Who out of the two has a bigger upside? I'll tell you this the first half of play Bell looked like a freshman. He has to work on his passing game. He does have a knack in getting the ball through the hoop. If he can slow it down a bit and limit turnovers he'll be an asset. JC on the other hand has a bigger ceiling. He's bigger and more athletic then Bell. If he works hard this summer in the gym and starts to let the game come to him he could be a very good Valley player.
Both these guys have potential, and both have not really met fans' expectations...yet.
I like Bell's confidence - he doesn't get rattled after a mistake like Crawford seems to, and attacks the rim and takes contact.
He is a good ball-handler, and just needs to make smarter decisions in passing around the perimeter. He's just a freshman, but he's got the tools to being a D. Ruffin-type player, minus the speed burst. Just watch.
The problem, as has been alluded to by DC I think, is that he will spend a lot of time at the 2, and there will be much competition for that spot next season. But I also think he can spell Field for 5-8 min. per game at the 1, and move Walt to the 2 permanently.
Crawford has a nice-looking shot from outside, but he is a rhythm shooter - he may be thinking that if he misses a couple in a row, he may see the bench - not sure if that's why he's inconsistent.
It's exciting to think that if these 2 guys can improve over the off-season and provide quality minutes off the bench next year, we will have much depth at the guard spot:
Fields, Bell
Grier, Crawford, Lemon
(not to mention our freshmen newcomers - I kind of hope that 1 of them red-shirts next season to develop and get more P.T. in the years to come, as next year, minutes may be hard to come by)
Not about to bring up our bigs, but we really need one to come in and contribute next year to increase our chances of improving upon this season.
