New Bradley commit- 6'9" Xzavier Taylor

As several have said, it is good to see Chicago players considering Bradley and some select Bradley. Hopefully Ford and Coleman can keep the interest in Bradley alive in Chicago.

Got the chance to watch him play in Peoria. I think he is raw and a little clumsy. I think he will develop into a very nice player for Bradley. A redshirt year would help him tremendously. He could put on strength and work on his coordination. Good to see Bradley get back into Chicago.

If he can defend, block a few shots and rebound he will get minutes starting next year. As his offensive skills develope he will gain more minutes. I see nothing but positives from this for BU going forward.

we've had some pretty "raw" athletes here before and some have panned out great (Zach Andrews, Jerome Robinson, Chris Roberts", POB..)
Others maybe not so - but I am hopeful he can work hard & be a great player...

To your point, I think that Nate Wells' role just became much larger. Nate may never be a great player, but he could be a good mentor for X when it comes to helping with the Xs and Os (no pun intended). and some of the mental aspects of the game. It won't hurt to have a 7'1" body leaning on you in practice every day either.

p.s. this isn't the first raw 6'9" guy nicknamed X that we've had on the hilltop!

nobody seems to ever mention his stats as a senior...here they are......
he was on a team with five double-digit scorers so he might have had to work awfully hard to get his points from rebs, loose balls, & putbacks

He was listed as 6-9 F/C, 225lb on the Morgan Park roster
played 30 games, 113-213 overall (53%)
He did not attempt a 3-pointer
He was a less-than-stellar 30-90 (33.3%) on Free Throws.
He averaged 8.3 ppg, 10 rpg & 2 apg

there are also a lot of other highlights found if you search under slight variants of his name- (#44)

he got considerably better as the season progressed...played some of his best in the games at Carver Arena

-in the 21-pt win over Limestone, he was 4-7 including a couple short jumpers, and had 10 pts, 8 rebs (incl. 4 offensive), a block and no turnovers in just 12 minutes.
His 12 minutes off the bench was the most for any of the seven subs Morgan Park used.

-in the 15-pt Championship win over Cahokia, he had a similar game - 21 very productive minutes off the bench, played more than all but two of the starters,
went 4-8, and hit 3 of 4 FT, ended with 11 pts, 12 rebs (7 of which were offensive!) - and no turnovers.

The Dave Reynolds article does not give any statistics from his high school games. But another source reports he averaged a little over 8 points per game as a senior, 7th highest scoring average on his team.

just to show how desperate schools are to land big men no matter what their stats are...

Western Michigan just used their Darius Paul scholarship to sign Mario Matasovic - a kid who was averaging 2.1 ppg & 1.3 rebs per game in high school!
He's only been in the US for one year and the most he ever scored in any game ever even when he was playing lower level club ball in Croatia - is 13 pts.

that is nice that we have a little size...still need that 6-10+ guy .. ;)
and btw- Happy Birthday Jordan Swopshire

Of the new recruits who are you most excited to see play at Bradley and why?

For me its Swopshire, I think he will contribute right away and I think he will be all MVC by his JR year. Very excited to see him play!

I also think Swopshire will be a really good player or Bradley before he leaves. He is very agile for his size and has a nice outside shot. But also think taylor will be something special

very few freshmen are ready "right away" so be patient if it takes a little longer but he's a talented athlete and has a ton of potential

Where's the XT LOI?
no word yet but he's not likely to go elsewhere yet unless he turns out to be ineligible and has to go juco or elsewhere - since he's Class of 2013 and the signing period ends tomorrow....I expect we will get a LOI
