Kent and Henry

Coach, any idea what's going on with these two guys and if there's any chance of getting either or both of them back come tournament time?

Jayson Kent is still day-to-day. Just a guess, but I think he will be ready for the tournament, hopefully sooner.

Henry continues to be evaluated daily. That's all I have heard.

I cannot imagine Henry playing this year. Even if he is ready to come back for the tournament, how many minutes a game would that be? He hasn't played hardly at all in months. If he could give us 5-10 minutes a night that would be asking a lot not being in game shape in a back-to-back-to back potential situation.

I would have him heal the rest of this year then come back next year. Look at the team we could have next year. If all the key players come back

I imagine Henry's playing career is likely over, I couldn't see him coming back for another year or even playing again this year. Head injuries aren't the same as injuries to other parts of the body.

Let's have Henry dress for the MVC championship game and let him get in the final mop up minutes after we're up by 30 on Loyola. I can dream, right? :-)

He needs to be available to walk out on the floor for the senior night presentation. He doesn't need to take a chance with his long-term health

Question.....can he even come back next year if he wants? He should not play again this year for sure, but would welcome him back next season.

Yes, he could return and play one more season under the NCAA Covid rule from last year that granted all athletes another season of eligibility.

But I believe, unlike this year, they do count against the 13 scholarships if they come back for a fifth year. So we could have anywhere from 1-3 open rides right now, pending other players leaving and Jashon and Ari's decisions.

Yes, it makes the coaches' jobs a little more difficult judging how many open scholarships they'll have.

If there is only 2, we need another PG and another Center.....with 3 a lights out 3 pt shooter!:-o

A hint regarding Henry - last game Dave Snell mentioned the Seniors who will be honored tonight. Henry was not mentioned. If we do not see Henry with the other seniors - then that at least leaves the "return next season" option open.

Question for Da Coach. Is a concussion curable? If you get a concussion is it with you forever or does your body heal itself from it?

Every concussion is different, and every individual who gets a concussion responds differently. Plus, there aren't any really good long-term studies that follow people out for decades or the rest of their lives. Most studies are short term.
Most concussions do seem to recover and get back to what appears to be normal, especially the mild concussions. But it takes time and even in those cases, the injury involved could show symptoms many years later like we read about with athletes who develop CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy). That seems to happen mostly in athletes who get repeated or severe concussions. That's why we take more caution about allowing athletes to return too quickly.
Here is a site with good info about concussions, and pages 10 & 11 address your question.
https://www.cdc.gov/headsup/pdfs/providers/facts_about_concussion_tbi-a.pdfI

And this site is more specifically about athletes-
