New NCAA rules on exhibition games

In May, NCAA changed the rules for DI exhibition games.

Now, any DI can schedule any other DI, DII or other for an exhibition game, and they can hold it openly and not need a waiver, as before.
And, get this, now any DI school can schedule up to THREE preseason exhibition games and charge admission.
WILL BRADLEY take advantage? I see no reason not to if you can charge admission and make it a revenue generating event.
Especially if you can host any school, even DI's... Maybe Green Bay, SIUE, WIU, or some nearby non-DI's.

And they are allowed to take a foreign preseason tour and play exhibition games EACH YEAR, instead of every four years.

One more change- as many as SIX different coaching staff members can do off-campus recruiting, and as many as four at any one time,
and they now allow high school freshmen to take campus visits.

I would certainly take advantage of this and get 3 exhibitions scheduled . Playing these at the RC and charging 10 dollars a ticket would add revenue . Forget about renting Carver for Exb. games simply because too many season ticket holders could care less about games that do not count.
 
No reason not to do it, and if a pre-season foreign tour is viable in the athletic budget, those should be utilized every year as well. Especially with essentially brand new roster construction every year, the players need time and experience to get to know each other and bond.
 
Illinois vs Bradley at the civic center 50 dollars a ticket. I am sure people would go. Why not use something like that as a fundraiser for the NIL. If that’s possible.

Well, there obviously is one big reason NOT to do it....

There used to be several dozen DI teams taking foreign tours each summer - even DII teams did it.

Yet- here we are with NCAA now allowing teams to take a foreign tour EVERY year and yet almost NO teams among the 364
Division I teams are doing it. I can find maybe just seven teams doing it this year.... lmk if I missed anyone.

... And the only three schools I can find who are taking a true "foreign tours" & playing summer exhibition games overseas are ones that have massive budgets.... Arizona, Michigan, Clemson.

In a little twist on an exhibition tour, Indiana is playing as the US representative in a FIBA sanctioned event in Peru,
playing only a single game on July 15.

A couple of other college teams are going no further than Canada (PURDUE) or the Bahamas (VALPO, Cincinnati, Arkansas).

There is one other foreign game (actually a men's/women's doubleheader) but it is NOT an exhibition game. It is a regular season non-conference game that Villanova and Notre Dame have scheduled for November 1, 2026 in Rome- LINK

It's likely because any dime spent going to Europe or Australia for a tour could land a better player from the portal.

To bad Bradley could not get something going even if locally. What with all the new guys it would be a good way to get the guys meshing together

I wish there was more summer exhibition action, but the few teams who will be playing are already getting ready.
Louisville was just added as a team playing in the Bahamas - July 28 & 29 - LINK

One of Indiana’s players will be ineligible because they are playing in Peru as “Team USA”, and the he’s from Turkey.

It does not appear there are any links for streaming or live stats. The games later in Peru are expected to be streamed.
Tonight they play Montreal Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, who were the National Collegiate Champions in Canada in 2025-26 - LINK

Indiana's roster this year under Head Coach Darian DeVries is quite different - no more Tucker DeVries, Conor Enright or Lamar Wilkerson.
There's a lot of new names but a couple are slightly familiar. Trent Sisley is the younger brother of former Evansville Ace Blake Sisley,
and IU (LINK) sophomore Ben Winker was recruited by Bradley and made an official visit to Bradley in 2023.
Some think DeVries' roster rebuild is weak.


AND- Murray State is going to Europe (France) the 2nd week of August - LINK
Details and exact dates & opponents are still pending, and oddly there has yet to be any official statement whatsoever from Murray State,
just this one media report. This is the 2nd consecutive year they have done a summer exhibition tour.
They went to the Bahamas last year.
BTW- Murray State's head coach Ryan Miller gives this answer for why they had such a great start last yr then bombed out down the stretch...
"This year, we’re changing our identity … to defense. Our big thing (last year) is we won games playing offense.
You win championships with defense in our conference and one reason we didn’t win the championship last year is
we weren’t tough enough and didn’t play good enough defense"

Final update-
Indiana wins this summer's first exhibition game, 98-64. 40 of their 74 shots were 3-pt attempts, including a barrage in the final 5 minutes
even tho the game was already a 25+ pt blowout - hitting 27.5% overall.

I might have been interested more in last year's team since they had a few Valley guys (DeVries, Enright, Drew Adams, Nick Norton)

Also - note that the schedule for Clemson's games in Italy shows that one of the teams they are playing will be
Orange Bassano, which is Timoty van der Knaap's old club team in Italy! They are proud of him

Indiana plays the semifinal vs Chile today at 2pm Central Time - LINK

The game is being played at a Vancouver, British Columbia college named Langara College.

Oklahoma State plays tomorrow at 7pm Central vs Puerto Rico Fuerza in San Juan.

Then, Monday Oklahoma State faces Puerto Rico Fuerza again, 7pm, then at 7pm Wednesday vs LBP All-Stars.
