Pat Knight out at Texas Tech

amicable? ... hmmm....this tirade was part of it...the players erupted and even Pat Knight went off...

"John Roberson and Mike Singletary issued an apology Thursday after ripping Red Raiders fans ...
The blast — offered without provocation — preceded an emotional spiel by coach Pat Knight, who said he has proved he can coach if he’s no longer wanted in Lubbock after his third full season since taking over for his legendary father.

Knight ... also let some of his frustrations show. Knight’s job security has been prodded as Tech nears the announcement of a new athletic director

"This program is competitive, but that’s not for me,” Knight said. “I mean, honestly, I’m going to be coaching here, I’m going to be coaching somewhere else. I’ve proven I can coach.”
I run a clean program, I don't cheat, my players graduate and we have discipline. So if you don't want me here there's going to be someone else that wants me."

also..
"You can’t control that stuff,” Knight said of speculation surrounding his gig. “I’m the coach of this team until I die or they fire me.”

...and the firing takes place less than ten days after a NEW Athletic Director took over...
...and btw -- here's the graduation rates for Bob Knight at Texas Tech -- over his final five years there, he was UNDER the national average 3 of the 5 years...and all three years was low enough to get warnings from NCAA for bad performance...
(920 and under)

Hmm. Well, I guess it all depends on what you read -

"It's not an ugly situation," Knight said. "I mean, we left on good terms. I'm glad it ended like that, especially after being part of the deal at Indiana. That was tough. But this is different. It's business."

Further down in the ESPN article -

Knight said he was glad his dismissal came before the tournament because of all the potentially negative media chatter about a pending firing."It's not just negative toward us. It's negative to the university," Knight said. "It's not good, even for the guy that's following ... that's why I just told them, when they told me, 'You're not going to get another year,' let's just get it out there now. It worked out for the best."

Are there other firings that have "We left on good terms", "I'm glad it ended like that", and "It worked out for the best." that you know of? Perhaps there are, I just don't know of any recently. Maybe there are.

I see him going PAC 10. But how much do you guys think he'll go for?

How out of our price range would he be?

PAC 10? I would doubt it. Why PAC 10? He has mid-west ties and mid-west characteristics. I bet he stays somewhere close to the Mississippi River.

I can't see there being much demand for Pat Knight. I don't see the allure. He got his big break at Texas Tech since his dad shoehorned him in and he failed miserable at that.

I know there's no chance of this happening...but everyone's allowed to dream, right?

We hire Pat and he brings the General as his assistant!!!!:D

I was just trying to sound important with a prediction and I thought PAC 10.

Although, I do have a gut about the PAC 10. With Altman going to Oregon recently, I just got the feeling of PAC 10. Maybe Oregon St. or AZ St.

I would just be happy with some pro BU press via ESPN, or the general in the stands at Carver. Talk about a safe hire imo. Wherever he goes attendance will probably rise. The "Tebow" factor if you will.

You have got to be kidding! This guy has a terrible record at Texas Tech... He got the job only because his father demanded it. He had a lousy performance record, he was criticized soundly for poor recruiting....WOW! How can you even think it????? Are you the same guy that called a radio station yesterday and recommended Knight?? Why do you think they fired him?? He was terrible!!!

WHAT!!! You have got to be kidding!!!! This guy will be super lucky to get a job anywhere!!

sure, that could happen.....and Lady Gaga will perform at all halftimes, with Mick Jagger doing the play-by-play...;)

Who in the world would want Pat Knight? Somebody on this board needs to read the fan sight for Texas Tech> Pat Knight did a terrible job at Texas Tech....Check the recored...Bob Knight also did a lousy job at Texax Tech his last 3 or 4 years...

So let me get this straight. You support Pat or Bobby Knight's candidacy for the BU job?

Bobby makes > $1 mil as an ESPN analyst....he's not going to give that up to coach anywhere let alone any midmajor...

Not sure where Pat is at from an X's and O'x standpoint, but his midwest ties could surely help. I don't really remember what the scene was like after Bob got ousted from IU (after the video of him hitting the kid in practice), but I am not sure if there were many universities that were willing to give him a chance because of that. Texas Tech is not exactly a powerhouse of the big 12 either. I wouldn't say they are at the same level of where DePaul is at in the Big East, but I imagine a similar situation when comparing the two conferences. Cellar dwellars. Tough place to recruit at.

I wouldn't discount him just yet. He might actually be able to do some good at a school like BU. It will be interesting to see if he makes the short list.

Funny...I was just reading that in his 3 years, particularly his last 2 years...2 years ago he won 4 conference games...this year he won 5.. Never been to the ncaa tourny, etc...I cannot believe ANYONE would want Pat Knight! WOW!!!

Who would want him..I believe that his good years have gone by the wayside many years ago.

I don't think he ever really got a chance to build a reputation in lower conferences like many coaches do. In the coaching world, I think the valley is still seen as a good place to do so.
