Max is a great high school player. I think he deserves to be in the group of top 15 players from the Peoria area in the last 20 years. I love watching him play because he is old school and team oriented. It really is a pleasure to watch his half court game as opposed to all this 1 on 1, break you down dribbling, drive to the rim and force a shot crap. He has alot of success because he is smarter than almost all the high school players he goes up against. He uses his body well, can draw fouls at will, has good foot work, knows when he has an offensive advantage or mismatch, etc. However this advantage quickly disappears at the D1 level.
Having said that I still believe Max tops out at the Mid Major level. The fact remains that he is undersized at his position. Without his shoes on he is very likely at best 6'6''. He lacks the speed and quickness that you routinely see at our level. He rarely guards the other teams best big man. He is an average jumper, better than Sam S but not as good as Prosser or Egolf. His best position at our level is the 3 but his doesn't handle the ball well enough (like AW).
I agree with JL in not offering him. We would end up with just another ok player. Our bench is full of them already. Even though they would not admit it, any interest that major D1 schools show now is most likely because they have: lost out on better recruits, someone got hurt, lost someone to academic issues, or had someone with off the court problems. If he gets one of these offers then good for him but if he is looking for playing time.....
