Kentucky's Enes Kanter

I think it actually came out to the school basically agreeing that kanter had received roughly 30,000 USD more than his annual living expenses. Going from only making 30,000 to a Kentucky payday would have be a massive step up!
 
I am thinking this is just an attempt by the NCAA to act like they are punishing big schools. Guarantee he wins his appeal and is suspended like 5 games.
 
Personally, I agree that the NCAA is one backwards organization, but I think it is pretty funny hearing the differing opinions of the NCAA based on which boards you read. Here, and at most mid-majors, it is always about how the NCAA will never significantly punish a big school. On Big BCS school boards, like for instance, UK - it is always how the BCS purposefully targets them because they are "On top", and "a big deal".

Even knowing the NCAA's track record, it would be pretty amazing for the appeal to get through. Kentucky has already agreed that he was paid beyond his normal living expenses, so I'm not really sure on what grounds they will appeal. Being from the commonwealth of Kentucky, a ridiculous amount of my friends are going ballistic, especially given that my UofL cardinals won their appeal last month. But as you said, i don't suppose i'll be terribly surprised if something works out in their favor, not because its a BCS school, but because its just the dumbass NCAA
 
wow -- NCAA is breaking new ground..

now they have ruled a big time African kid ineligible for 9 games because someone bought him a ticket to get here last year from Africa.

So where has this type of scrutiny & discipline been all along??
All these African kids have some big time sugar-daddy paying the bills and the NCAA has never bothered to check before..

Seriously -- how does a dirt poor African kid come to the US and attend a $50,000 per year prep school without "someone" outside the family covering the costs.......
seems strange that only now they are enforcing this..........

this does surprise me, but it's the way it should be...
the NCAA should have also taken control of the payments to players and agents years ago when USC was paying Reggie Bush and OJ Mayo..and more other BCS schools were getting away with it....

Odd how the school, Kentucky, is countering by naming Enes Kanter as an assistant coach so he can stay with the team -- thus effectively allowing him to play and practice with the team despite the NCAA ruling saying he cannot.
This probably also allows Kentucky to make good on whatever promises or payments they had also made to Kanter for his switching his verbal from Washington to UK.
I suspect there's a lot of sleaze behind this.

Guarantee you there is a lot of sleaze behind this when Calapari is involved.
 
Here's a twist that's sure to provoke some opinions...

the guy who was the president of University of Washington, Mark Emmert, when Enes Kanter committed there then was lured out of his commitment by Calipari ..
then took the job as the head of NCAA and was involved in issuing the Enes Kanter ineligibility ruling...

So looks to me that this is a case of "goes around/comes around"..
Calipari stole Kanter from Washington but in the end Washington gets the final laugh.......

Emmert says the rule is perectly clear and UNambiguous...so he cannot understand how people can posibly disagree and NOT see that Kanter is a pro!
Emmert also goes on to give some other shady answers as to why some of the NCAA penalties for BCS schools are pretty light..

Many have said Enes Kanter is ready for the NBA right now and would dominate--
just maybe that's a bit premature...
He is now playing some international competition - hardly NBA-level competition and he isn't exactly tearing up the stat sheets...
Kanter went for 5 pts, 3 rebs against Lithuania...

given the rumors of how much money Kanter was paid before he went to Kentucky -- I'd say he isn't giving his money's worth.. ;)
 
Last week I was watching a Utah game the announcers were still predicting superstardom for Kanter...but thus far - nearly two years into his NBA career - the stats say he's off to a very slow start on that stardom...

In his rookie season last year he averaged 4.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, and adds little else - 0.1 apg, 0.3 spg, and 0.4 bpg..

This season about the same, 6.4 ppg, 4.1 rpg, and again blocks, asst, and steals are virtually non-existent..
The only season POB averaged double digit minutes he had similar numbers.....
