So, in your opinion, no newspaper writer should ever publish or post his/her own thoughts?

If you don't think journalists (especially those that have been close to a situation for an extended period of time) don't get inside information than you are more naive than I thought. How do you think scandals and other stories get broken and "scooped" by journalists? Give me a break.

Had the writer in question posted his thoughts, that would have been fine. But he went way beyond that. He could have simply said "I believe coach should be fired", or "I am in favor of a coaching change". But that is not what was done.
This is what Kirk said: "I??™m also sure I am right about this: The unofficial countdown to the end of Jim Les???s career as head coach has begun. It??™s important to emphasize, nothing is set in stone."
He clearly states that he is sure about his thoughts. He says it is unofficial. He also says nothing is set in stone.
That is pretty to the point, IMO.
What is what KW did different than what you stated? I honestly don't see the difference.
Go back and re-read KW's march 30, 2010 column.
So if, and I emphasize the word if, Jim Les is let go or no longer the basketball coach next year does KW still have to issue an apology? Wouldn't he then be right?
To me this has to play out to be able to say whether or not what he says is a lie...correct?

KW should come on over to this board and tell us what he thinks, what he knows, etc. He posts at the other board (which doesn't get the traffic like this board). :twisted:
Its a two-way street MMob. If posters have issues with what Kirk has said why not confront him directly? I've wondered this for a while. He doesn't hide. He posts. He responds. You can email him. You can respond directly on the message board. Heck, go up to him at the game and talk to him. He is very approachable and doesn't even hide behind a screen name.
To me if someone has a problem with something someone said they seek that guy out--not the other way around.

I've got absolutely nothing to say to him.
I was suggesting he come here and spill it - say what he has to say... instead of having people on opposite sides trying to explain what he is saying. Might make it easier in the discussion to have KW saying it instead of you, jd, squirrel, or anyone else.
(sorry to name names - I know it is a no-no but I thought it would help in my comment)
But you would be insinuating that Kirk is bothered by the talk. In fact, it's great for him. If Kirk were bothered then I would suggest he come over here.
But the ones who are bothered by what he says are here, not Kirk. See what I mean? Why would Kirk have to clear anything up? No one has gone directly to him with issues (none that I know of).
Why don't Da Coach and tornado (only naming names to help my comment) just go directly to Kirk instead of airing issues on a third-party website?

that's what I'm trying to do...not that I have issues really one way or the other...just a little more explanation on his opinion I guess

Nope- -been there, done that..
I learned a lesson a few years ago about talking directly to or debating someone who writes for a newspaper...I did just that and the very answers I gave were published in such a fashion that not only left me feeling I had been treated unethically, my words were altered and used inappropriately, and that I was being attacked by the very person who came to me and asked for a few comments on a subject.
I think there's an old rule that goes something like this...
"don't get into an argument with someone who buys ink by the barrel"
I learned by my experience that the newspaper person I talked with once had an agenda and where my words might get read by hundreds, their words get potentially read by thousands...
It's certainly OK to have an opinion. My opinion is JL will be our coach next year.
I would give my opinion on this...but I think I would unfortunately be required to reveal my sources and use facts to prove why my heart of hearts has this opinion...and I don't know that I could do that.
What about the people that have stated that "20 days" article was "all fact"? I'm sure if the people that visit this board every day feel that way, then the casual fan/general public must believe that as well.
