McDermott interview

Anyone happen to see the tv interview with Greg McDermott after the game? He was NOT HAPPY with the change in when the game started. He mentioned that it messed up his kids routine. But mainly, he was dissapointed with the decision itself. He basically said the communication between himself/Creighton and Bradley/MVC was terrible. He implied that the decision to change start time was made either without his approval or knowledge or both. I could not tell what he was refering to. He was definately was pissed at either MVC, Bradley, or both.

I heard today that the time change was not Bradley's decision, so he shouldn't be mad at BU.

If I recall correctly it's never the institutions decision but more the conference and commissioner's office that makes this decision...

I expect this to not be the last one that will be made this week either, unless both ISU and MO State decided to travel Monday for a Wednesday game, which is pretty unlikely...

Funny thing is, I had a work thing I needed to head to Springfield for so I figured what the heck...

Not sure if I am glad to be stuck in East Peoria or not because on the positive side I am not dealing with the ice and issues that have closed two MAJOR highways in St. Louis or sad that I just had to pay $14 to watch a movie in my room....

It's almost a toss up at this point DC but dumb luck got me to see the 1st BU victory of the year in person so I am happy...

i promise that this was all BU's decision and that if check the rules this is true, and if you still don't believe it, call the Valley office.

Nice!

LOL!

Better yet... it musta been Coach Les' decision. Blame it on him.

No No, even better - let's blame it on Geo W.

Who cares? I'm pretty sure both teams had to play at 3 not just CU. JL could have just as easily complained that his home game got turned into virtually a neutral court game due to the weather.

Waaaaaaaaaa.......waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.......waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...........waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...........waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Suck it up McNugget.....and I'd say the same thing had it been reversed and Les was whinning.

I've been stuck in Eureka for day and a half now, sleeping on a treatment table in the Therapy gym.

Stuff happens.....

He was only mad because he lost, too bad and if he cared about what the fans had to go thru to attend he would understand because noboby would have made it home at 9 pm last night as going home at 5 was hard in itself, another guy that only cares about himself.

I can understand his complaining if his team had to quickly jump on a bus and drive 30 minutes to get to the game on short notice.

But his team was sitting in Peoria doing nothing. What does it matter if the game was at 7 or 3 your team was sitting in a hotel listening to music or watching TV.

It isnt like he got a call at 1 30 and said were tipping at 3. I think he is just mad his team lost and he is trying to make any excuse for why they lost.

He's just mad since they lost to a winless club....they got here plenty early.

It might be different if the game was moved up because of anything else besides the weather...and of course if the game would have been at 7 a whole lot less people would have seen them lose

They shouldn't have left Omaha in the first place. This storm was a certainty. No game is that important.

I think he's mad because he and his team probably had to leave BIG AL'S before the lunch special was over. Go back to Creighton you cry baby. He may not realize it but we had to play at 3 also.

Agree with everyone. Sour grapes. BU had to play on short notice as well. If your team is better it shouldn't matter when you throw the ball up. Pretty weak Mac...you're better than this.

JL was just mentioning (on 1470) that our players still had to go to their classes till noon yesterday....

Hmm...while CU's players were in the hotel. So if anyone was inconvenienced, it was us. I view that as a much bigger advantage for CU than us. Any more whine with that cheese Mac?

Maybe not.....its like when the sked comes out first thing in the year. SOME things you just don't moan about....or poor calls from refs....legit or not you'll get no sympathy.

I can say early after the loss CU fans on BJ board were NOT blaming the gametime. They laid it DIRECTLY where it SHOULD fall...on McNugget and the playa's......

Oh boo hoo! Guess what Greg, the time change effected both teams, not just yours! Besides, you can't stop Mother Nature, so why complain?

Maybe he's not above petty whining. I thought he was, I never took him for the type to whine about such things. It's basketball. The ball goes up and you play. Play and coach better next time Mac.

wow, what a big whiner....
like the whole world centers on him???
The city officials, Peoria police, and the Civic Center Authority all basically told BU and the MVC that the game cannot be played at 7PM and have thousands of people potentially out in downtown drawing resources, police, plows, and personnel away from other, more important functions.
If the game was to be played at all it was going to have to be moved up to 3PM.
It was done with the approval of the athletic departments of both schools and of the MVC...so if McD was left out of the loop, then too bad for him, but stop the whining and grow up.

Here's just a few of the reports from our local officials....I suppose McDermott never took anyone else's safety or health into consideration...

"Mayor Jim Ardis...asks employers to close early today and stay closed tomorrow, and for people to stay home if they can."
"12:30 p.m. Tuesday: Illinois Department of Transportation advises people to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary."

http://www.pjstar.com/news/x896129390/Continuous-winter-storm-coverage-from-the-Journal-Star-staff

"Ardis added, "people need to understand... We need to keep the main corridors open."
The mayor recalled briefly the storm of 2006, in which some residents attempted to drive on snow-packed roads and got stuck, impeding the ability of plows to get onto the streets."

http://www.pjstar.com/news/x1526810/Mayor-urges-businesses-to-close-and-people-to-stay-home

"Emergency response authorities strongly urged Peoria area residents to stay home .."
"Officials are urging motorists to not drive anywhere today unless they absolutely have to..
the areas around the Downtown hospitals are ???really bad??? and that people are concerned about unplowed ramps from I-74.

???We tried to keep the areas around the hospitals the best we could,??? he said."

""Motorists who attempt to travel (Tuesday night) are putting not only themselves in great danger, they are also putting the emergency responders in danger," police said.

Streets through the heart of Peoria became barely navigable about noon Tuesday as the first wave of blizzard conditions blanketed the area.

Major Downtown arteries such as Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue saw motorists struggle to maintain straight courses.."
