Haussler & Morgan

I drove down for the BU/Pacific game and toured campus a bit, including the Markin Center. The Bradley banners lining the streets are a nice touch! And the Markin Center . . . what can one say?

I was surprised to see Haussler and Morgan Halls still standing. Won't they need to be razed to make way for the new quad back there?

Haussler will, but not until the new athletic arena and mens basketball practice facility are completed. Right now its being used by the athletic teams as a practice location.

As for Morgan, it will not be razed. far too much expensive infrastructure in place to remove it.

Thanks for the info. Isn't Morgan right in the way putting a quad back there, though? If anyone has a link to a campus map that projects out to the new layout, please post. Thx.

Besides the foundry in the basement, what can't be moved in Morgan Hall? I haven't been there in a decade, so maybe they have added some new permanent features.

anything and everything can be moved, for a price. Morgan is the data hub for the entire campus. It wouldn't surprise me to see its infrastructure relocated some day, but it would surprise me if it happened during this campaign. cost/benefit is simply not favorable.

It's possible the offices and facilities currently a part of Morgan could be moved to the new engineering and business convergence center.

Speaking of the covergence center...I could see some really big things coming out that within a few years that it opens. Great idea.

can't find a picture...maybe you'll have luck
didn't have the patience to sit through the video

The Vistors Center (bookstore area) has a nice model of what they're doing...if you're on campus you can stop by.

Morgan does need to go...I hate that building.
BUT they do house a TON of the "hardware" that runs bradley. I think thats where the servers are located. The least they could do was get a new elevator. Anybody who's needed to use it knows what i'm talking about.

when i tore an ACL...i had to walk up 4 flights of stairs because the darn thing wouldn't work....I HATE MORGAN hall...and haussler hall

I have a lot of good memories of Haussler Hall...swimming as a kid...going into the room to look through the window that was underwater....but I hated the rubber floor in the gym...I completely shredded my knee playing bball there...will not be that sad when it gets torn down!

In addition to the servers, and the foundry, there's a one of kind furnace downstairs that is the focus of research of two professors that really is pretty amazing. It works completely on a fan and is far more efficient than any other type of furnace. There are also lots of machining apparatus' that are very expensive to relocate, and there really is no room for them anywhere else right now.

Question about the convergence center...is it going to be an all new building with the look of it being similar to that of Markin and the basketball facility where Jobst and Baker stand now...or is it just going to be an addition to jobst and baker that connects the two current building. I heard it was just going to connect the two and I have to say I was very disappointed. My suspicion tells me otherwise though and that it wouldn't be advertised this much if it wasn't a whole new building. Anyone know the story?

Based on the website it looks like a whole new building, but I just want confirmation.

There is a lot of misinformation out there on the convergence center.

But the plan is indeed to tear both down and rebuild anew.
