No, she's being the president of the university. I don't think the decision has been set in stone but I think she already knows exactly what she is going to do once the season is over. She's not going tip her hand at this point one way or the other.

It's just like the rediculous comments that Jim lies to the media when he doesn't reveal a player's injury or some other thing before a game.

If a reporter asked a coach to give details about his game plan for an important game, is it unethical for that coach to give untrue or deceptive information so as not to reveal his true game plan and give the other team an undeniable advantage?


Of course it is not. No coach or participant in any sport on any level would consider it unethical to dodge the question or give deceptive answers in order to give his own team an advantage. It happens in every sport from basketball to poker to competetive bass fishing.

Anyone offended by this should get out of following competetive sports.

If anyone thinks this is unethical, let me ask this, should a baseball pitcher be required to tell the batter what pitch he's about to throw? Why not? It's the same issue!

Right now she has to walk a tight line and say the right things. It is a delicate balancing act.

I base a lot on tournament attendance...

While other schools only attend specifically when they're expected to win (Drake, ISU, UNI), teams like Bradley, SIU, Wichita, and Creighton usually represent well regardless of finish...

Well, the last couple years have proven to me how down the programs are at Bradley and SIU...

When UNI sells 5 sections and Bradley barely fits into 2, there's a problem but once again JMO...
 
It's pretty sad that 90% of the talk the last couple of days has centered around the coaching situation for NEXT year, and we've got a game coming up in 7 hours that the BU hoops team is excited about.

I know people are anxious about the coaching situation, but it would be nice to focus on the season that's left. We're getting sucked into this debacle that we have no control over. Wessler's timing was awful for this article IMO.

Just expressin' my thoughts. Just in no mood to be talking about if Coach Les stays or goes...not until after this weekend.

I was skeptical and concerned about hiring a stock broker to coach a major university; but it was Jim Les who was a star at BU and I knew would do everything possible to make BU a strong BB school. On the other hand after 9 years I have expected a "lot" more. If I were considering JL as my coach based on his resume, I would not give him much consideration. JMO.

Coach Les will be here next year in large part because of the injuries. However, next year will be his last year if he does not perform to the administartions satisfaction....and....I agree with this decision.

From my way outsider perspective, this is what I hope. I think he deserves a shot to win with everyone. If he doesn't, then let the chips fall.

You are correct in that why have these articles not been written weeks ago, not the last week of the season when the team is trying to concentrate on the tour; how about right after the season.

I have given this subject alot of thought and have said on here I'm glad its not my decision. i agree with your post and second it. I also think the buyout money also comes into play with this decision. We will know the answer in a few short days.

I would contend that he had "his shot to win" last year...and we didn't. He had Warren, Maniscalco, and Brown and we finished 5th in the conference.
Just doesn't inspire much confidence in the potential for next year being significantly different, IMO...

I agree!

I'm not sure what more is left...after 9 years, I think he has fully and completely shown what he is...

And more than that, how many chances does he deserve?!

Recall, this was the guy who yes took a team to the Sweet 16, but a team that only was such a shocker because they underperformed so terribly during the year that they weren't on anyone's radar! They did finish 5th guys!


Also, it wouldn't make any sense to write the article KW wrote on say Momday if that's when the decision could be made...as in the article would be during or after the decision...

I agree that maybe it should've been posted Mon or Tue, but no timing is good timing when you're talking about negative pub...but that said, Les gets paid to deal with this on a day to day basis and while DR wants to pussyfoot around things, KW doesn't...some like this and some really don't...

Either way, we should have our decision shortly, and like I said, I lean one way but that's only because I think it will better the basketball program...either way I am and will always be a Brave!

Right, but he wasn't fired. If you are going to fire him for his performance in 2009-10, fire him in 2010. Since he was retained, I think it is hard to fire a guy, IMO, who does so much right, who has done so much for BU, for losing after the injuries. If you're going to fire an alum, with all the positives he brings, do it after a season where there is no doubt about his ability to contend. My opinion.

That's how I feel. This was going to be the year, and some stuff happened that changed that. Next year is now that year, and after Sammy (and maybe Taylor if he doesn't get another year) has gone, if it didn't go right then you do what you have to. Taking all considerations in, I don't think it's best to fire him now.

I have also hear a rumor that decision has already been made, but with less than an hour before tip off, I think we should be showing our support for our boys' underdog shot at going 4-0 over the next four days and saying the decision will be made Monday. What if we go 4-0? The season's not over monday... just saying.

GO BRAVES! BEAT THE DOGS AGAIN! :mrgreen:
 
The sentimental, compassionate side of me that loves what JL represents for BU fans of my generation (grown up during the 80's) wants to see him get another shot with a full roster.

The practical side of me that saw us lose to horrific teams at home (ISU, EIU) and sees way too many empty seats and even more apathy from the masses says it's time to go.

I'm easily persuaded one more year, but I gotta admit I'm kind of excited about seeing who we can bring in here to turn this thing around.

I do know this, JL has busted his balls trying to make this happen and this kills him. But it's an uncompassionate business this college basketball. It's what he signed up for.
