Next Year's Intro Video

I'm all for that Houston. I'd like to see it like at the Fieldhouse. Turn out the lights and as each player is introduced put the spotlight on him as he runs to center court. The fieldhouse used to rock and so would the civic center.

I'm with Houston and Chico on this one! The fight song still gets me going and the focus would be where it should be on the players. This is college ball not the NBA or the WWE for that fact. I also believe that the fanatical students should have seats with "our, um, older and whiter crowd", to get them going throughout the game.;-)

If it wasn't for our, um, older and whiter crowd we wouldn't be talking about a video scoreboard.

Chico - no need to get bent out of shape, pal - I was simply acknowledging the demographic make up of our crowd.

It wasn't meant to be a knock...and I'm not sure why you took it that way. I was actually trying to say we should give the crowd more of what they want - not necessarily what the group of 13-15 college kids (on the team) want.

Crowd gets pumped up it won't matter to the team what song gets played pregame.

I didn't take it as a knock, pal. I was just acknowledging the fact that we are lucky to have such a fan base.

We all might be taking this intro video too seriously......

I do vote for HH sending a message to the crowd at the end.....like LB does to the ISU blue fans....their intro video gets me excited!

Students can always have a team, but no sense having one if others didn't pay to watch.

I dont post much but wow, I really had to comment on this one....

No sense in having a team if people dont pay to watch? Well we should rid of 90% of all other college sports, especially at the division 2 and 3 levels, sorry to thousands of student athletes in track, tennis, swimming, and volleyball that do it for the love of the game, theres just no sense in you performing:roll:.

I know that was extremely off topic, but the whole thing, no matter how you do it, with lights, a video, or with the fight song, is all directed to motivate players and fans accordingly; to perform and to get excited, respectively.

Now, Whether you want to do it like the 1990's bulls with the bulls running down the loop, with the theme song playing, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYFlzJyxWlw)
or, if you want to do it without utilizing technology the choice is yours.

Just remember that when you are the home team, you should use every spect of the game, even if it means giving away free beer to your opponents fans, to put the leverage on your side. That 1997 Bulls team went 72-10, maybe the intro heped them out with those back to back 39-2 home records, I dunno, maybe they would have only been 38-3 if the intro was lame, we dont know.

The fact of the matter is, I believe we should always utilize technology to make everything about the home-game experience better because it simply cannot hurt. I am all for tradition, (gotta love the cubbies), but look where organs have gotten them, where as on the southside, fireworks and a new park may have contributed to the 2005 world championship.(A stretch I know, but you can see what I am getting at!)

I remember my glody days of 6th grade basketball running around the court to the sound of "who let the dogs out" with the faithful wildcats banging on our balcony. Call me weird, crazy, or whatever, but I feel it was simply more fun.

Thank you! I'm glad some people are on the same page with me that these kids are actually here for more than our amusement, however inconvenient that may be. If you want a team to owe you something, watch pro sports. These guys are amateurs, and 18-22 yr olds, the purpose of everything the university does is (should be) to serve the students (those who are on the court and off).

Everything they do should be to provide a chance at a great education... not entertain them! These student athletes get a lot from their time on campus.. and the students have a much better chance of seeing a game than the average Peorian- and hardly any take advantage of it....

Wow how I disagree with your statement. It is about the whole college experience which #1 consists of the best education you can can get but the other aspects of a college experience consists of the social dynamics which the camaraderie of those sporting events can help cement. The question is are the students not taking advantage of the offering or is the experience perhaps not to their liking or not up to par of their expectations. Like I have said we have had our time and its up to them to have their experience as they see fit. We use to be able to have kegs in our Frats and now you can't even open a can with under age drinkers around??? Life is all about experiences and memories and just maybe the way we would like them to react is differently then we would but then again most things are a bit different.

If you read this board, I would hope you know we usally are talking about basketball, not tennis, swimming, etc. Where would Bradley basketball be without "crowds". Even though there is no bigger Sox fan than me, I doubt if any video can help a baseball player perform better. 2005 was simply their year. All the videos the next year didn't help much. I know how you feel about your 6th grade music. I know I'm dating myself, but we used to love to practice while they played "Rags to Riches".

Where did I say it was to entertain them? I said it was to serve them. And if you one of those people who thinks education happens primarily in the classroom, I couldn't disagree with you more. I was a very good student, but I can tell you now that I learned far more and took more away from my experiences as an RA, as a president of organizations, and going to basketball games, than I did in differential equations, and I use those things I learned outside of the classroom quite a bit more too. And despite what many on here believe, a large number of students are busier than us alum(at least me and my friends were, and for comparison I work 60 a week with and hour total commute each day). While this is simply about a video, the underlying question should be first 'How does this serve the students?' A distant 2nd 'How does this serve alumni?' and then a miniscule third can be 'How does this serve everyone else?.' Now sometimes these decisions can be intertwined, as in serving alum helps the current students, but a modern video isn't going to drive away 'the blue hairs' and it will create a better, more exciting experience for students. So someone tell me again why we wouldn't do that?

I would guess I am a tweener- graduated about 24 years ago- but not quite a blue hair yet...
I don't see how a video creates a more exciting experience... just wish they had a better intro... BU has long had a problem with student indifference at sporting events.. Basketball included... I would be interested in knowing how many attend events regularly.. softball, baseball, volleyball- all are poorly attended by students- and they are withing walking distance from campus...

Don't kid yourself about being a tweener! ;-) The student body would lump you closer to the blue hairs then you would like. Me included!

After seconds upon seconds of searching my brain, here is what Big Lance has come up with as far as a video introduction to get the crowd fired up before the game. Envision this:

Turn off all the lights, scoreboard is black
Begin playing O Fortuna by Carl Orff
Instantly, a glamor shot of John Wilkins appears on the new scoreboard
Fade that into a laughing Reggie Redbird (of course he's just miming a laugh, you can't hear him over the rockin' O Fortuna and cascading boos)
Splice in very quick, nearly subliminal shots of Coach Mo, Mike Vandegard, Dan Muller, the stolen bobcat and maybe Coleco Buie's game winner at the Valley tournament.
Show the scared, despondent faces of the BU players on the bench with Coach Les and the new assistant coaches 25 feet away drawing up basketball gold on the clipboard
Show Jimmy emphatically imploring the boys to overcome and take this program to the next level
Then as the music nears the end of the song (where it starts sounding like victory) show about 8-10 rapid fire dunks, then the players running up into the crowd at the NCAA tournament, then have all the current players holding up the NCAA regional nets with the words "next stop: The Final Four" at the very end. This should get the crowd pumped up.

If this somehow does not work, then I have devised a surefire Plan B:

Play "In the Mood" by Glenn Miller
Show a live video feed from the club room where the heavies are getting their beers
Finish with video clips of quickchange's 47th annual appearance
