One of Bradley's assistants might be a candidate for an open position elsewhere....

Bradley's assistant Troy Pierce takes assistant spot under Brian Barone at SIUE
..nice to see the Brian Wardle coaching tree flourishing...

We correctly predicted on May 3 that there would be news of a member of the Bradley staff leaving to take a coaching job at another D1 school, and on May 10, it was announced that Troy Pierce was leaving to become Assistant Coach at SIUE. Congratulations Coach Pierce!

We have no news yet to report who may fill the open position left by Coach Pierce's departure to SIUE.

But we are still hearing that there is a possibility that one other member of the Bradley staff could be on the move, too.
We can't give any further info at this time, but whatever happens, good luck Coach!

rumored that Michigan threw as much as $6 mil per year to true to lure Providence's Ed Cooley but
Cooley just withdrew his name after Providence gave him a big raise & extension

edit - breaking news that Juwan Howard (Miami Heat assistant) is about to be named as new Michigan head coach to replace John Beilein

A Fox Sports reporter in Philadelphia reports that former long-time St. Joseph's head coach Phil Martelli, who was recently firedby their new AD "will soon be announced as the new coach at another college outside the Philly area".-

Hard to say what that means, but for the record, there is only one Division I school whose head coaching job is still open- University of North Dakota. So he's probably looking at an assistant coaching position.
It is also possible Martelli might move to a Division II or lower level school.
Martelli's long-time assistant coach Dave Duda was just named Athletic Director at Division III Delaware Valley University, but they do not have an opening there for basketball coach.-

It was also just reported that North Dakota is close to announcing their new head coach.

so the Philly reporter hints that he knows where Martelli is headed but is not gonna tell us..... why?
Is he sworn to secrecy? Is it because he's friends with Martelli? Or maybe has loyalties to whatever school? Or because he's just guessing ?

btw - there's already a possible start to the 2019-2020 Coaching Carousel..
Idaho head basketball coach DON VERLIN has been placed on administrative leave pending further investigations into possible NCAA violations...
https://www.spokesman.com/stories/20...administrativ/

The violations seem minor and he will probably be reinstated but ...
" ....the leave could be shortened or extended ... and it might result in Verlin being fired.
....All options are on the table"

...
Stony Brook - Jeff Boals left to take Ohio - Geno Ford HIRED

Way back when he was at Bradley someone asked Geno at one of those community events if he would ever start up
a Twitter account and begin tweeting - and Geno indicated it wasn't his thing...

BUT -- Geno has emerged from the dark ages and is now Tweeting!!
https://twitter.com/SB_CoachFord

let's give him a bunch of followers!

Now there are reports saying Martelli has accepted an assistant coaching position on the Michigan Staff under new head coach Juwan Howard. Still no official announcement..

If I recall, Paul Sather was a star on the Northern State team that Dave Darnall's Eureka College team defeated for the NAIA Div 2 National Championship in 1994.

Yes, good memory.
Here is a bit more about Paul Sather, with a mention that he played on the Northern State teams from 1990-94 and starred on the 1992-93 and 1993-94 teams which both finished runner-up in the NAIA Tournament-

now we definitely have a start to the 2019-2020 Coaching Carousel...
Northern Arizona University of the Big Sky Conference - head coach Jack Murphy leaves to take assistant spot at Arizona - Shane Burcar is Interim head coach

speaking of which... Milik Yarbrough had a court date yesterday for that last arrest ....
update - pretrial hearing set for June 3

It's a pretty good bet that MY won't be there in McLean County and will miss his court date today...

"The Boston Celtics announced they will work out the following players today:
Admiral Schofield - Tennessee
Jason Burnell - Jacksonville St
Jordan Bone - Tennessee
Milik Yarbrough - Illinois St
Oshae Brissett - Syracuse
Ty Jerome - Virginia"

https://twitter.com/KeithSmithNBA/st...45816788217858

Several players with MVC connections on that list of players working out today for the Celtics.....

Admiral Schofield played at Tennessee, but was a high school teammate with Milik Yarbrough at Zion-Benton Township High School in Zion, Illinois.
Jordan Bone, who also played at Tennessee, is the younger brother of Josh Bone, who played his freshman and sophomore years at SIU before transferring and playing his final 2 seasons at Tennessee.

Also, Jason Burnell averaged a team-leading 17.9 ppg for Jacksonville State this past season. JSU played at Bradley back on Nov. 14, 2018, and Bradley held him to just 1 basket and a total of 5 points, his lowest scoring output of the entire season.

as expected, Yarbrough's lawyers asked for yet another continuance til June 27 for his Sept. 2018 arrest -
but paired with this case also is the Petition to Revoke his Supervision on the separate May 2018 Reckless Conduct
case for beating up his 18 year old girlfriend, and he will have to face sentencing on that case as well since he violated
the supervision with his September arrest.

Indiana State reportedly fills their final open assistant coaching spot with a guy who was an assistant at Indiana State 17 years ago...
Evansville 12 years ago and Drake 8 years ago

Kareem Richardson - who was just fired as head coach at UMKC the past 6 seasons (75-118 )

as expected, Yarbrough's lawyers asked for yet another continuance til June 27...
Yarbrough gets off incredibly easy....but then he's used to it since Muller never disciplined him.
He pleads guilty to the charges and gets a really generous judge who gives him one year of supervision, 20 hours of community service and a fine/costs of $1000.

Kind of amazing that he violated his supervision with another crime but still gets supervision.
Gotta wonder if any kid of mine would have gotten off so easy especially if they had a loooong rap sheet with numerous violations, DUI's, beating up girlfriends and skipping court dates- requiring deputies to serve a warrant, handcuff, then drag to jail....

He will have a hearing Nov. 1 but look for him to skip that .
