Michigan State -- upset time?

I thought we had a chance until the WE injury. His energy and agility on the floor really quickened what we were doing and when he sat for a rest it seemed apparent that the team slowed down. Now SS and DC need to make an impact. I like SS, but it would SURE be nice if DC would "fire-up" and play with some gusto. If he could do that, BU can beat Michigan State. But, as we have seen, strong defense and good outside shooting seem to be the key to our success with or without WE. Agreed?
 
I think the chances were very, very small for an upset before the Egolf injury. I am going to the game and don't expect a victory, not even worried about a victory. I would be happy to see the Braves improve in areas that have been a concern. After the drubbing the Spartans took last night, they will want to open a can of whoop arse on the Braves. I will be interested in BUs post play on defense, blocking out and rebounding, ability to keep the lightening quick guards from blowing to the basket, taking care of the ball to reduce turnovers, ability to keep from getting stuck on a number, ability to minimize a big run by the Spartans. If BU makes free throws and 3s, it will be a bonus. I just want to see solid improvement in the basics. A win, might cause me to stay in East Lansing all night and visit every bar around the campus with my BU clothes on. :eek:

It's time to suck it in and play good hard BB. After last night I think we have a shot. We get a big break with NO Suton in the middle. Press them, fall back in a 1-3-1 zone, control the boards and hit our outside shots. Make them try to beat us with long 2's and 3's. Sounds easy, we can do it;-)
 
Rebound, rebound, rebound!!! Deny second chance points and get some fast break layups off missed shots. UNC ran them to death on fast breaks. Play solid D and don't give up any easy buckets. Make the extra pass and work hard for open looks.
 
The result of the game will certainly be an upset!

Just do not know if it will be a good or bad type of upset

good: we upset MSU
bad: we're upset with our play in a loss.

DC did have a few nice dunks last year vs MSU (You would think we were world beaters by looking at only those highlights), but did let a few boards get away...

I almost think our only hope is either 1)We've been saving AT to break-out in this game, and/or 2) TW gets into early foul trouble and TB has a monster game while logging major minutes at the 4. (I love TW, he'll do fine in the MVC, but this is the sort of big team that will over-rebound his athleticism at the 4 spot, rendering him mostly ineffective. Now, prove me wrong, TW!)
 
Upset? No. I won't be that upset when we lose. I just hope to look respectable. If we lose a heartbreaker I might be upset though.
 
I agree, how can you really get upset losing to Mich. St!? They are a very good team that just got beat by THE best team in the country!
 
I know this is hard to believe, but there is more to basketball than offensive prowess.

Collins had a remarkable game last year in that MSU really struggled in the interior when he was on the floor: With Collins on the floor, MSU shot 32%. With Collins on the bench, MSU shot 48%.

To this day, I don't know why he wasn't on the floor during the last four minutes of the contest.

Though he played 13 minutes. . .A couple more during that final four minutes, I don't think MSU shoots 40% for the game and loses.
 
After watching Mich.St. play last night I believe their is an outside chance to win ;
Here is what we need to do in order to have a chance to win:
1) Continue to shoot the ball well
2) Force Mich.St. to make outside shots ( 2-3 zone could do this)
3) Rebound
4) stay out of foul trouble
I hope Anthony Thompson is ready to become a larger part of this team by stepping up and contributing now as he has the talent to help us.

Perhaps, but the shot that beat us was Kalin Lucas' 18 foot jumper from the corner with about a minute or so to play. BU's plan was to make Lucas, a freshman who's jumper was suspect, beat us. Beat us he did. Had we covered up that shot, perhaps we would have won as well.

Shockingly, we were able to virtually neutralize Drew Neitzel that game. He's the guy I thought would torch us due to our matador perimeter defense.

I agree though squirrel, Collins' difference in that game is quite the mystery. I think I already know the answer, but I would be curious to know what the numbers are comparing our productivity on both ends with Egolf on the floor this year vs. when Collins is on the floor. Same with Singh.

I recall Neitzel hitting some shots when they pulled ahead at the end of the game. (That might of been all his points, but he made 'em when it counted most.

And, I've heard, too many times, JL talk about allowing a suspect guy beat us. I think usually the "other guy" is suspect only when defended straight-up, but usually good when left alone.

It's not a bad strategy at all, and I am certainly not saying JL should have done it any differently. I would guess that taking away options 1, 2, and 3 and making options 4 and 5 beat you is how most good coaches make their living. The good ones can get 4 and 5 to beat you, as Izzo did with 6th man Lucas, who was among their leading scorers last year in Peoria.

I agree with your assessment, unless MSU is still down from their game yesterday. Then again, I don't think Izzo will let that happen!
 
I sure hope DC shows up is all I can say! I hate to be the bearer of bad news though, DC rarley shows up on the road. I hope someone is getting him fired up and proves me wrong because we'll need him.

Who knows about AT? Maybe he did something wrong this summer and JL has had to sit him down and now he can start to play. One can dream!

We'll need alot of different things to go our way on the road for us to win. One never knows and that is why they play them.
 
I agree, play the games and see what happens. BU is not a program that needs give me wins for confidence, or any other reason. I don't expect a win. It is difficult to win on the road, even against teams with far less quality than MSU. I just hope to see improvement in the areas of weakness. Play good and improve and I will be happy. It is not a shame to get beat by a better team. I do hope AT gets some minutes in this game. I think he will be needed during the conference season for some minutes.
