Matt Roth update- gets offer from Indiana U.

Here is a rumor that starts to get a bit unbelievable...

From the Billiken board, supposedly from a good source that had talked to Matt Roth's parents,
and claims that Roth has received an offer from DUKE.

Hey....I told you it was unbelievable...

The poster re-confirms it is from a solid source

One other poster responded doubting the Duke offer but said:
"There is a rumor that Kansas is close to offering, though. Illinois has not offered, but that might come soon. Purdue offered but just picked up a commitment from a similar player last night. Indiana has also offered.
Matt can really shoot it and is a better athlete than many give him credit for. As for "not starting" for his AAU team, that is a bit over the top. The team varies its lineup and Matt had a game recently where he had 27 points in the first half."

But when all is said and done, when the Billiken fans really want to know the facts, then look where they check:

The Duke rumor seems more unbelievable when you consider that Duke only has three scholarships available for the 2008 class.

WHOI had a short blurb on Roth last night saying he was down to just 3, but one of the other stations supposedly said he is still waiting for an Illinois offer.

A couple interesting comments from the Indiana premium board:

"Maybe good news with Matt Roth....
SLU is now bringing in Denver Holmes for an unofficial visit. He is a 6'4" shooting guard... If I recall correctly, Roth was just there and maybe Majerus did not like what Matt had to say about committing soon to SLU. If Holmes gets and accepts an offer, it would eliminate SLU as a possible destination for Roth."

"Teriffic news.
Hope it happens."

and this thread that claims with some confidence that Matt's AAU teammate Tyler Zeller has eliminated Indiana.....which might influence Matt's choice.

Rick Majerus is bringing in an almost identical player to Matt Roth, for a campus visit this weekend.
Denver Holmes, 6-4 shooting guard from Olathe, KS has not yet been offered a scholarship by SLU, and maybe this means either Majerus is uncertain that he can get Roth, or he is pressuring Roth to decide.

Here are some comments from a premium report:
"Holmes To Visit Saint Louis
Posted Aug 10, 2007

Rick Majerus spent much of his first July evaluation period as the coach at Saint Louis University traveling to tournaments to watch the five players who had already committed to play for the Billikens. But one player who grabbed the coach???‚¬?„?s attention during July was Denver Holmes.

Majerus saw Holmes, a 6-foot-4, 175-pound shooting guard at Olathe (Ks.) South High School, when he was playing with his KC Pump N Run squad in Shawnee, Kansas over the last weekend of July.

???‚¬?“My top three right now are SLU, Missouri State and Santa Clara,???‚¬?? Holmes said. ???‚¬?“I???‚¬?„?m also interested in Arkansas State, Florida Atlantic and Evansville.???‚¬??

Holmes does not have scholarship offers from his top three schools, but they could be forthcoming. The shooting guard said his present offers are from Florida Atlantic, Evansville, Indiana State, Arkansas State and Missouri-Kansas City.

Saint Louis already has five verbal commitments for the Class of 2008: point guard Kwamain Mitchell, shooting guard Femi John, small forward Brian Conklin, power forward Willie Reed and center Brett Thompson.

The Billikens have extended offers to Washington (Ill.) shooting guard Matt Roth and Evansville (Ind.) shooting guard Kyle Kuric. Both of those players are sorting through several scholarship offers and might not make decisions on their college destinations for a few weeks at the earliest.

SLU could wait to hear from Roth and Kuric before offering Holmes, but the Kansas City area guard fits the kind of player the Billikens are trying to bring in with that sixth scholarship."

It seems he hasn't committed yet, so I guess that's good news for Bradley fans. But these 2 visits last week might suggest he's deciding betwen Indiana and St. Louis. I hope that's not the case. :?

Several posts on the Billiken board lend towards the argument that he may have eliminated SLU and be deciding between BU & IU, as they seem disappointed that he left and did not commit.
