Huggins wants 2 separate playoffs

I absolutely agree that there should be a split down the line, but only to purge the 100 or so programs that absolutely have no business being in Division I. Maybe make it an even 200 teams and if one wants to drop down on their own, then their spot could be filled by a strong I-AA team.

But what do we do with teams like Morehead St. or Boston University? In some years they could very well be bottom 100 D-I type teams, but occasionally they have great years like they did this year. It's tough to find that breakline, but I agree that there are certain teams that should be dropped immediately. Teams like Chicago St. and Prairie View A&M come to mind.

Conference affiliation will be everything. Teams like Murray St and Belmont in crappy conferences are going to drop as a result. There's no way around that.

If you thought conference realignment was dizzying, wait until you see a split in D-1 basketball. Probably no less than 100 schools would flip conferences in the mad scramble that would follow.

Evidence? The same evidence that said JL talked to prospective coaches for BU?

hardly -- no -- Williams has a lifetime of evidence where he trashes whoever he disagrees with -- he trashed Bradley in 2006 when his team was relegated to the NIT..and yet his team lost to the 32nd seed on their own home court in the NIT while BU beat two ranked teams in making the Sweet Sixteen...
Likewise...the recent incident where he turned and shouted at a fan who had his 5-year old sitting with him...

"Overheard: West Virginia basketball coach Bob Huggins has a novel idea for expanding the NCAA basketball tournament. "We should do what football did," he told us. "We need to make criteria as to what a Division One school is. In terms of support both from the school and from the fan base just like football. … Then you can have a Division 1A playoff and a Division 1 AA playoff.""

With two mid-majors crashing the final four, depriving the big schools of their revenue, I'm actually surprised I haven't heard more talk of this.

yes, this is just one man's suggestion, not a legitimate proposal, but I don't much care for it.

Here's an idea for you, Bob. Stop whining and recruiting thugs and future felons so you can actually compete with these "1-AA" teams. Sour grapes.

You said there was evidence of him talking to perspective NC State coaches! I still have not seen any proof. You put in some links that do not back up your story. T you should work for a political machine. You would give Karl Rove a run for his money. Amazing the way you spin things sometimes. I'm done with this discussion until real proof is put on the table.

I am not spinning nor making any effort to sway your opinion....you are completely free to believe who you want --
but it was YOU who challenged my choice of who I wish to believe---

I know plenty about Williams and know as much as can be gleaned from the evidence available and I have drawn my conclusions......
I am only saying who I believe -- do I not have that right??

You do have the right to your own opinion but you were stating that you had proof and I have not seen any. The only thing I have seen are other people's opinions. Those are two different things. I can change my opinion with facts, imagine that. Any way what if he told a few of his peers that Yow is a complete B^*$h to work for! As stated by a few on this board, the coaching community is very tight and not much happens without others knowing. There are a few that have stated the same about others.

On the Karl Rove thing (it was not an insult), like him or not he is a master at his craft.

:lol: I guess my opinion must be so powerful, though, that just by expressing it I am cited for spinning?

BTW -- you kinda hit on one significant fact earlier in one of your posts...

"It is a very close knit coaching fraternity"

yes -- and I have plenty of evidence that almost everything you can imagine in the college coaching world is already widely known & discussed "behind the scenes" within that fraternity...
there's a wide network of connections and talk travels fast about significant issues..........
with the media knowing little or only much later when it become public....

as I noted elsewhere -- I was told by TWO different people in D-I college basketball -- who are at schools far distant from Peoria -- a lot of the facts as they unfolded in the BU coaching "process"....and everything that I heard came true just as I had heard that it would....
so it is a close fraternity and well informed with almost all "insiders" in that fraternity sticking up for each other and against those who would wish to control coaches and athletic department personnel from outside...
but....using that, I suspect Gary was on the phone talking a bunch and trying to manipulate the NC State process......read the evidence Doyel has noted
