The Jim Les Live radio show is on this morning on WMBD radio.
It starts right after the 8:30 news. If any fan gets a chance to listen, give us a report of what he says about the game Saturday.
He will not be able to comment on the new recruit, however.

"Good wakeup call"

Didn't like a lot of the focus and attention to defense in practice leading up to the game.

It's going to be about our ability to defend...they will buy in or they won't play.

Haven't worked on offense much to this point and still scored 80.

The film doesn't lie.....starts with juniors and seniors. Skilled group that won't have problems scoring. If the veterans won't buy in on the defensive end....will be forced to play the younger guys.

We're not looking at who isn't playing (SM and TB). The group on the floor needs to step up.....replace the leadership....and do a little more. That doesn't mean score more......defend better....rebound more.

Friday's practice was crisp and the lack of carryover to Saturday showed another agenda.

Coaching staff will show them what they did wrong and build them up to get the players ready and in position to have success when the lights come on Friday night.

Told the guys last night during long, intense meeting about the game to be accountable for the team winning/losing.

There needs to be a mentality shift on gamenight. Juniors and seniors need to set the example and the younger players will follow.

JP was aggressive going to the boards, getting rebounds in traffic. Redshirt benefited him to get bigger, stronger, and play with confidence.

Kingsville is a very athletic up-and-down the floor team.

Expecting a response to who this team is going to be.....really expecting a big response on Friday night.

Exhibition game was a cost-free wakeup call.

Gametime is still in the air......wanting students/fans to have time to attend the soccer game and still make it to the season opener.

Will be back on 1470 Friday morning......

This is a scary quote to me. If they haven't been working on offense much, that must mean that they've been putting quite a bit of time into the defense. If that's the case, how does a team give up 86 points to a D-II school?

It sounded to me like they have been working on defense and it just didn't translate into gameplay. That's where the quote about "another agenda" comes in when the lights came on for the actual game.

I really don't know how to respond to that because the same defensive sets and same mistakes were being made that were being made 1, 2, or even 3 years ago...

I think he really needs to look in the mirror before he throws another group of players under the bus...

Besides, it was his idea to throw the 6'10" and 6'8" guy in the game with a 7 pt lead basically to blow it.

Agree the subbing messed up the lead...I mentioned that to my son at the time...

But we did not commit same mistakes from 3years ago...I think that the players made mistakes adjusting to a different style of "D"...don't like the "buy in" term...I think its more of grasping the concept...there were guys working hard on "D"...but they have to be together on "D" and they were not...

Really have to give Quincy a little credit...they hit some big shots and shot well down the stretch...

I have been a JL supporter for a lot of years and I would love to see the team succeed this year. However, I have to say that I very much agree with your statement! It is time for JL to MAN UP:!::idea:

Caught part of the show this morning and agree w/ shanguth w/ what JL said.
The one thing I caught was JL said "each one" including himself had to look at the game and see what "each player and coach" can do to improve. He did mention that at the team meeting he asked the question for everyone (including coaching staff) "what can I do to improve". He mentioned that doesn't mean scoring more points but doing whatever it takes to make the team a winner.
Shanguth it sounds like you heard more of the show then I did but that was the one thing I understood him to be saying if you understood it different then please correct me.

The part I caught I didn't hear him blaming just the guys.

You're right......I believe the biggest part of "blaming" the players was when he said things changed once it was gametime and there appeared to be a different agenda from some players. He never mentioned any players, but he did stress more than once that it begins with the upperclassmen and if not, then he'll have to play the younger players.

You also noticed how we blew the lead by playing guys that still are not ready, those 2 should only play after the game has been decided like with a 20 plus point lead and 2 minutes to go, maybe then they will give better effort and get some rebounds or pay the price and sit and watch from the bench.

Agreed, this underscores why I oppose trying to just play bigs because they are tall. Put the talent and hard workers out there. And make the others work for it. You can only develop so much in a game, you have to be ready for it to get anything out of it.

you know I have to disagree a little..although I want to win EVERY game...this one was not about winning..it was about getting to look at the players against outside competition...he needed to play them and the subject of when is a tough call... I think in a regular season game you are correct and that is what you will see...

I understand what you are saying in that this was only an exb. game but experimenting against Iowa St. in a game where there is no fans or press is the time to not care about what the score is, I guarantee with that loss to Quincy BU. is not going to sell as many tickets to the next several games because the outside world will believe they are not going to be very good and will not wish to watch or spend money on a team that loses to a d-2 school.

He went big and gets slammed!:-o Let's all not get carried away. We'll see what this team is made of come Friday. Test one though says that AT is still not ready. JP better be who a lot of our posters claim he is or we will have a long season of a bunch of people jumping off the cliff.:? We need another big in our lineup that can play quality minutes.

Brown will make a world of difference. Slide him to the 3/4 and put Prosser at the 5 with Egolf at the 4 and NOT shooting anything beyond a 15fter. Combine that with Warren/DD/DSE That is good length and size and should compete both rebounding but interior defense. Thats not even assuming the health of Maniscalco. I am just curious where minutes for Eastman come from.

I like a lineup of:
DSE
A.Warren
T.Brown
W.Egolf
J.Prosser
of course Maniscalco goes in when healthy, Dunson and Lemon get minutes at the guard position, Eastman can spell Taylor at small forward, that is a good rotation of 9 and I still think A.Davis could give us better minutes then A.T. which in turn will get him better prepared down the road.

I believe it is not important in college basketball with a timeout every 4 minutes to have more then 8 or 9 players in a rotation.

I still think our 9 players from DSE to Egolf are quality and there arent minutes available for much more, Eastman seems like an ok player but I just can not see where his minutes would contribute more then the other 9 you listed. But that is why they practice and hopefully the best play the most minutes and earn those minutes with consistant hard nosed play.

upper classmen

upper classmen

IMO I think JL was talking about Milos and Will when he says different agenda from upper classmen! I think it is time for both of these guys to step and make a difference.. Athony IMHO is a bust a wasted schollie he did not show any improvement at all during the scrimmage or the exhibition.. Jake looked pretty bad on defense but did crash the boards.. So who do all you experts think he was talking about?

I do seem to recall JL taking one for the team following many BU losses during his career. The classic "This one's on me" post game conference speach.

I think he is to the point where he isn't going to take it anymore from upper class players who should play better defense and rebound.

I have no problem with his substitutions in an exhibition game. He needs to see if his bigs can play and what they can do before it is primetime. There wasn't a problem with BU's offense in this game, but with defense and rebounding. I am sure he figured at the time these wouldn't suffer by going big.
