More Police Reports in College Basketball

Police in Stillwater, Oklahoma have arrested outstanding Oklahoma State Freshman, Keith Brumbaugh for shoplifting.
Brumbaugh was POY in Florida put his name in the NBA draft, then withdrew his name and chose to attend OSU. His senior year in HS he averaged over 30 ppg, and was eagerly anticipated by coach Eddie Sutton.

Stillwater Police arrested an Oklahoma State basketball player for shoplifting at Wal-Mart.

Keith Franklin Brumbaugh, 18, was arrested last Saturday, Stillwater Police Chief Norman McNickle said.

Wal-Mart employees said they saw Brumbaugh leave the store without paying for some items, he said. The value of the goods was $42.03.

Brumbaugh was cooperative with police, McNickle said, adding the case will be handled in municipal court."

Ever wonder what ever happens to these recruits who are seemingly getting in deep, deep trouble with the law all the time??

Here are a couple of answers, as exemplified by Keith Brumbaugh....


First.....you still get recruited by Bob Huggins, Ritchie McKay, or Eddie Sutton even if you are headed down a path towards a lengthy jail stay. Somehow character is a distant 2nd place to scoring ability in these coaches' minds.

Second, as in the case of Brumbaugh, you just can't seem to break that old habit of stealing what belongs to others, and blowing the he** out of any chance you ever had of playing basketball.

It's been a while, but here's some updated news on Keith Brumbaugh.
He's staying out of trouble, playing at Chipola with Jamarcus Ellis this season.

well, his good behavior streak just ended.
Keith Brumbaugh, as highly talented as he was, got introuble again and was kicked off the team at Chipola.

By the way, a couple of his Chipola teammates are in the news...
Jamarcus Ellis from Chicago Westinghouse is committed to Indiana where he will team with Eric Gordon next year.
Another Westinghouse kid, DeAndre Thomas, who decommitted from Missouri and went to Chiploa, had a monster weeked at the "Tallahassee Jamboree" and was named the top performer there.

after reading all these police reports being listed it made me wonder. is the pct. of college students on a whole, incidents higher or lower than the student athlete?

In otherwords if took all the ncaa division I athletes what pct. do you think has trouble with the law, compared to the entire student population?

I read one time that 44% of all the players in the nfl had felony convictions and/or on some kinda porbation. alarming.

way way more, as the news reports support.
I think the feeling of being "priviledged" and "BMOC" are the reasons.
The athletes from lesser sports (tennis, swimming, etc.) are almost never involved in such problems as I pointed out once before in a post.
