ISU

The Pantagraph has a story about ISU and talks somewhat optimistically about ISU's
chances of avoiding a Thursday first round game.

Here is a little of the text, but you have to read the whole thing to get the laugh I did out of it.

"ISU could still avoid first day of MVC tournament"...
NORMAL ???‚¬??? OK, it won???‚¬?„?t be easy and is perhaps unlikely. But Illinois State
could still avoid the first day of the Missouri Valley Conference Basketball Tournament

on March 1 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
The Redbirds (14-14 overall, 5-11 Valley) would earn the No. 6 seed for the tourney,
and a first-round bye, by the following happening this week:
-- ISU defeats Creighton at 7:05 tonight at Redbird Arena;
-- Bradley beats Northern Iowa at Peoria tonight;
-- ISU downs Northern Iowa Saturday at Cedar Falls;
-- The winner of Wednesday???‚¬?„?s Drake-Evansville game loses Saturday.
Evansville is at Southern Illinois, while Drake is at Missouri State."

So it is just that easy...if all those things happen, then ISU would get the #6 seed
and avoid the Thursday games involving seeds #7-10.

Anyone wanna go even money on this??

1) ISU COULD pull off a home upset tonight.
2) Bradley hopefully beats UNI tonight.
3) A reeling UNI COULD lose to ISU Saturday.
4) Drake AND Evansville WILL BOTH LOSE Saturday.

Yea... it's possible.

Honestly, this is not that big of a stretch. The hardest part will probably be ISU winning at Northern Iowa, but I doubt they will beat Creighton at home either. It is their senior night though isn't it?

Here's more motivation for them....

Let's say Mo St loses their last 2, BU gets 3rd by themselves... and if they get the 6 seed...

Heck, after beating us (and storming the court in St Louis), ISU would be playing on Saturday against Creighton in the semi's!

:lol:

Yeah, it might be a stretch for these things to happen, but given the inconsistent play down the stretch by MSU, WSU, UNI, and INSU, I guess anything is possible. Shoot, Drake could even have a shot at the #6 spot when all is said and done. Bradley looks solid as a #4 right now, but our chances of getting to #3 are possible too, although not very likely. Don't ask me what happens if we go 1-1 or worse this week! To enhance our bubble status, we have to win our next 3 and possibly 4 to warrant consideration by the selection committee.

I already thought of that, but was afraid to post it, because my worst fears have a terrible habit of coming true when it comes to the teams I root for.

It really makes no difference whom the Braves face in St. Louis whether we match up well with them or not. Given our tenuous at-large chances, all Bradley needs to do--with apologies to Al Davis--is "just win baby"!!

Nobody should apologize to Al Davis EVER. :lol:

If the miracle of BU getting the 3rd place spot alone, what time do we play Friday in St Louis?

#3 seed vs. #6 seed - Game 6, 8:35 pm

#4 seed vs. #5 seed - Game 4, 2:35 pm

I do believe that would be the dreaded 3-6 8:30 matchup where a tourney winner has never come from. Apologies if I'm mistaken.

It may be the dreaded time slot, but at least I'd be able to go, I gotta work Friday until 5pm. Thanks everybody for the replies and posting the time.

Creighton in 2005 came from the 3 seed. They beat ISU, WSU and SMS for the crown.

Man if we get 3rd alone it would be soooo much easier to make it to the game, and it would look good for our at-large chances!!!
