New NCAA rules on exhibition games

Ooops….
After getting convincingly beaten by Lithuania’s “B” team, now there’s a report that Arizona’s head coach does not want to play their Senior National Team this Saturday and instead wants to substitute the “B” team

Just like trying to schedule a bigger team here in the country. They wont play a team that they think might beat them.

if you read some of the Arizona media reports, they are pretty shocked and bummed that they got so easily manhanled by a bunch of no-names from theLithuanian taxi squad, when they all thought this first game against the "B" team was going to be an easy warmup for the two bigger games to follow. I read a few fan comments- and as expected it's all about how our guys were playing injured and the refs weren't fair,,,LOL.
(hint, the actual number of fouls was exactly the same on both teams and FT attempts were close to equal, while Arizona played their starters mid-season minutes - 133 min total, while Lithuania spread the playing time out and subs played almost half the game)
If they do, that just sets the tone of this team and coaching staff IMO. Quit or look for easy way out when the going gets tough. What a joke.

Arizona played a much weaker opponent today, the Ukrainian National Team, who have never really been highly competetive
internationally like the Lithuanians always are. Ukraine's only familiar player is Maxim Klitschko, (he is the son of an international boxing legend) who plays for East Carolina University.
Arizona beat the Ukrainian team 107-85,
But check the stats-
Arizona played their key players 30-34 minutes or so, while Ukraine played their starters 14-20 min and liberally played a bunch of subs as many minutes as the starters played like you'f do in a friendly exhibition....and yet this was still just a 12 point game in the 4th quarter.
So, I didn't watch but I get the feeling the Arizona coaching staff was going for the statement in this game and did not play it like an
exhibition ---- more like a post-season tournament game.

On paper, Arizona is still scheduled to meet the Senior National Team of Lithuania Saturday, but there's a
strong suspicion that it instead will be the B Team again like the Arizona coach suggested.

Foreign exhibition games today...
Central Michigan loses again- 61-57 in overtime to Ontario Tech University
CMU appears to be gonna have offensive struggles. They managed just 18 1st half points and shot just 27% overall & had 22 TO.
They lost their last game to Toronto Metro Univ 92-71 so they go just 1-2 on their exhibition tour to Canada.

Oakland beat Windsor Univ today in Canada - 85-72, so DI's are now 70-6.

....8/22 Arizona in Lithuania vs Lithuania Senior National Team 10:30am Central - STREAMING, .....
f you're hungry for college basketball, this should be a pretty good game to watch.
The Lithuanian National team is always one of the top teams in the world- they are always in the Top 10 of the FIBA world rankings
Arizona plays Lithuania today on their Foreign Exhibition tour.

ONE MORE NOTE- The Lithuanian team's best player Azuolas Tubelis, averaging 18.3ppg in international play, is reportedly out
with an ankle injury. Lithuania still has plenty of talent tho, as almost many on their roster have NBA experience, including
ex-Illini Kasparas Jakucionis & the Chicago Bulls' Matas Buzelis.

There's still lingering rumors that the Lithuanian "B" Team will step in at the last minute because the Arizona people
do not want to get clobbered. But for now, it is still slated to be their top National Team.

Here's the link to the YouTube stream - and LIVE STATS

Ha- see above....
This is NOT the Lithuanian National Team...
Tubelis out... NOT ONE of the top 10 guys from their National Team are playing.
Former Ilini & now Milw Buck Jacucionis isn't playing, Rockets' Valanciunas isn't playing, nor Bulls' Buzelis...... none of their 1st stringers.

This team is the B Team from a couple days ago, incl Repsys, & UIC's Modestas Kancleris

So they did pull a switcheroo - they subbed in their B Team

..game has been close in the 1st half, then Arizona pulled out to a double digit lead.
Lithuania played a lot of minutes with subs- Arizona as before is going deep with starters.
******************

Update: Arizona comes out on top 88-74...
Arizona went full tilt, played starters 36-39 of 40 min, Lithuania played like an exhibition, spreading the playing time- just one guy more than 23 min.
Arizona was led by their European guys- Ivan Kharchenkov (Russian/German) 30pts, and Lithuanians Motiejus Krivas had 15 & Ugnius Jaruševičius had 14.
Makes sense they spent $200K to go to Lithuania- it'll undoubtedly help future recruiting.
********************
also, other foreign exhibition games today
Oregon State beat Univ of Victoria 92-88 &
Oakland just beat the Toronto All-Stars
79-65, DI's 73-6
