Lewis Jackson Trims List

New member
Decatur Eisenhower's Lewis Jackson, a recruit that Bradley has been after for a couple years,
has trimmed his list according to a brand new interview. This is NOT going to be well received by the Illini people, as he has cut Illinois from his list of choices, and also has cut the west coast schools he was considering, BUT--
He still includes BRADLEY!!

This is the same scenario that drove some Illini people crazy a few weeks ago when Iman Shumpert did the same thing.
http://www.bradleyfans.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=7977

I think it's just MORE evidence of the impression Jim Les makes on these fine recruits when he gets in early and stays after them.

Jackson says these are the schools on his present list of five schools:
Purdue, Bradley, Indiana, Dayton, and Tennessee

"Lewis told us that he will be taking an unofficial visit to Purdue in the next week and hopes to make a decision before September 1st."

There are several Illinois boards and most are about equally active:
There isn't much talk on this subject, since the thread on BradleyFans is as current as it gets, and nobody has put much up on these other boards. I will post a link there to our board if I get time.

There's a little friendly rivalry at play here, but let's not let it spill onto BradleyFans.
Jackson was indeed being courted by USC, Gonzaga, and UNLV.
I had also been told by knowledgable people he would definitely choose Gonzaga or UNLV....but in the end he has enough fine offers here in the midwest, that he didn't want to do what a lot of kids like Sead Odzic did....go far away and be unhappy.

Anyway, as far as who had the scoop, I think BradleyFans had the story of Jackson trimming his list before anyone else did.
I added the reference to the link only later when it confirmed what I had posted.

Illinois fans are saying that Weber & Co. dropped Jackson from THEIR list, not the other way around.

Spin away, Illini fans.....

As I told you in my e mail to you, Daniel,
you are a very well accepted member of BradleyFans, and your responses are welcome here.
I just didn't want other posters to "chime in" or turn it into a "spat".

Here is another article from a writer for the Decatur Herald and Review with an interview of Lewis Jackson. It's worth reading.

http://www.herald-review.com/articles/2007/08/04/sports/h_r_preps/boys_basketball/1025436.txt

Here are a couple interesting quotes from Jackson:
About why he eliminated the University of Illinois--
And a perceived lack of affection felt by 5-foot-9 blink-quick guard didn't help Bruce Weber and his staff either.
"They said, 'You have to tell us you want to come here,' " Jackson said. "They said they wanted me to come there, but they weren't going to recruit me because then it looks bad if I don't go there. They told (Washington High School guard) Matt Roth and a couple of other guys the same thing. They all say they wish Illinois had recruited them harder.
"I respect Coach Weber and Coach (Jay) Price, and I like them a lot, but there was no love like at other schools."

Why he is still considering Bradley and Dayton--
Bradley and Dayton have been in the hunt since Jackson emerged as a Division I talent after his freshman season at Eisenhower.
'Bradley runs that West Coast Phoenix offense that really gets up and down the court. I like that a lot," Jackson said. "Dayton has a great coach, Brian Gregory. He was at Michigan State and signed Mateen Cleaves. And, it was always him that would come and see me. Usually it's an assistant. That was cool."

In this article Jackson really rips the recruiting staff from Illinois:
"a perceived lack of affection felt by 5-foot-9 blink-quick guard didn???‚¬?„?t help Bruce Weber and his staff either.

???‚¬?“They said, ???‚¬??You have to tell us you want to come here,???‚¬?„? ???‚¬?? Jackson said. ???‚¬?“They said they wanted me to come there, but they weren???‚¬?„?t going to recruit me because then it looks bad if I don???‚¬?„?t go there. They told (Washington High School guard) Matt Roth and a couple of other guys the same thing. They all say they wish Illinois had recruited them harder.

???‚¬?“I respect Coach Weber and Coach (Jay) Price, and I like them a lot, but there was no love like at other schools.???‚¬??

While on that link, read the story just below about IU recruit DeAndre Thomas, who dropped 36 lbs, all the way from 358 to 322!

Ha ! No respect for the poor Illini.
Even the writer of that JG-TC article misspells Illinois!
(Illinios)

A new article about BU recruit Lewis Jackson posted this afternoon, and due to come out in Monday's Decatur Herald & Review newspaper--
LJ nears a college choice
http://www.herald-review.com/blogs/hrpreps/?p=126

A couple interesting facts-- Bradley remains on Lewis Jackson's short list of 5 finalists (Bradley, Dayton, Indiana, Purdue, and Tennessee).
"Just about every school in the country courted him at one level or another ???‚¬??? Kansas called expressing late interest on Friday ???‚¬??? and more than a few weren???‚¬?„?t exactly honest.....
He???‚¬?„?ll take some guff from disgruntled Illini fans for his college choice"

One comment-- between Lewis Jackson, Matt Roth, Iman Shumpert, Kyle Kuric, and others, Jim Les and the Bradley staff deserve our respect and appreciation for the effort they have made to recruit these highly skilled, top-rated, and quality young men. I hope we land a couple of them, but even if we don't, it is impressive to see Bradley listed as finalists for these guys as well as others when they eliminated nearly all the other mid-majors a long time ago.

One of the criticisms of Jim Les was that one of the other candidates 5 years ago would have done a better job recruiting the top players from Peoria.
But Jim Les has silenced those detractors, as he has not only shown he is able to recruit locally, but is in on the top recruits statewide and even nationally.
I would love to see some of the critics speak up now.

A new article on the Purdue Rivals site reports that Decatur Eisenhower point guard Lewis Jackson has a visit to the Purdue campus scheduled for Thursday. It's the only campus visit he has scheduled.
The article suggests that Jackson is very impressed with Purdue, and appears to be leaning toward committing to Purdue very soon. His AAU teammate Tyler Zeller is also said to favoring Purdue.
For the record, Lewis Jackson still claims that he is considering a list of 5 schools, Bradley, Indiana, Purdue, Tennessee, and Dayton.
