RULE 7
Out of Bounds and
the Throw-in
Section 1. Out of Bounds—Player, Ball
Art. 1.
A player shall be out of bounds when he or she touches the floor or
any object other than a player on or outside a boundary line. An airborne
player’s status shall be where he or she was last in contact with the floor.

Art. 2.
The ball shall be out of bounds when it touches a player who is out of
bounds; any other person, the floor, or any object on or outside a boundary;
the supports or back of the backboard; or the ceiling, overhead equipment
or supports.

Art. 3.
The ball shall be out of bounds when it passes over the backboard

from any direction.

The ball hit off the bottom of the backboard, not the back of the backboard. I think it was the right call, even though the moronic ref said it hit the rim (not really possible). Tough break.

The question is does the bottom of the board constitute being part of the back? Regardless we lost and had a few chances to win. I'm confidant if we have fair refs we can beat ISU on a neutral court, especially if our bigs show up to play.

Is the bottom of you shoe part of the back of your shoe?

I only heard the radio call, but, based on what AE posted, I think it was the right call by the refs.

If I hit you with the my heel wouldn't you say the back of my foot!

Way to call it, Scouter... Since you saw it and all. Always the responsible journalist.

My personal feeling... It was out of bounds. It wasn't called, game goes on. Tough call, still gotta play.

I guess we should hold everyone here up to journalistic standards then...

I heard Snell's call. He -- along with Chuck and Stowell -- said it hit the bottom. Add that in with the rule that was posted in the thread and it sounds to me like it was the right call. You don't necessarily have to see something to be able to form an opinion. Sorry.

If you tout yourself as something, I think it's fair that the universe holds you to those standards. I was listening to the 1470 broadcast and watching the comcast 74 feed on mute, and I combined both sources to make a decision. I like multiple sources. Perhaps you graduated and got a job with Fox News?

So the people who only watched the Comcast broadcast or listened to the radio call shouldn't form an opinion because they only heard what you consider one source?

I'll say it again: Snell's call -- with two other guys agreeing -- said it hit the bottom. The rule was posted that it's out of bounds if it hits the back of the support. Those are two sources of information. How is that not enough information to form an opinion?

(You don't know me too well, so you're clearly not picking up on my sense of humor). I also said it didn't matter. And I don't think there was unity amongst the radio guys that it was the right call. In fact, they said it was not and they were a bit upset about it.

I never said they said it was the right call. I said they agreed it hit the bottom of the backboard. And I hadn't formed an opinion on the situation until I read the rule. You know, so I had my journalistic bases covered.

Next time I can't go to a game, I'll be sure to have the radio and TV broadcasts on at the same time and be on the phone with someone who is at the game. Sheesh.

Good, I appreciate it. I go to you for all my Bradley information needs, so I don't want these seeds of doubt based on the backboard call to be substantiated in any way in the coming days and weeks.

That's difficult to say. Doesn't the heel cover the back and bottom of your foot?

Sandal or shoe?
closed toe or open toed shoe?
Are we talking high top, low top
you need to be more specific Scouter :D

either way, Les was right to freak out at the refs...that was the reaction to MULTIPLE questionable calls (especially on the offensive side of things). TW got fouled probably 3 times on one rebound attempt. Very frustrating :mad::mad:

Ball clearly hit the backboard which is a violation.Yes it did make a difference as BU would have had the ball with 40 seconds to play.

BUConnor: I'd say the coach's shoes today, but that was for a good cause. How about the shoes of an Iraqi JOURNALIST?

What got me is Comsquat NEVER showed the replay...Its not like it was a big play or anything. Hey the ref called it.....so you live with it but its hard to make a call, as a fan, when you can't see the replay.

GREAT game....disappointed but not upset. BOTH team played there hearts out....1-1 split. Would love to see em AT the lou.

I heard the call on the radio...but was DVRing the game. So when I got home I replayed it numerous times and it looked like the ball hit the backside near the bottom...possibly even the support behind the basket. I think it was a bad call, but if we finish inside we win and it would be moot.

I agree with you egib52...The loss really does not upset me as much as I thought it would! What really matters is that this team is improving on a weekly basis. Now if we had some bigs that could hit those bunnies and layups we could be extremely dangerous. I hope our bigs start to improve on the road. They seem to show up at home but when they are on some other floor they seem to regress. I hope a neutral floor doesn't upset their mojo. We will go as far as DC and SS take us IMO and they do not even have to play great for us to be very good just make sure they play even with the other teams big.

Lets face it....almost every game you get a call that sticks out...since this game was so close the backboard play certainly does but THATS basketball. It didn't cost us the game....missed bunnies and poor low post D did.....

Great effort by BU.....no complaints.
