Does anyone know Barry Hinson's story this past year at SIU? Did Barry irreparably burn bridges in Carbondale ?

I don't think so - but a significant segment of the fan base grew impatient and wanted him out - but he kept winning, finishing in the top 2 or 3 and even won the MVC Coach of the Year in 2016! Hinson even finished a very close 3rd in Coach of the Year LAST YEAR!!!! - LINK

Plenty of fans still wanted to fire Barry last year but they were in the midst of lots of other serious turmoil & financial messes

Especially read this thread from last spring
https://www.bradleyfans.com/forum/sp...turmoil-at-siu

Finally enough big money fans/donors started to pull their support/donations that the admin had no choice.

Thank you Tornado.... They (the SIU fans and big donors) will be sorry. SIU fans were spoiled from 2001 through the Spring of 2007 - they tasted the spoils of consistently being in the NCAA tournament - With the exception of one year (2006 - finished 2nd) - SIU finished 1st. And then something happened during beloved Chris Lowrey's final 4 years and SIU has not been the same since. Since taking over, Barry was inching his SIU team back up the MVC ranks. They'll miss Barry and realize this next season and for seasons to come. I look forward to learn who replaces Barry Hinson.

heck - Chris Lowery is one of the top assistants at a VERY successful BIG 12 CHAMPION Kansas State program

Sydney Johnson of Princeton was not just mentioned as a candidate for the Bradley job in 2011, he was one of many candidates who were offered the job with what would have been a big raise over his salary at Princeton then. However, he turned down the offer and chose to stay at Princeton for some reason. ;)

the ValleyHoops guy put out 3 names for the SIU job
but two of them are failed former coaches of SIU (Lowery,Korn)

..but why not Jerrance?? ...and hopefully this time around if Jerrance's name is mentioned Kirk Wessler won't write a hit piece about him.

(so far almost no big programs except UCLA - so no worry yet about BW's name being brought up...)

SIU Athletic Director Jerry Kill press conference today in which he discusses ... the search for their next coach-...

LOL - sounds like he takes a little dig at other ADs - ...."I'm not going to interview 14 people"..."We're not going to be a Division II program"...

The first big school opening since Steve Alford was fired at UCLA....

Texas A&M reportedly fires Billy Kennedy - https://twitter.com/HoustonChron/sta...91470835318785

he had only ONE losing season since 2012 but unfortunately it was this year
but just last year he went to the Sweet 16 and also was Sweet 16 in 2016.
Since 2003 (SELa, Murray State, & Texas A&M) he'd averaged 21 wins per year thru 2018 - pretty impressive!

If I am SIU this is the guy I would make a run at.

Jon Harris was hired at SIUE in 2015 (same time as Brian Wardle) and was signed to a 4-year contract. (LINK)
SIUE is likely one of the 10-20 worst DI schools to recruit to and win at - doubtful even Rick Pitino coulda turned that team around any better...

...but that means even by his 2nd season he was out there trying to recruit with only a short term on his existing contract
and the entire LAST YEAR he was trying to function with ZERO SECURITY and zero years ahead on his contract - a situation that makes any potential recruit pretty shaky about committing to play four more years into the future. In other words - what the hell did SIUE expect by giving Harris such a crappy deal?

None the less - they still tied for 7th in a 12-team conference and barely missed knocking off the higher seed in the 1st round.
Harris took over a disaster of a program in 2015 that hadn't had a winning season since fully moving to DI...
and Harris was steadily increasing his win total (in a gradually improving conference with VERY good teams like Belmont, Murray State, etc...)
- keeping in mind that in Lennox Forrester's 4th season there, he won only 8 games yet was given FOUR MORE years by SIUE.

Just my two cents but I think Harris got a raw deal and wasn't given enough time. Remember - Porter Moser was canned after four years at ISU - now many ISU fans look at Porter (Coach of the Year awards and a Final Four) and wonder what might have been....
