If Les is less, then who is more?

Samhan was recruited from only a couple minutes away from St. Mary's, nobody else had heard of him, he was only a 2-Star guy, overweight, slow, and probably overstated at 6-9..kind of a Sam Singh clone in high school...with only Idaho, USF, and St. Mary's and a couple jucos seriously offering...

No doubt that over the FIVE year interval, he has developed nicely, but I can imagine the criticisms and insults if we signed an exact same player right now..
the guy was NOT a solid D-I prospect at the time then...in fact virtually nobody wanted the guy - and yet you're suggesting we go out and sign a similar player....?
St. Mary's won the lottery with him, but let's be realistic...had his name come up in 2005, you and most posters here would have railed at the idea of bringing the guy to BU...

He was also a known quality in the Bay Area and at that St. Mary's also had another big playing for them when they picked him up. Picking up a guy like Samhan is what good recruiting is all about! POB was a great under the radar guy. Recruiting a John Wall type player takes zero talent evaluation skills. I would not say Samhan was a lottery pick but one where they knew with a little effort they would have their diamond in the rough but with a body that could be chisled more then built.

At least St. Mary's took a chance and saw something they could develop in a player...........Samhan's Freshman year was better than ANY of our bigs numbers any of the last 4 years...how's that for a comparison.

Once again, the word for today is --- DEVELOPMENT

I see your point SLB but I think your use of Samhan is probably not the best as far as "development". I'm sure he has developed over his career at St. Mary's but for a freshman to put up his numbers indicates that he was most likely under rated and overlooked, much like POB.

As far as development I would argue that POB was "developed" by Les' staff at a faster rate than Samhan since POB went pro early. Same for Zach Andrews as we was only a Braves for a short time and was "developed" by Les' staff into a pro player.

Les' staff also "developed" Sommerville, Ruffin, Boogie, and others into pro players. All but Cellus were under-appreciated and overlooked as high school players.

Sure, Les' staff has not developed too many centers but, as has been said before, how many Valley teams and mid-majors have. The fact that Les has not had many players "develop" in recent years may be valid, but I am hoping that changes with DSE, JE, TB, WE (all have "developed" under Les) as well as Prosser, MK and others who may develop under Les.
