More bad news for the Illini

One of their only reliable big guys Leron Black might be out of commission for a while..although he hasn't played much recently due to injury..
In fact - in view of a brand new AD - I'd have to think the guy's time at U of I is already over

arrested for a late Thursday nite act of pulling a knife on a bouncer at an Urbana night club
http://www.news-gazette.com/news/local/2016-02-19/ui-basketball-player-arrested.html

"arrested for aggravated assault, a felony, after he allegedly threatened a security employee of the Canopy Club, 708 Goodwin"
"..will file a charge of aggravated assault against Black, a Class 4 felony based on the fact that he had a knife and that
the victim was a private security officer. Penalties upon conviction range from probation to 1-3 years in prison."

yeah - those clubs in Champaign-Urbana never have underage students in them...

....in all fairness - it is a private club that does occasionally host events, that like restaurants or Bradley games at the Civic Center, allow people under 21 admittance
http://www.news-gazette.com/news/lo...ses-limits-canopy-club-during-unofficial.html
http://www.theuntz.com/events/carnage-at-canopy-club/
http://canopyclub.com/terms-of-use/

they allow underage people in most on-campus or near-campus venues and explain their logic as saying they'd rather keep the 18-21 year olds
on campus in a supervised public setting than to force them to go off campus to private drinking parties.
"...closing off bars to 19- and 20-year-olds on a college campus will push students
to drink at off-campus private parties that can't be supervised or regulated the way bars are."

the official comment from Illinois is the same silly garbage...
"we are aware of the situation" and "will await the outcome of the legal process"...

OMG - what further info are we gonna get that would cancel the idea that this guy has to go?
Didn't they learn this same terrible lesson multiple times with Jamar Smith, Alex Legion, Darius Paul (and even Aaron Cosby & Rayvonte Rice last year) and others - letting them back on the team over and over after DUI's and bar brawls until the last straw?

I know the Illini are hurting but did anyone watch that game last night vs. Indiana?
They really hurt themselves with horrible shot selection...every player taking Stephen Curry-like circus shots endlessly

and did anyone else watch and see how the two broadcasters tried endlessly to make the entire 2-hour broadcast all about themselves - literally drowning out the game with their silly banter and talk about themselves.. (Dakich & Greenberg)

Uh oh - more potential devastating bad news for Illini

starter & key player Jaylon Tate arrested for domestic battery

DOMESTIC BATTERY

Court Date: 03/13/2016 at 10:30:00

multiple serious arrests - Rayvonte Rice, Darius Paul, Leron Black, now Tate - has it reached the "RENEGADE" point yet?
When a tiny fraction of this much serious trouble was happening in Peoria, they called for JL to be fired. Will they do same now or defend the coach?

same thing - hit his "girlfriend"...

they need chaperones...
either that or stop recruiting the same types of players...it's been a revolving door since Jereme Richmond

once again - we see a scolding coming from the head coach telling all of us to pipe down and not rush to judge..
https://twitter.com/DPiperScout/status/710627630773436416

but seriously - didn't the media tell us when it happened here that women don't make this stuff up - that there has to be some truth to it because women would never lie about this stuff

Anyway - with all that's gone on - even if Nunn gets off scott-free - then he's guilty of putting himself into this situation with his own irresponsible actions and thus severely hurting the team & the program

Rice, Cosby, Paul (twice- actually 3 times), Black, Tate, Nunn, seriously - this is a pattern now - not an isolated incident...closing in on double-digit player arrests for serious issues in just the past year or two...

One of their only reliable big guys Leron Black might be out of commission for a while......

arrested for a late Thursday nite act of pulling a knife on a bouncer at an Urbana night club..

the internal verdict is in on Leron Black...Coach John Groce will suspend him at the beginning of next season for their exhibitions and the first four regular season games.
http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bas...ois-fighting-illini-sit-4-games-2-exhibitions

the PJS has a little trouble with their math as they report the same story but when they add all the games together for their headline they state:
"will sit out seven games"

0125_1.png

so for pulling a knife in a bar and threatening to stab a guy, he will miss the same number of regular season games as WE did for taking a Vicodin.

Of the three Illini players with major court cases pending...

Leron Black - plead guilty to misdemeanor aggravated assault and will get probation & return to play after 7 game suspension.

Jaylon Tate - a couple days ago plead not guilty to charges of striking his girlfriend, so the case proceeds and may go to trial. No team discipline yet determined.

Kendrick Nunn - today plead guilty to misdemeanor battery in a plea deal that will get him "unsupervised probation" for an 18 month span plus 100 hours of community service. No team discipline yet determined.

Jaylon Tate & Leron Black reinstated, but Kendrick Nunn dismissed
..interesting, since all three caused by their willful actions severe embarrassment to the University & team....and they knew the facts almost 2 and a half months ago --

..some speculation by their fans that this could signal getting a grad transfer like (hopefully) Alec Peters... ;)
