McDermott, Echenique, and Jones

All 3 started tonight for Creighton. As I write this, they've got 45 points and 16 rebounds (we have 55 pts and 19 rebounds as a team). :-o

One is a freshman, the other two are sophomores. I guess they didn't get the 'youth and inexperience' memo that our guys get every year. ;-)

Their listed height is 6'7, 6'9, and 6'2. Imagine starting underclassmen who are 6'7 and taller. Oh well... I can dream about it.

BB, I like that one but, the truth is we are so far behind just about everyone in this league in talent. We need to clean house. Yes we miss SM and TB but thats just a small problem. We have to many players on scholarship that are NOT MV caliber. We need to thank about 4 young men and wish them well and raid the JC's for immediate help. Next year with of without JL is not looking good.

Josh Jones was averaging 1.9 ppg and was shooting 13.6% from three before this game. Every team has a bench full of kids who average better than that.
Echenique was averaging 11.1 and 4.7- not bad for a sophomore, but not anywhere close to POY numbers..
McDermott has been great- 13.4/6.9 as a true freshman. But he wouldn't be at Creighton if his father wasn't the coach.

The moral to the story- hire a new coach whos kid is a high school All-American. :?

Creighton would have killed us without Lil' Mac. If he wasn't beating us at CU he would be at UNI. All-American? His only BCS offer was from his dad at Iowa St, and was mostly fielding offers from mid to low majors, so let's not act like CU ended up with Kevin Durant here.

The moral of the story is the 'youth and inexperience' excuse is a myth.

so is the "lose your two best players and you can't possibly win" excuse...
and the 2009-10 myth, "lose your 4th best player and 16-15 is a totally acceptable result...even with 3 All-Conference caliber players healthy"...

New year...new reason to give Les another free pass...

It may be true that McDermott wasn't highly recruited when he committed early his senior year. But by the end of his senior year, he was playing better than the McD AA on his team (Harrison Barnes) and would have had BCS offers if he was not already committed.

talk about taking a small statement and making a big issue...mountain mole hill thing....no one used youth and experience as an excuse...the statement was not an excuse at all...it was only made to look that way and that thread went on forever about how our age and experience was compared to other Valley teams...we are middle of the road or under (fact)...but again...

It was NOT being used as an excuse....

I realize your venting here..but who used the can't possibly win without them excuse? NO ONE DID....

I am fine with holding a coach accountable...but we should not help people out with words they did not say...

Honestly coachdude, it's probably more of a commentary on my part about the excuse being used repeatedly last year more so than this year. And my apologies if you took it as a targeted shot at you; it wasn't meant to be one. I was just venting over a few years of frustrating Braves basketball.

Don't blame you on the frustration part....I am with you there...

Andy Katz writes a column about Missouri State, and the Valley and guess what he sees...

that the teams at the top of the Valley have ONE main thing in common...
they are all led by SENIORS....not by freshmen and sophs....
"The Valley has annually been one of the tougher leagues to conquer ..

If you look at the cyclical nature of Valley teams, from Drake to Creighton to Southern Illinois to Northern Iowa to
Bradley to Illinois State to Wichita State, they've all taken their turn at the top over the past decade.
The common denominator? They've been led by seniors.

The Bears start four seniors and Weems, a junior, is the only one who is not in his final season of eligibility."

I am thinking it would have been nice to have had all our seniors healthy and playing...

We're only missing one senior.

Egolf and Thompson are both in their senior years academically.

Dodie and Warren are both playing as 5th year seniors.

How many years in a row can we be 'young and inexperienced'?

Spin it any way you want.
