That means we'd have been playing Bucknell in the Elite 8. I'll take my chances with last year's team vs Bucknell, and with UCLA in the Elite 8. Chalk it up with CCNY using illegal players in reasons why BU doesn't have a national championship!

Would that be possible? Maybe a better question is has this ever been done before (forfeiting a tournament game due to an issue like this)?

I think that Michigan forfeited all of their wins in the Fab 5 era due to something similar. I know BU was credited with 2 more regular season wins over the Wolverines because of this.
 
Also, in 1971, the NCAA Finals MVP was Howard Porter, and his team Villanova finished as the runnerup.

But shortly after the tournament is was revealed that Porter had already hired an agent and was therefore considered a pro and was ineligible during those games.
Thus he had to forfeit his MVP trophy and Villanova was required to forfeit all their NCAA wins, and the previously losing teams were declared the winners. However, even though those teams were thus given the win in those games, the tourney of course would not get replayed and those teams did not have the opportunity to advance.

In fact, to this day, Penn, which lost to Villanova and also lost their undefeated season as a result, still considers that they ended the 1970-71 season undefeated since their only loss to Villanova was nullified.
