Maniscalco to Illinois?

Just had a text from someone who spoke to SM and he said he wan't going to UIUC and he didn't start the rumer. That is, probably, the most reliable info we have had on this rumer from the source himself.

No offense, but what is SM supposed to say in that situation? "yeah i'm definitely going" when he knows 90% of peoria is completely in his business. He still has to live here through the summer to complete his classes....i have a feeling he'd want those months to go by as smoothly as possible. Plus, and this may just be me, but I don't know how reliable a text to a friend and another text to another friend and then a post on a message board is.

I hope it doesn't happen. JMO, if he wants to solidify his legacy at Bradley, he should stay at Bradley. There will always be an * in many fans minds as the guy who left...when he could have stayed. And he'd get much more playing time at Bradley.

I have to agree. I would not begrudge him but his potential legacy will depend on his action. I for one really hopes he stays. Just look at Walt Williams of Maryland and what he represents for them. I can say his legacy is cemented in Maryland lore and he never won an NCAA championship.

Well how do you know that he's definitely going? If this example of a friend texting is not that reliable, how are all the rumors on the U of I board any more reliable? As far as I know there has not been one official statement regarding SM's future. All the "news" coming out has completely relied on heresay, so until MC and/or Bruce Weber say anything concrete, I can't believe anything I hear at this moment.

No I agree. I'm not saying that I'm believing he's going to UIUC, but what I am saying is that I'm not going to calm down and relax that SM will for sure be back next season because of reading that post. That's all I meant.

And I know what you mean with the UofI board, but when something like that seems to spread like wildfire there's usually a kernel of truth...it didn't just appear out of nowhere you know?

Okay, I see what you mean. Thanks for the explanation. :)

As far as rumors not appearing out of nowhere, well true, but that still doesn't make them accurate. Perhaps a "friend of a friend" of SM talked to this friend who was told by SM that he's weighing all of his options, and before you know it, the actual info was "compromised" by the time it hit the U of I boards. That's how these rumors usually end up so far from the truth in the first place.

Last I saw SM is still a Brave!

Fact.

Just jumping on line here after a brief look this evening and now diving into these topics. Regarding Sammy transferring............

#1- It's hardly been 48 hours. Let's calm down and breathe.
#2- Do you honestly think that SM will make a decision to leave BU without knowing who the next coach is?
#3- As SPF says, he's still a Brave.
#4- We are making a mockery of message boards by buying into a totally unsubstantiated rumor alledgely originating on another team's board.

In 2-3 weeks, all this rampant speculation and hearsay will look silly and over emotional. Lets not do or say things that a month from now we wish we hadn't written. Remember, these players do read this stuff.

Thank you! The post of the year so far. :D

I have to admit that comparing SM to Danny just drives me nuts.

SM after 4 years at the university may decide to transfer after obtaining his degree and after the coach that recruited him is fired.

The similarity is that the coach that originally recruited Danny was also fired. Danny decided to stay. After a number of discipline issues (eg not showing up for the bus headed to In State) he elected to quit on his team and depart mid season after "allegedly" being tampered with by an ex-player, assistant coach(s) from Bradley. Upon his departure he said a bunch of negative things about the University/Coach.

Yeah-I will cheer for SM wherever he plays (although I hope it is at Bradley) and sadly I will ALWAYS be a fan of whoever is playing against Danny Granger.

Both went through difficult situations. One did not handle it with much class while I have every confidence the other will.

Believe what you want and I didn't say he was going to be here next year but just that he wasn't going to IL.
What I said came straight from SM and the person he told he is very close to-kind of a grandpa figure-could be lieing about IL but doubt it-not SM style

Let's start a new rumor.

I heard from a VERY CREDIBLE source...that SM plans to sign a professional baseball Double A contract with the Mariners organization.

For the record, Danny didn't want to stay when Les was hired, he only stayed because his Dad really wanted him to stay. To say he had a number of discipline issues is unfair. Did he miss the team bus, yes, but what other discipline issues were there? I was around him quite frequently as well as many others on that team and there were no other discipline issues.

When Danny elected to quit, he was not the only player considering leaving, several were, he was the only one that finally decided enough was enough. Any conversations with DB were after he already decided to leave and he had played his last game. Your comments make it seem that contact with DB was before he made his decision to leave and that it was his reason for leaving. You can choose to root against Danny every time he plays, but the bottom line is he left Bradley for what he saw as a better opportunity for him. If SM leaves in my eyes its the same thing, for a better opportunity. I'm still friends with Danny and I will continually root for him, and I will still root for Sam if he decides to leave.

Yeah I've never been able to get all mad at Danny Granger. The guy chose to leave after a coaching change occurred that upset him. I think any college player who goes through a coaching change should get some slack. I don't like the tampering that went on, and I know some unfortunate things were said on both sides... But if Jim Les could get over it, so, I think should we. I don't root against him, and I don't mind the fact that he's tried to acknowledge Bradley from time to time-- in fact I'd welcome him back into the family if he really wanted in.

I'd have to think Sammy would see who are coach is first unless something the university did really upset him in this process. I hope he will consider his teammates and all the fans that love him though. It will hurt if he moves on, but I will understand it and not be upset with him. Losing JL hurts enough, I hope Sammy decides to stay. I love watching his toughness in a Braves uniform.

It is obviously unlikely, but if this team could stay intact for next year, we could contend for a tournament bid. Players like Sammy, TB, and RA are once in a lifetime.....that's why I wish JL could have had one more year. But now we must move on with what we have, and I hope that includes Sammy.

Bradley would still be my number one team by far, but I always watch a lot of Illinois games just to see how they are doing, so I would watch him as a fan of college basketball.

Well now we know the truth...

Gosh why do you guys hate UIUC so much. They never did anything to us!
jealousy plain and simple, ISU Redbird-type jealousy

...yes, and this is what is sooooo interesting.........
has anyone ever seen a coach firing where so much fallout happens within the next 2 or 3 days???
Recruits suddenly changing their tune, recruits' coaches saying they definitely won't be coming, active players asking for release even before the coaching search begins, and ...
(wait for the next few headlines...)
...we all know we are going to get around to it sooner or later...maybe look for the root cause of all the turmoil..

I don't know. While that may part of it, I think part of it is a lot of young U of I fans are very arrogant towards Bradley. They are ignorant in acknowledging Bradley's great basketball history.

I don't see much at all happening at all, except talk. Maybe a lot will occur, but right now it's all talk. Officially. We still could end up with the same team. Officially.

Not taking the heat off of the admins, they have made the mess and the hot seat has been clearly shifted to them, but I'm sure every coach dismissal in this day and age has kids at least exploring options.
