Partial ISU Schedule Revealed

Their tour. at home during Thanksgiving break is not a great idea if they are looking to get any kind of decent attendance with the students being gone and highly doubtful they return for any of games against those type of teams, but they should get 3 easy wins anyway.

And that's what it's all about, right?

I agree, their non-conference attendance will probably not be much better than any other recent year. Now they're coming off consecutive 24-win seasons and may still not put people in the seats.

The problem with their schedule is that it does not allow them much room for error. Ours is a bit better and if we start strong we have a chance of moving up the polls and receiving some decent media attention. They have no chance of decent media attention unless they start the Valley season 8-0 and even then they will not have the resume to crack the top 25.

I was having a little fun with some of the ISU fans earlier, but I really don't understand why ISU does not get into a tournament like we have done for the past few years. (including this year) Playing a BCS school in one of these tournaments would give ISU and the rest of the MVC big boost.

It's called "fear" Ben;)

I dont think the Birds are shying away from these tournaments- they are just not having any success getting in them... I dont think Jank wants to risk the pre-season NIT and lose early and lose out on possible games. While the Thanksgiving tourney is a joke- it will at least allow them to play 3 games guaranteed.

After the awful loss to Drake in the 08 MVC final- Jank decided the Birds needed to be in better shape and get ready for back to back to back games- so they played in two 3 game in 3 day tournys to help them prepare. With the AD and Jank not willing to do a 2 for 1 or 1 and none with a BCS school, they HAVE to know that these pre-season tourney's are the only way to get a nice name on the schedule...

There are two games left the schedule... pray to God that they are at least, decent mid-major's...

***Edit- this post is in no way a justification of the sh*t schedule ISU has last year and is appearing to have this year***

I just looked at the reader comments at the end of that article and came across this one......"This schedule while not riveting, has some potential to do us favors with the RPI should Niagara, Utah, and Ohio be solid teams again this year".

I'm left wondering how many isu fans believe isu had anything to do with scheduling Niagara and Utah. As for Ohio being a solid team......really? A team that finished 15-17 with a 184 RPI and lost 54% of their offense is going to be a "solid" team?

While I am sure there are some... I would assume those that follow their team relatively closely would know about the bracket buster and MVC/MWC Challenge games...

Also- the reader comment didn't say anything about ISU having anything to do with scheduling them... just a comment on the schedule as a whole...

And really, when you think about it, teams do have an affect on who they play is those types of game... ISU would not be in position to play Niagara last year/this year if they didn't have a good season going into the BB announcement. Thus, there good showing last season got them a good non-conference game last year... and a seemingly solid return game this year.

The Ohio game on the other hand... completely agree.

Just remember, not all fans are as knowledgeable as those on BF ;-)

The mighty North Florida Ospreys will be visiting redbird arena on November 21.

The Atlantic Sun Conference was ranked #27 out of 31 conferences according to last season's final RealTimeRPI ratings and North Florida finished 10th in that conference with an RPI of 326!

Doesn't look like isu will be doing the Valley any favors at all this year either.

but one of their guys posted right here that once the full schedule is released we'd be very pleasantly surprised....aren't you still waiting?

you don't say?? Their schedule last season was the only one in the Valley that didn't have a single opponent
from a BCS conference and it looks to be a mirror image again this year...
At least Bradley looks for SURE to be playing at least three BCS schools ....
ISU's scheduling is really hurting the entire Valley...I know they'll unload on me for saying so, but even their own guys in some of the posts above agree that's the case.
Who they gonna get for the final few dates they haven't released yet, Lincoln College? ICC?

Looks like it'll be another year at least.

Guess this is what you end up with when you don't "pimp yourselves out to the big boys like Michigan State". Maybe they've been blacklisted from any tournaments as well, or maybe they'd just rather host their own tournament with three cupcakes?

Some of their fans are now claiming it's a "money grab" and a business decision to have more home games. I can't wait to see the attendance figures for those "extra" home games!
