NIT Round 1 - Bradley 74 Loyola 62

Man that 2nd half had me worried....:-o:-o:-o
Great win over a team I hate.....on to the next round baby!:mrgreen::mrgreen:

How fun was THAT? I loved the "MVC" chant at the end. I was happy to see that Indiana State came back to win, and hope Drake makes it an MVC trifecta tomorrow.

We are going to miss Malevy Leons. What an elite defender and player! Probably our best defender since David "The Sheriff" Thirdkill was locking up opponents. Thank you, Malevy, for great memories . . . and keep 'em coming!

Dave Snell said on post game show that a Cincinnati loss means our next game would be at the Coliseum instead of Carver bc there's a rodeo at Carver this weekend. Would be an amazing atmosphere!

Much like Malevy in a game, I think what he did here for the program will never really be fully seen or valued. But he has surely lifted this program. Snell talked about history altering players in the post game, and I'm not comparing him to Hershey, but I believe his presence here over the last 3 years has certainly put Bradley in a more established and consistent position to be successful - more than any other player in the same period. For some reason Malevy is one of those players that tends to go a little bit in noticed, but does so much on the court. I'm very grateful he got to play this extra game at home. Let's see if he can get another home game, and his first at Ren Col!

ALso, the crowd - although smaller - was flat out amazing and the game was a blast to be at.

Bradley is a winning program with 4 post season appearances in the last 5 years. How sweet it is especially after that very tough decade we had to get through.

Can't say better things about Malevy. Also, I am pretty sure that MVC chant got started by a couple class of 09' alumni.

It was a great win, Loyola"s guards got real physical with us in the second half and the refs called it like a true NCAA game. We need to cut down the turnovers in order to win the next game because Hannah and Linke had 7 between them.

That attendance number is a bit hard to swallow. Definitely felt more full, the lower bowl was pretty much full. I remember the NIT home game against Providence was a white out and I am sure it was pretty close to capacity. Sad to see it where it is now, even with a winning program like this the last 4-5 years.

Yea but that's not a Bradley problem. It's just the stature of the tournament. Seton Hall literally played in front of 1500. Our attendance will stand very tall compared to other NIT games.

Great win at home, first post season win at home since 2007 against Providence when I was in school (I don't count CIT). It was a tough game and the BU starters really stepped up and got the job done. We will need more from the bench to keep winning imo.

Being at the game, there was another goal tend that was not called, Loyola knocked it off the back board and the refs didn't call it, imo should have definitely been a goal tend. Additionally, in the second half Loyola was allowed to hack at the BU players non-strop. IMO there should have been around 8 more fouls on Loyola.

All the sudden hand checks were only being called on us.

Definitely not over 5k. I can always tell by the upper bowl centers - they were pretty light tonight. Doesn’t help when most of the upper bowl ticket prices are double the regular price.

The price more then likely hurt attendance as 4 or more upper bowl seats would have cost 88.00 for 4 and 132 for 6. I think at 10.00 they might have sold another 1,000 tickets. For whatever reason fans are not attending these NIT games and that has been true at almost all venues.

Cincinnatti's Simas Lukosius made a 3 pointer with 2 seconds left to give the Bearcats the win. He was a sizzling 8-10 from 3, hopefully he shot his wad in this game. By the way the rest of the team was 3-20 from 3. The Bearcats have a lot of height as they have 4 guys about 7' 0", Lukosius is 6' 8" and 2 other starters at 6' 5" and 6' 6". They are about as physical as Loyola so we better bring it. They have 3 guys who average over 6 rebounds a game (the team averages almost 40). They also take care of the ball as they average just 12 turnovers a game. They shoot 44% overall, 32% from 3 and 69% from 1 and average 75 points a game. If we bring the effort that we brought to the Loyola game there's no reason to expect us not to win. Speaking of the Loyola game my goodness was that 1st half about as good of half of basketball that we've seen from this team this season. Passing was crisp, defense was on point, just a fantastic half of basketball. But you somehow just knew that the Ramblers would make in interesting and sure enough with 6:30 left they had cut it to 2Duke hit a huge 3 on the next possession that seemed to take to win out of Loyola's sail. Malevy had some spectacular moves and finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds, 5 blocks and was a perfect 8-8 from the FT line. Looks we play Cincy at 2:00 on Saturday. Go Braves!

6pm games are never great attendance, and the short notice on buying tickets didn't help either, I'm sure. At least the lower bowl was packed in and the crowd was as engaged as any I've seen at Carver in some time. The MVC chant was glorious and was more than could have been hoped for in welcoming Loyola back.
No Moser
No Krutwig
No problem
:)

FYI - Barring any copyright issues, the game should be available to watch in an hour or so on Youtube (will have it up on Rumble this evening or tomorrow morning if you prefer that platform). If nothing else, look for the alley-oop to Hannah near the end of the game. Probably the longest alley-oop of the year. Man that guy can get up!

Bradley will play Cincinnati in the 2nd round on Saturday, March 23, at 1 pm Central time (2 pm Eastern in Cincinnati).
The game is at Fifth Third Arena on the campus of the University of Cincinnati just north of downtown Cincinnati.
The game will be on ESPN+

Cincinnati beat San Francisco 73-72 in overtime
Box score- https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/boxscore/_/gameId/401641104
Cincinnati outscored USF 6-5 in a low scoring overtime period. It was tied 67-67 at the end of regulation, and USF had a 72-70 lead in OT until Cincinnati's Simas Lukosius made a 3-point shot with 4 seconds left to win 73-70.

The attendance in the Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati was 3,899.
The capacity is 12,000. Their average attendance this season, prior to last night's NIT game was 10,193

I hope there were some recruits watching the game. They saw the players having fun and heard the crowd cheering them on. What a great scene that was. The players running thru the crowd and the people embracing them. That's how we support our team. It would be a great recruiting video
