Mid Major Respect

In this mornings PJS, Butler -1 1/2 vs. Michigan St.. Dayton -2 in NIT vs North Carolina..
Can you believe 2 Mid Majors favored against two of the most storied programs in NCAA history, Michigan St. and North Carolina.?
What happens if the odds hold and thoase 2 teams are victorious.
What will Digger say? What excuse will Jay Bias give. Gottlieb, forged-a-bout-it. Where is Billy Packer?
The NCAA will certainly inverstigate both schools.
Watch out if both teams win it all. The BCS will push through a 96 team tournament. 64 from the BCS in ThE tournament and the 32 MID MAJORS in a satellite tournament.
The NCAA will mandate Mid Majors may only have 6 scholarship athletes.
GEES, Mid Majors could lose by winning:confused:?

I think this exchange from "Ghostbusters" would sum everything up should both mid-majors win their respective tournaments:

Dr. Peter Venkman: This city (NCAA) is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions.
Mayor: What do you mean, "biblical"?
Dr Ray Stantz: What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, real wrath of God type stuff.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Exactly.
Dr Ray Stantz: Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!
Dr. Egon Spengler: Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes...
Winston Zeddemore: The dead rising from the grave!
Dr. Peter Venkman: Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

 :D

the only time the BCS coaches ever give the mid-majors any respect is when it is SELF-SERVING,
and they need to do it because they are about to play a mid-major, or possibly get beat by a mid-major!!
Then they talk about how great the team was while quietly trying to figure out how to keep them out of the NCAA Tournament next year!

:lol:Mid Majors;
Missoiuri State WINS the CIT
VCU Wins the CBI
Dayton Wins the NIT

C'mon Butler lets get out THE BROOM and sweep them! Lets rattle the halls of the NCAA, BCS, and Diggers everywhere.
C'mon Jimmy, let's join the parade next year!

Wow!!! ODU rises up to win the CBI after winning the CIT the year before! Coooool.
April Fools Day is over though, so I ain't fallin' for it.

VCU won the CBI.

Old Dominion won a 1st round NCAA game over Notre Dame.

Dayton was good

Dayton was 20-12 at the end of their season (beofre their 5 wins in the NIT).
I agree they looked very good in their run through the NIT.
But then how did they lose 12 games? A couple of their losses (at Duquesne and St. Joseph's) were to bad teams.

Using the logic I have seen used here and applied to Bradley- if the talent was there, maybe the coaching wasn't always so good?

using the logic that was established elsewhere on this board...
that if a team has the best players in the conference, and if they were picked to win the conference, and were even ranked inside the Top 20 at one time...
and if everyone agrees they have the talent and should NEVER have lost 12 games...or lost NINE games in their conference...
then it had to be the coaching...

I think the argument has been pretty consistent: There is nothing wrong with 20 regular season wins. That is noteworthy. But when you throw in postseason numbers, you better be in the 24-26 range to make it worthwhile.

Dayton hasn't had fewer than 20 regular season wins since 2007.

Bradley has had 20 win regular seasons two times, and most impressive was 2007 when they did it before the conference tournament.

As for why Dayton's season. . .you gotta look at the big picture Da Coach.

They lost 12 games because they play in a good league. They play a tough non-con with 6 NCAA teams, and only 3 of their opponents failed to see the postseason. As for the losses to Duquesne and St. Joseph's (their only two perplexing conf losses) those teams are led by coaches who even with down years can still put together a game plan that gets you.

I believe that if Bradley had accomplished what Dayton did this year, there would still be the same detractors here ripping Jim Les for not making the NCAA, or for padding his win total in a meaningless tournament.

Overall, Dayton's record under Gregory has not been good enough to satisfy many of their fans- 1 NCAA appearance in the last 6 years.

They looked great

They looked great

Well Dayton was very impressive. I have to admit if I was a Dayton fan I would have to think they underachieved. I would be happy with a NIT championship, but if it was a trend that they lost that many games with that much talent then I would be worried.

you know I was thinking the same thing....detractors will be detractors....no matter what is accomplished...

I agree the coaching wasnt so good, that Dayton team should not have had 12 losses. It is the exact same logic I apply to the Sweet 16 team, no way that team should have finished 5th in conference. To much talent on both teams for that many losses and im pretty sure if you asked both coaches they would agree.

Exactly! It definitely was bad coaching. As a matter of fact, Gregory is the same "bad" coach that many teams are looking at hiring this offseason!

It's obvious that his coaching is so bad, it is actually better than 99% of those teams that are looking for new coaches! ;)

There would be detractors if even Coach K or Tom Izzo missed the tournament for two years!

There is one rule that is common on any campus amongst detractors. That is that the previous resume has absolutely no meaning if a team misses the tournament for two or more years, even if they made the tournament the previous 20 years!

It's unfortunate, but there are some people who are never satisfied!

Do you think the coaches or players on those teams are satisfied if they miss the tournament? If not then why should the fans be?

Collage basketball is big big business worth billions of dollars and has coaches making millions of dollars so I dont see the problem with asking a millionaire basketball coach "what have you done for me lately" Can you name any business job that allows people to rest on their laurels? If you are in sales and don’t sell for a year nobody cares what you did last year. That is the real world.
