky, Louisville, Duke, UNC, Mich, MSU, and Ohio St trying to cherry pick whomever they want. The key to Purdue's recruiting is finding the Chris Kramers & Ryne Smiths that the big boys aren't hot after. In fact Painter's most recent quest was thwarted by Izzo who came in and stole Branden Dawson from him. Since he got Hummel, Johnson, & Moore, there have been several big misses, most notably on big men.

Yet he has still done an outstanding coaching job....
Part of why I want Lusk is because of all the knowledge and experience he has received through Painter...he has learned a whole lot and I think he'd be great here and an outstanding fit...
You're around the Boiler program...what do you think?
From what I hear, Lusk is Painter's right hand man and is highly thought of by coaches, players, recruits, AAU people, and high school people he has dealt with. He's not Purdue's #1 recruiter but he probably has seen the inside of every gym in Indiana and most in Illinois. The only down side I see is lack of HC experience aside from one year at Univ of Dubuque. Since he's been at Purdue, the Boilermakers have made four-straight NCAA
Tournament appearances, reaching the Sweet 16 in each of the last two seasons, and won both a regular-season Big Ten championship and a Big Ten Tournament title.
BU could do a lot worse.
