Ken Kavanagh named new athletic director at FGCU

Virnette is a pretty great woman.

I'm glad to see BU is going with the interim for the year. The national search that they will likely conduct should be a fun one to watch :)

As a current (for a few more days...) student who was here during Broski and Glasser's tenure, she wins, hands down.

Much better public face. Willing to make decisions. Great with fundraising efforts.

Just because a president has a better public face does not make them good at their job. As for decision making, what difficult decisions has she made? Dont get me wrong, The Prez has done some good things already... But to date, I wouldnt catergorize any of her decisions as difficult..... Fundraising efforts can go so far as long as the mases remain enthused......

Broski was in essence fired. . .he misappropriated hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not into the millions from the University towards the purchase of cadavers for a Chicago firm doing medical research.

Southpaw, glad we have on board, as you can always tell us the inside scoop that just ordinary folks don't hear about.

I believe southpaw is referring to Broski's tenure at UIC... If so, all this was well known to the various media at the time of his BU hire.

Beni, your not along on your feelings about Queen Perz. I am just not buying off yet on all her Show:!: Personally, I am not sure KK and other's were/are either:eek:

I may have missed something, but where does it say that BU is going interim for the whole year?

Not sure if its true but someone told me the KK is the first person to ever resign from his job to take another one.......

I've done it before.

What does his tenure at UIC have to do with his firing, as southpaw says, by BU? I'm just saying somehow southpaw knows, or insinuates, all the inside info.

Obviously, the behavior didn't stop Chico. He took an "early retirement."

everyone has their own perspective and viewpoint, and each has his own biases as well. And again, I suspect nobody knows everything about this story, so we are each left to judge what we know...but suffice it to say, that NOBODY posting in this topic works IN the athletic dept., so how can anyone, even anyone who works a block away lay claim to knowing all the facts....

I doubt you will find many people in the business world or anywhere that are as highly liked and respected as Ken Kavanagh was and is.

Remember...KK just laid his credentials all on the table in Florida along with 175 other applicants...and he went through a long and rigorous review process, interviews, and background checks, along with having all his references checked and doublechecked minutely.

....and guess who won??
Yup...those folks think Ken Kavanagh is the best that they can find, so they hired him....and once the process was completed, they didn't take much time, the picked him right away.

Mark these words.....he will be missed in Peoria and at BU, and even by those who may not miss him right now.

Well said T!:)

I hope we find another AD that has 1/2 the personal skills of KK. It will be hard to replace a person like him and in all honesty why has the University not sent out a press release thanking him for all that he contributed to the community? He was at BU for a long-time and that is the least anyone could do. Even the Yankees thanked Torres for his years with them. ;-)

There are right things to do that take little effort and when they are not I can just imagine why!

Not sure what your reasons are, but I have never known anyone else who didn't like KK, or who thought he didn't deal fairly with everyone. I think he has great personal skills, and everyone I know agrees. He was a success at Bradley and will be successful at FGCU.

I competely agree, Ken was extreamly approachable and very nice to my friends and I. I have one friend who sent Ken dozens of emails over the years and he responded to each one with great detail.
